Unfortunately I saw the multiple sclerosis nurse during the week and my multiple sclerosis has advanced even further - I’ve got the hospice team consultants coming in on Thursday to discuss pain management with me. I’m staying positive as usual - but as you know you both brighten up my Sunday evenings ~ nearly an hour to watch as well absolutely brilliant - I hope you have a great week. There is a great story from an American soldier that defines how much the Brits love their tea. On D day on the Normandy invasion, these 2 Americans and 2 Brits survived the assault to the shore. The water was full of blood since most soldiers did not make it. It was a miracle to be alive and on the shore. The next step was to climb the cliff. The Americans get ready when suddenly they see the 2 Brits sitting down on the shore building a fire. The Americans say "what the hell are you guys doing'? The Brits say "we're having a cup of tea" The Americans said there is not time for a cup of tea, lets go. The American said these British guys were the most fearless soldiers he ever saw and they wanted to celebrate their survival with a cup of tea.

I've done 2 transatlantic cruises, both were on Royal Caribbean ships entering the US for the first time. Went with my dad both times. I was in my late 30s, he was close to 70. Enjoyed the pace very much. I was one of the younger cruisers and it was fun taking older style dance classes and doing trivia. I loved the slower pace. My dad read a LOT. (He always read a LOT.) He's gone now. I wouldn't do this cruise now.

I did the Queen Mary Transatlantic Crossing New York to Southampton and absolutely loved it. I get terrible motion sickness and was surprised that I was unaffected totally on the transatlantic cruise perhaps going east is an easier crossing. Also, I went in the summer. I tell all my friends to do a transatlantic cruise on the Queen Mary because you can’t even feel the ship. I got in trouble one evening when I said, wouldn’t it be nice if we had a storm and then we could feel the ship moving the whole table looked at me like I was nuts. It would be neat to see an iceberg but we never did and no one else at my table was looking forward to seeing one. I especially liked the planetarium and the entertainment that we had was fantastic. I am looking forward to doing it again. Thank you for your. They are always so entertaining. You are the best.

I was on the Queen Mary a few years ago during the winter, and it did sail through the edge of a storm because we couldn’t sell any further south , ship handled it well but about a fourth of the people or more didn’t show up for breakfast. Did the return trip in 2009 as a first cruise. The person I went with hated flying. Only in NYC for 6 hrs! Both of us wanted photos from Empire State so I went up alone, visited Time Square, Toys R US and Maceys as we both had grandchildren to buy for. We went nearly the same week as you had a phenomenal sunrise which you can't buy, I ate Sushi for the first time. I loved the library and at that time it was the best place to do email. Lots of small memories and watching you two is bringing back more. Thanks and hope you enjoy your week's away.

Regarding the comments on the baffling layout -- Gary of the Tips for Travelors channel has posted he has trouble finding his way around, and he's done a dozen crossings! As for the poor condition, I think Carnival (which owns Cunard) are letting this ship down. Do they think it's OK if everything they own comes down to the level of a budget Carnival ship? I was especially sad that the planetarium was down -- that was once a big point of pride for them. Queen Mary probably needs an extended dry dock, but that would take it out of service and cost them too much.
@LynnHypno7 ай бұрын
I think now Queen Anne is in service she will have a refit. QA is doing the world cruises next year so I suspect she’ll be in dry dock
@chuckoneill20237 ай бұрын
@@LynnHypno Per the cruise critic site, she was in dry dock for about a month, just last year! My guess is, they were concentrated on the mechanics -- which are obviously important -- but not the interior or amenities. I don't see her scheduled for any downtime for the next couple of years, at least (cruises through 2026 can be seen and booked on any number of cruise sites).

@@chuckoneill2023 she had new carpets and a few cosmetic upgrades so I would think by next year she’ll be due a bit more! I think removing the gratuity on the Cunard ships happens more often than you might realise but it’s not always because the service isn’t good. I went with a large group who regularly cruise and we all removed the gratuity so that we could tip those who are working for us rather than everyone on the ship. When we spoke to the stewardess and staff they said that they prefer this because they are getting rewarded when they do a good job.
@alexblaney63227 ай бұрын
Yes this is my thoughts too , Cunard regulars especially those leaving from uk don’t like gratuity automatically added I have a group of friends who only cruise Cunard and always remove gratuities .

