Just watched this start to end, I now have a great appreciation for you and what you've designed/built. It is exactly what I have dreamed of since I was a kid when I made my first go kart from a northern tool & equipment plan, a mower & snowblower donors and a stack of 1" square steel tubing

Morning Kyle. I take everything you say to heart. I am using a Kawasaki zx6r engine for mine . I would have preferred finding a 525 so I could have reverse but every one I have found has been $4,000+. I AM going to make it street legal as I will likely not trail ride as much as most. I am 69 do , hopefully,I can restrain myself enough to not get into trouble before I fully learn the handling characteristics. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into these carts. This is what sold me on you and your product. Demon

Well I mean everything I say. Zx6r will be a fine engine for sure, don’t get me wrong I love the yzf600r, But there has to be a favorite. I was very patient with my 525 search, it took me 18 months to find that donor. If I were your age with a lifetime of experience and wisdom I may feel differently about driving on the streets… I think it’s awesome that you know yourself well enough to make have your own opinion. Thank you for the comment and for your insight, it is always nice seeing a comment from you. Kyle

I have to add the fact that the young gentleman had a horrific incident with a previous buggy he built and there are videos he posted covering that whole crash and hospitalisation ordeal these karts are a blast but please use common since when operating them i love to see how this crosskart trend is growing so rapidly and guys like KJ are making it much more attainable for DIY builders side by sides are too expensive and for the money do not compare with the crosskarts in terms of an exhilarating driving experience

I’m guessing you’re talking about Vasily? I completely agree. I was very surprised at the speeds and locations used for his shakedown run, especially after his accident and medical dramas. Certainly not criticising his work as it looks like the quality of his fabrication and engineering has moved forward in leaps and bounds. I’m a 47yo revhead who spent 3 months in hospital after a dog ran out to attack me while cranked over through a turn on the bitumen on my KTM 500 exc. I got more busted up that could’ve thought possible and yet survived-even after being restarted on 3 separate occasions. I cannot possibly apologise enough to my wife and kids for what I put them through, and I certainly won’t do it again. I’ve watched your work with keen interest since the start and I’m looking at doing something similar but using something like a used CF Moto side by side to provide suspension diff, brakes and steering. The Polaris Outlaw looks like a fantastic donor vehicle but they are not cheap here in sunny Australia. Thanks for your fantastic work! I’m amazed with the buggies you’ve built and the service you offer for others looking to replicate your awesome work.

Thank you Brian. I was unsure how that would be taken by everyone. I’m not judging him, I just know that I would probably do the same thing if my crosskarts had tags on them… I guess it could depend on where you live too, if I were a little further north where there isn’t much traffic who knows.

@@KJRaycing No, hey its a free country, I agree. (I saw the video too, scary). But for me personally, like you said, I cherish my health and well-being too much these days to do that stuff any more. And we have kids and responsibilities to think about above and beyond thrill seeking. The funny thing is though, I have no desire to drive fast, etc any more. Maybe I got it all out of my system in my younger days. Here's proof; I build custom bobber / hardtail conversions of older bikes every so often... and I don't even ride anymore. WAY too dangerous. I get more pleasure out of building than riding. Anyway thanks again for all the insight. 👍🙏 Now put a Busa engine in that thing man!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I really hope these new kids listen to you... The fun is in the riding and not spending money working on ones kart do to "mine is faster than you're Kart." I worked in the broadcast and communications industry along with Fabrication/welding and for fun, Drag racing on a budget along with Rc and Experimental Light weight Aircraft like the Rans S-12 Air-Rail. Between contracting as a E.E in Transmitter sites and My C.R.S. station, I kept very busy. You guys out there listen to this fine person that spent his time trying to save a whole SH*% Load of head aches... Then again go ahead and let the smokes out of all your devices, but I warn you., Its a real Bast@#D to put the smoke back in so It behaves. Outstanding job Kyle. Wish I could have been there to see your CFI ripping your shirt off on your first solo. My CFI was an old guy in the Salt Lake City area. Gee I think I received my single engine in 1983. First and last time I went up with him in July 103Deg Temp in a 150 and he weight 300Lb and the fence was way too close upon rotate, He falls asleep and the left rear wheel chattered like it was going to fall off. I told him I will pay the extra for each Hr for a 174. He had a 1960 wood wing Moony with Vera pitch and the tiny step up even retracted. Its as far as I check-rite and my IFR rating is (I Fly Roads) Moony was 90 stall, a bit too fast for me so I let him read off so I could pay att to the Two reds and Two whites at 3 on I.L.S. Thank you for a fine video and I hope your fan base listens to. Very best wishes, De Dave 73 N7UWQ A.R. .._ _ .. P.S. Awesome video as always...And yes I totally agree...ATV engines are powerful enough. Yeah, it's cool to brag about the engine...like any other vehicle like your truck, off-road vehicle, ATV, Etc... But talking about and actually doing are two separate things. Having fun and being safe is the best reward because it enables you to do it again and again. you're one of the coolest man. having fun while keep the safety in priority. really want to build one so bad for myself. it looks cool, the proportion and the model, like a real cross kart from the factory. but i think it would be hard to do. i live in southeast asia where we get low salary. i get 300-350$ a month for full time job. i only have a 150cc water cooled engine with 6 speed, and i think it has around 12 or 14 HP, that i think it's not enough to move that thing. may i ask you to build the smaller one so i can save some money to build it, speend the money for the suspension or the accessories, i need the references. i got my dad, and brother, the can do weld and bending pipes. been following your channel for 2 months i think, your cross kart is one of the coolest on KZbin. eh, sorry for my bad english, i don't speak english and i live in Indonesia, and still having hard time learning more..🥺

