Lovely to see them growing wild around the ring of Kerry Rachel. I just cut them back when they stop flowering, the foliage make great compost if you run the lawnmower over them. The flowers are lovely in a nice vase.

Wow. I would be afraid to put the foliage of the likes of Lucifer on the compost that seed might be present.

Hi Rachel i try were possable to make Aerobic compost which helps to kill the weed seeds . it takes more work i know but its worth it . The Berkeley Method is on line if you want to look at it but you might want your hubby to give you a hand. Take care Frank

use a spading fork instead of a shovel/spade at least to loosen up the clump. Also, as one inserts the spading fork, wiggle it about and flood the holes with water. (i use this method to dislodge large, overgrown hostas. ( also use a fine-toothed pruning saw to cut the clump into quarters. )

Monteith is a very invasive weed here in New Zealand, the English brought it with them when they came over so I'm reliably told regularly. But that specimen you have there is beautiful.

I already to this!!!! i compare prices on the items of interest and often find that i can get single-potted, but more mature plants for the same or cheaper price than the item with which i am comparing.

Thank you for your tips. It was a pleasure to watch the film. My crocosmia has got through some really freezing nights this winter and I'm looking forward to it sprouting above the ground soon. It is orange, similar to yours, so perhaps it is Emily McKenzie too. I only took up gardening last year, but I like my plants having their names. Greetings from Poland :-)

That is true although some look on montbretia as invasive since it predominates in the west and south of Ireland. Thanks for watching.

So interesting for me Rachel. I recently got corms Crocosmia and potted them in very large pot of Emily MacKenzie, Lucifer & George Davison ( Yellow) sorry now I included Lucifer as looks like it will take over & spoil the others !! Great video.

It does sound like a soutafrican border of sorts ;) I got some crocosmia from my grandmother as a kid, and it does go invasive here in Costa Rica as well, it's a pretty bloom though.

Thank you very much for your long term support and for such kind words. I must say that I don't really look on the label 'unglamorous' as a negative thing. The intention was to point out that this channel is more about the plants and the information than me looking great. I say this because gardening is not a very glamorous hobby and many people can feel that their reality falls short of what is portrayed in the media. Anyway, thank you for your comment and your consideration of my feelings. Always a nice thing. You can keep on top of them if you devide/thin out regularly - if you leave it too late (as those Lucifers) that's when you are in trouble. Dig them up every 2 or 3 years and gift or throw out the weak onces and replant as many as you want in your space.

I just wanted to ask you how to get my Phalanopsis to re-bloom. Here in Northern California we don’t have humidity at all and the winter temps are 70 F during day and 40 F at night so how do I get this one to bloom

Hi. Your temperatures are too cold for phalaenopsis. They need a minimum of 60F. I assume you are growing them outdoors? You will need to bring them indoors. Very nicely done: but could you always say what the date is so we can know what time of year you're working. The date on the video is August and the plants are in bloom (so sometime in the summer) but making the date clear is extremely helpful.

I will try to remember to put the date 😊 Generally speaking though, my videos are seasonal so the video month is when it's been done. The only exception would be garden visit videos, which can be published a lot later.

Don't agree about Lucifer. I would suggest all crocosmias need to be divided every 3 years if you don't want the congestion you show in your garden. They will flower better and stand up straighter. With the congestion you have I would suggest sawing a cross in the centre, either with a hand saw or a kitchen carving knife, then using two forks back to back in the centre to prize the pieces apart. With any croscosmia I have found that even if you dig up all the clumps there will still be some left in the ground to grow for next year. I've had success just digging them up after flowering, spliting the chains of corms up and just planting the top ones, as the lower ones are spent anyway. Good luck with the progress of the ones you are planting.

Maybe soil is too rich? the soil here in Western Cape, SA very nutrient poor, slightly acidic. Maybe fertilize less?

Use rose tone fertilizer. Mine grow tall in full sun, and others shorter in afternoon shade, all bloom
