There really isn't anything quite like rhubarb that I can compare it to. It's unique in it's own way. It's got a tangy taste to it but in a good way. It's one of those things that you either love it or hate it. I LOVE it and am glad my grandma got me hooked on it! It's really an older folks thing as most young'ns haven't a clue to what it even is.

Thank you very much for your recipe -- especially for the topping! I've been looking for a topping that I like -- one that is nice and crisp, and this is exactly what I wanted. I believe that melting the butter is what makes the difference. Thank you!

I was debating doing the crisp, cobbler or crumble topping. I don't like cobbler tops (basically biscuit dough dropped on top). The flour and brown sugar topping (technically a crisp but many call cobbler) is my chosen topping but I had oats and decided to use them (which makes it a British 'crumble' but is what the US knows as a crisp). I researched this debate a long time and that's the best I can come up with as far as differences, LOL!!

I LOVE rhubarb too! This is absolutely divine! I was debating even doing this video since a lot of people don't like it (more so because they've never had it). I can see where people would be scared of it, LOL!!

I've noticed rhubarb was very much a thing with older folks. My grandma got me hooked on it when I was a kid and I absolutely love the stuff. It's really getting hard to find because no one eats it anymore.

Give it a try! It's becoming very hard to find because it's an older generation thing. I love the stuff though because of my grandma!

One of my favorites, your topping is different though will have to try it. Love strawberry rhubarb pie. I have made it, with frozen crust though, lol. My wife makes her own crust. But there is a stall at the local farmers market that sells it, and it is better than either one of ours, lol and it is sugarfree. I appreciate your videos myself, always great ideas.

Mom heaped cut raw rhubarb into a pie shell. Then she beat two eggs with a cup of sugar, poured it over, and baked it I believe at 350 degrees for a half hour or so. Best rhubarb custard pie ever. You can also make your dessert with a dry cake mix blended with butter on top. We called it a cobbler.

For all those asking what rhubarb tastes like, it's very tart but also sweet, and is almost always paired with another fruit when used in a dessert. The stems look like celery but don't grow in a tight bundle. Each stalk has a big leaf like elephant ears plants and they grow away from each other, splayed out from the growing point. When I was little everyone grew a clump because it was cheap fruit you could grow yourself and save money. As kids we girls would play with a stem and leaf pretending it was a sunshade like a parasol. We also took a stem and a cup of sugar and dipped the stem into the sugar and ate it raw, but the sugar was pretty much necessary because it is a tart item. Everybody in those days - fifty and sixty years ago - used rhubarb to make pies and every other baked dessert such as crisps and crumbles and cobblers, as well as flavouring muffins and cakes much as people do now with blueberries and cranberries. The leaf is not edible by the way. Perhaps it's a food that takes a while for someone to get used to, or that people get used to by growing up having it to eat occasionally, but it's cheap as can be and makes the expensive stuff go further when times are hard. Which is why the old folks used it no doubt, through economic Depression and wars.

LOLOL I swear I could lick the screen LOLOL Only one problem, I have no idea what rhubarb is, or what it taste like. You make the most incredible deserts, so I know that it's got to be good, but can you tell me anything I can compare rhubarb with? This has got to be good, cause there is nothing better than strawberries, no matter what you do with them.

I've heard of rhubarb but have never tried it. I don't even see it in our grocery stores. I'm assuming it's sweet lol? It looks delish but of course I would have skipped the icecream and topped mine with pork n beans lol.

Thanks. It's not anything like celery. I mean it looks like red celery but the taste and texture isn't anything like it.

This might sound dumb but isnt a certain part of rhubarb toxic.? If not please tell me.
@ashleyhughes72374 жыл бұрын
it's the leaves you avoid red stalk is great for desserts
@croutoncrackerjacks11 жыл бұрын
The only part that is edible is the stems. The leaves and roots contain oxalic acid which is toxic.
