Crossroads moment in my expat journey

Change is inevitable and the trick is to be in control of this change rather than reactive. Schooling and University as my kids start to prepare for adulthood means a decision needs to be made as an expat in Thailand.

Greetings from the UK. Dan, the international schools in Thailand, if you can afford it, are first class and much better than most if not all UK schools to the extent that I am considering moving from the UK to Thailand for my son for A levels. UK universities are expensive international or not but the cost savings you would achieve by being in the UK prior would be outweighed by moving costs, rent or stamp duty and taxes are high if you are employed. Ultimately when the kids are older they will go there own way but it could be anywhere, Harvard, Australia, Cambridge or even Bangkok. Good luck with whatever path you decide.

We live in the USA. I have two girls 10 and 14. My wife is Thai. Last year we bought a small house in Jomtien. I'm toying with the idea of moving to Thailand and maybe sending the girls to school over there. International school is SO expensive. Regents would be around $40,000 and Tara Pattana seems would be a little cheaper at around $30,000. I don't know of other international options near Pattaya. Since our kids hold dual citizenship, we could send them to a local school. I don't think I would do this. I know there are some private schools that are somewhere in the lower cost, but probably not too good. They are also not accredited. Since we officially reside in the US, I can do online school through our local school district. I'm going to try out the online option this year. We will come to Thailand sometime in September or October and probably stay through April or May. With the online option, I am worrying about socializing the girls and them finding friends. If we did move totally to Thailand and they finished school there, we would have a similar issue in that they would be subject to international tuition back home for University. However, at least in the US as long as they moved back to a State in the US and stayed a year they would then again be eligible for the MUCH, MUCH cheaper in state tuition. Still wondering what to do...

A thought, massive shortage trades men in UK, all trades,, I have a friend who is a Orthopaedic surgeon, after many years on crap junior doctor hours and wages massive university debts he now doing ok but 40 percent tax sucks, would I swap my hand board and trowel self employed life for his scalpel , no thank you

Could the basis of this thought be driven by the fact you are going to have to pay tax this year as per your previous vlog highlighted.

I fully pay tax already as I work here, so no change for me in that regards

@@DanAboutThailand Perhaps you can advise me about the new tax laws this year, am I rite in thinking I will fill out the form next year for this year's tax. After obtaining a tax ID.