You can still use 1.25 DOM on the A-arms, and just reduce the ends down for the smaller hiem joint. So they are less likely to bend, and if they break, you can just replace the hiem joint and keep going, (maybe).

You would be more protected in one of those than you are on a motorcycle. I have an FJ1200 I bought in 1989 brand new when I was about to turn 21, I put 26,000 miles on it (still have it, almost in perfect condition) I haven't rode it since 2009. My banker tried to talk me out of buying it telling me that the average time of ownership was 6 months before the bike was trashed in an accident. You should always drive with safety in mind but don't go through life being afraid. You can end up dead driving an SUV too.

@KJRaycing

Well there is a reason it’s less, same reason stuff from China is cheaper… in all honesty I would use ERW on something that would never see over 35mph. DOM is the required material for race cars, so if you’re building a race car… 😁. I wish you the best with everything.

The budget build uses the same exact chassis as the non-budget machines. I was just showing a different way it could be built on a budget. That is a valid point, I do get asked that from time to time. The plans are not metric but they have been converted by several people to get their builds going. I was going to do a full metric set of plans but I would have to rebuild the entire kart in my program to do it. Then I would have to build one to make sure they were accurate (it’s kind of how I do things). The guys that sat down and penned the conversion said it didn’t really take that long and was easy. funny thing when i saw that kid crossing the double yellows i commented imiediatly I said you wonder why the dept. of motor vehicles makes it difficult to legalize a home built essentially race buggy is because they suspect you will drive dangerously i also said my daughters could have been coming around that corner and met you head on so please don't make it seem cool to be on the street driving like that. thank you for also pointing that out

I wasn’t trying to come down on him, it literally made me realize that driving these on the street should not be a goal. However I’m actually considered making my 20hp “budget kart” street legal… 60 mpg would make a pretty fun commuter and it would be hard to drive it recklessly. Thank you for the comments 👍

One question that wasn't answered. Do you offer to build a custom crosskart (two seater) in this case? If I give you the goals of the build. And you give the price to make it happen?

I answered this in the first 30 seconds of the video… I really wish I could but I’m not a KZbin-er looking for fame and fortune. Just trying to help motivated guys who have always wanted to do something like this. My family and my career are my priorities. The hardest part is to start my friend, you can do this 🤜🤛.

@@KJRaycing I heard that part lol. I just didn't know if you enjoyed it enough to make one for others. But I hear ya 100%. The two seater crosskart is for me and my daughter to enjoy. We have a couple of gokarts but wanted to share it together. Can't wait for the final plans to be done and start tackling it.

That’s what levels are for, bud. Make a flat surface for the jig and everything will be square. Always looking for reasons something can’t be done means you’ll never get it done. My garage floor isn’t completely level by the way…

I don't think you should avoid making it street legal just because it's fast. Have a little faith in your ability to stay disciplined enough not to drive impulsively. It's no different than ridding a sports bike on the road. It's not that hard once you have recognized and are conscious of it, so you're already half way there. Most of us scolded Vasilly pretty heavily in his comments; I think he understands that he was being excited and foolish. It's easy to relate to, He's actually very young, so it's not unexpected. You should definitely make one street legal..

I’m just saying I would probably do the same thing. It would be amazing to have a long stretch of curvy roads… and what else would you do with it? I’ve had my share of motorcycles and also did not follow the laws to a T. It all comes down to that I personally have too much to lose. No judgement from me for anyone that does make it street legal. Being life flighted with a three month old daughter at home gives you a perspective most don’t have. That was over ten years ago and his video reminded me of what is most important to me. Stay safe out there whatever you do 🤜🤛.

@@KJRaycing I've certainly had my share of offroad crashes and broken bones. lol; and I rode a naked 99 CBR900 for several years and burned through a rear tire every year, and I never do burnouts; that's just how hard I was always on the throttle. I'd still like to see you cruise a 2 seater buggy on the road; T-Rex style.

So if I've got 0 fabrication experience, and know nothing about engines or mechanics, am I wasting my time dreaming about owning a crosskart??

You have to start somewhere. Get the tools and start tinkering. And safely practice to hone your skills. Guys with zero fabrication experience have built these. Best to you 👍