Really appreciate the elements you've added to this video (David and the Flame of France) as well as a brief mention of special speakers (Ben). As one watches you stroll about the ship, it's so interesting how the "atmosphere" of the ship is transmitted through the video - it seems so quiet and reserved, not much in the way of crowds (other than meals, of course). It's easy to appreciate the aura of a trans-Atlantic cruise. Of ALL the videos you've done, I must say this one could maybe persuade me to give a trans-Atlantic cruise a "look-see".

Transatlantics have always been my favorite cruises. I love sea days. I've used Princess, Celebrity and Viking. And all of them were great. One of my Princess cruises from Venice to New York included a hurricane, with 100 mph winds and 50 foot waves that took out ten windows on the Promenade deck.. That was a voyage rather than a cruise. The food and service on all of them were fantastic, and there was never a problem getting a seat at any of them. Thanks for your great videos of your experiences. Very eye opening. I always wanted to try Cunard, but not so much any more. I think for me Celebrity was the best. It had a big ship experience without feeling crowded. I love bridge on long cruises, and the card room on Celebrity was on one of the balconies in the 14 floor Atrium, giving one lots to look at when you were the "dummy" hand. Always enjoy your videos.

I love history and I have always been a Titanic buff, so the Queen Mary 2 just seems the best way to experience something similar. Y'all said something smart about transatlantic cruising is easier on your body because the jet lag isn't so instantaneous or severe. I like that the high tea service allows you to choose what you want as opposed to setting a tiered tray full of offerings on every table. I imagine they have far less wasted food when they allow cruisers to choose.

Maybe they can use the bread to make croutons

@@enjoystraveling Perhaps but, the less food waste I was thinking of was all the uneaten sandwiches and cakes left on those tiered trays. I believe once food is served, it can't be repurposed.
@enjoystraveling7 ай бұрын
@@Lovesapuzzle how do you know the sandwiches will be un eaten? Last time I was there people had a pretty healthy appetite. What would you recommend they do instead not have a tea at all?
@Lovesapuzzle7 ай бұрын
@@enjoystraveling I'm assuming that not every table eats everything on their preset tiered tray. Not everyone likes everything. Not everyone wants 4 sandwiches and 4 cakes a few hour before dinner service. As I said in my original post. I like the way the Queen Mary serves high tea. They allow each guest to chose what and how much they want. I'm curious. Did you even read my original post?

We also watched TITANIC on our transatlantic cruise. It was the sea day before we arrived in Halifax (I believe we were crossing the approximate area where the Titanic sunk).

This cruise looks awesome! My parents sailed from Belfast to NY in 1947 on the Queen Mary. Certainly not upper class.They had a 6 week old infant and were sea sick most of the way passing her from bottom to top bunks.

14:02 I’d think that I’d go for one of those gorgeous teddy bears to add to my collection in that shop - I’d pay their ransom to give one of them a loving home 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤

It's fitting that two of the classiest travelers take the classiest voyage here to America. Welcome to the US.

I love Hobb Nobbs. We can get them in grocery stores all over Massachusetts USA. Also Digestives. I love that I can have treats I loved when I traveled to London.

You guys are my favorite cruise-tubers, and I watch everyone. Keep up the brilliant content. Disappointing to hear the service issues on this iconic line, hope they get the message and step it up on their new ship.

As we are considering a transatlantic on the Queen Mary 2 your commentary has been extremely helpful. My concerns rest mainly with activities during the day. They appear somewhat limited, not similar to other sailings we have been on. I see this cruise as perhaps a one time experience. We would embark in NYC and travel east. Again thank you for your thoughts.

It’s not a party ship thankfully and suits me just fine. I especially enjoyed just checking out a book and reading it while sitting in the lounge chair outside with a latte on the table by the side and also enjoyed the lectures really good ones about oceanography and astronomy.

I found my sailing very relaxing and sometimes I would be just walking and spontaneously. came across two or three women playing the cello.
