Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the favorite DRC are the destinations for alot of these stolen cars. Here in Zambia in 2014, the Zambia police flying squad received a tip off and intercepted a truck with a container that had a Mercedes-Benz V class inside it. Stolen from South Africa. The truck was intercepted just outside Lusaka and the destination was Congo. How it crossed 2 countries and ended up here was anyone's guess.

Amazingly the police and soldiers are involved. We are not protected in South Africa.

This is very painful. It was in 2020 when my bakie was taken out of the shopping center in Pretoria north. My son's opened the case by Pretoria north police station. After 3 days somebody called and said they've found our bakie at komatiepoort but we must pay R3500.00. We never heared even a single word from our police till today. It shows that the criminals get the information from dirty cops. Our country is gone.

This has happened to me. You never get over it. Those 50 people suffer trauma forever and no amount of counselling stops the fear.

I guess the new SANDF doesn’t patrol out border line as affectively as the army used to. Wonder why? Follow the money , I’m sure you will find some interesting answers who all is involved . Very sad days to live in on this country . Something is very fishy .

You need to get a deep trench all the way at about 3 m wide and 2 m deep and more patrols bring in the Army if you need to .

Possible Solutions: 1. Owners of expensive vehicles should have trackers fitted plus have an arrangement with tracker companies to have the vehicles parked by 18h00 and any any anamolous movement after this time should automatically trigger a search. 2. We must install double or tripple electric fences and include electricity cost in the tarrifs we charge the Mozambique govt for elctricity . 3. Use spies to infiltrate these syndicates. 4. There should be a single road 10 km from the border connecting the road network and it should operate as an additional border gate , fully fitted with cameras so that all occupants of a each vehicle , police attending to it and the vehicle itself can be easily identified, and all occupants should be finger printed .

Cheaper cars get hi Jacked for parts and to commit crimes. I believe car theft is like a serious motor vehicle accident, just because it happens it doesn't mean it's going to happen to you. There are people who've owned cars for more than 30 and have never been hi jacked or been involved in an accident
