I backed Elizabeth Warren in the primaries, and the saddest part for me when she withdrew was when she said, “I’m so sorry for all the young women and little girls I met during the campaign, to whom I promised we would see a woman in a position of leadership in the White House. I guess we’ll have to wait a little bit longer.” I watched Harris’ speech with my two young daughters, and thinking about Warren’s words made me choke up. Harris may not be president, but in the end we DIDN’T have to wait longer to see a woman in the White House.

Sadly, people like Warren will more than likely have little influence on federal politics with corporate centrist like Biden in charge and GOP controlling the Senate. Biden seems more interested in filling his cabinet with right leaning repubs, liertarians, centrist, lobbyist, wallstreeters and war mongerers like Dick Cheney, while at same time having little nice to say about progressives, progresive movement and folks left/far left of Biden.

I'm in Korea and I remember waking up around 3 am, during the counting before it was called, and seeing Joe Biden in casual dress speaking about the process and his optimism for victory. The thought that went through my mind was, "Grandpa's home. The bad man won' t hurt you any more." But seriously, I felt safe and cared for for the first time in four years. And regarding Kamala Harris' speech. My mother is someone who was skeptical of her as a VP, but even she was moved and said it was a "great speech." Indeed, the bad man is fading away and we should just look forward to an era of good, compassionate and competent government.

I think you're ignoring the fact that many of the counties that gave Biden a victory were very close and are under attack. The election isn't over for Trump's supporters. I understand that everyone needs to believe this is real but I'm going to need something real before I can relax. Someone commented that a glitch in one Michigan county had been cured and the 3000 vote Biden lead was flipped to a 2500 Trump lead. Yes, it would take 50 other counties to flip the lead in Michigan but in Georgia and other states it wouldn't take much at all to give Trump the lead. We need to stay focused until the election is confirmed in December. This is too important to dance in the one yard line and that's exactly what I'm seeing.

Born in California, been living in Puerto Rico nearly 45 years. What Puerto Rico needs is Independence, not Statehood. We are a latin/Caribbean country with a unique culture. We are also an island 90 miles long and 45 miles wide. At that size we would be sliced and diced into vacation homes for the wealthy who would love to buy a piece of a Caribbean US State, but who are leery of trying to live in a foreign Latin nation. I spent a year and a half in Hawaii, and I saw what the US has done to that former Pacific tropical nation. Yes, Hawaii had its own culture and language for thousands of years. It was very unique. There was no concept of land ownership. The land was revered and living on it was considered a privilege. One's duty was to care for nature and respect it. Then the Dole family decided they wanted to make a lot of money raising pineapples, and convinced the US government to back them up. The Hawaiian leaders were oppressed and imprisoned, and their land confiscated. Their culture was almost totally annihilated, and their language was nearly destroyed. Land prices there now are so high that the remaining native people are forced to live in marginal conditions and most of them have moved to the US mainland. In 1898 the US decided it wanted a coaling station for ships on the way to Panama. Puerto Rico had a good harbor, and abundant natural resources. It was a logical spot to make money by a massive land grab and solved the coaling problem. Puerto Rico, like Hawaii, was invaded by the US military, and seized. It didn't matter that Spain, the former Colonial power, had finally granted Puerto Rico its independence less than two years before. Puerto Rico became a Colony again. Now the people of Puerto Rico, who were forced to accept US citizenship, have been programmed to fear independence. There are rumors that under independence Social Security payments would be confiscated by the Independence Government. The education system has never been allowed or funded to grow properly. English is mandatory in a fully Spanish speaking country. The abuses of land ownership and profiteering on all levels has been staggering. Everything in Puerto Rico is around 40% more expensive than necessary because all imports are forced to be transferred to US flagged vessels in US ports before being shipped on to Puerto Rico. That abuse is a huge cash windfall for US shipping companies. With that extra money alone available to Puerto Rico, independence becomes viable. Thus far Puerto Rico has clung to an intermediate status, Commonwealth, which is halfway between Statehood and Independence. It is hard for many here to realize, but Statehood would be a disaster. It would spell the death of Puerto Rican Culture.

@@dickdomain719 I agree. The results aren't official until certified by Congress in December. Being called president-elect is a really more of a norm in a country where being called one after election night is primarily about investing legitimacy in the eventual peaceful transfer of power. It's so that the public gets used to the changes coming. Not gonna get into the GSA formalities but that's the primary goal - legitimacy. But the numbers just aren't there for Trump to catch up in the states where he needs to catch up. Every day Biden's lead increases in WI, PA, MI, and GA. Look, I felt the same when Hillary lost and could've easily demanded recount after recount and court filing after court filing, but the numbers just weren't there for her either. So she lost. And Trump was deemed president-elect by the media that night and the public even before Congress made it official. Regardless of what the "not my president" protesters said then. And with smaller margins than Biden now. Trump won MI, WI, PA by around 70,000. Biden's winning them by 160,000 and counting. But Trump legitimately got the votes to reach 270, so has Biden now. Now we need two things: BOTH Georgian Senate seats AND a tough as nails new Attorney General who will investigate and dispense justice for the criminal activity of the Trump era. Let's retire the number 45, remove it from sports and building floors. Let 45 become the new "13".

Yeah, probably a good idea to keep a low profile for a day or two. I've been looking at local news stories in red states and they're talking about violence a lot in the comments. Hopefully it's just talk but there's a lot of toxicity flowing through Trump's supporters.
