CROM PC Carbine Rails and Handguards Overview

After getting the ZhuCROM, I was curious how the other rails CROM offers for the PC Carbine looked like and how they compared to the one I bought. CROM was nice enough to invite me over so I could get a good look at all three of their PC Carbine rails/handguards, and compare them side by side with both Ruger factory options! Maybe if I'm lucky, I can get all of them together in the future and get shooting/use impressions.

The pc9 is my favorite onento shoot out of all my rifles but the weight is completely unnecessary. Who thought it was a good idea to make the rifle 5x heavier than it needs to be.

I know what your saying about weight but from my experience it’s usually a tell tale sign of quality. I’d take a little extra weight if it means a higher quality firearm.

Great Video and great info on all the handguard. I was on Ruger site and couldn't find the takedown block and barrel. Did you order it through the phone?

I didn't order any spare ones unfortunately. All the barrel assemblies in this video came from complete PCCs.

I'm interested in seeing the low and high rise handguard being handled and shot. I live in CA so I can't use a supressor and am mainly trying to decide based on the aesthetics of each.

I purchased a low-rise rail recently and am just waiting for the next batch to be manufactured to get it. I'll get some use footage of it when it comes in. I can tell you that the low-rise rail will handle quite differently from the high-rise. It feels way lighter!

Question: do any of these for the original Gen 1 PC9? Rugers Gen 2 tactical hand guard won't fit the Gen 1 they say so I'm trying to find one that will. Crom didn't reply to my email asking if the low ride came with the needed block for the barrel.

I have the PC Carbine Chassis model and Ruger customer service and parts departments *REFUSE* to sell me the mounting block for the "standard" forend model. I'd love to hear how you managed to get them to sell you one. Otherwise, great video! I appreciate you taking the time to put this together because the CROM website is a bit lacking in fitment details. Kudos!

I didn't buy a different barrel mounting/latch block from Ruger, but CROM said they have. They also mentioned it wasn't exactly the easiest thing, but they convinced a CS rep to sell it to them (as an end user, not a company).

Based on your comment, I was reluctant to call Ruger. I called anyway. I gave them the model number for the basic PC and told them which parts I needed. Very nice CS rep. Sent me a tracking number the following morning. Parts arrived 5 days later (4/5/21). I'd love to hear what you said to make them refuse to sell you the parts.

@@88pioneer1 To be completely honest I'd like to know too, I have no idea what I said or even how I said it that might have been off color. I just called and explained what I was trying to do and the CS rep flatly said "We won't sell you replacement parts that didn't originally come with your gun." I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or what. Ruger has always been good to me, I've owned many of their products and always found them to be satisfactory. On the off chance I've had to deal with their CS it's been super easy, other than the one time. Maybe I'll give it another try. Thanks for the update though! 😎👍

So for the sling options, does the free floating handguard that ruger makes have any options built in or do you need to attach via mlok?

Ruger's rail doesn't have any sling mounts so you need to buy an MLOK one and attach it to their rail.

It's possible since I think they're starting to make things for the charger. The mounting blocks under the barrel are pretty different from the original plastic handguard version.

I asked CROM about that! They said they'd like to, but the charger has a different shaped block where the takedown mechanism is so they'd have to design a new solution for that. So probably not soon.

If the MI chassis ends where the receiver does in front (so the QD barrel can still be removed) then it should work.

Are the Crom free floating barrel

They're mostly free-floating. The CROM Low and High-rise rails bolt to the rear sight mount and barrel/takedown mounting block, so forward of the rear sight mount they're free floating. You can consider these free-floating rails. The CROM ZhuCROM handguard has a clamp that goes around the barrel mid way down the barrel (that's where the scout rail mounts to), so it's less free floating.

All of those barrels were from complete carbines. CROM does have some handguards for the charger too, but you'll have to ask them which ones.

I purchased a handguard from Crom. No instructions on how to mount. Requested information on the handguard I purchased. Never heard from them. Maybe you can mention that their customer service is disappointing. Just my opinion.

They may have temporarily taken them down till they catch up on orders instead of having people order them and taking a long time. They did similarly with chassis last month.
