Watching again and thinking the same thing. What makes Alice's terror of the transformation much more frightening is her insight; her master is the one who told her about Elias, in fact her first run in with him he seemed so cordial and to the point.. and then.. Chise takes the impact meant for her... And she witnesses the beast beneath, the storm the calm heralded. Her fear.. her seeing the 'Unknown' slowly transforming before her... the unknown is now known to her... and the terror on her face... speaks volumes upon volumes.

Throughout history it has been proven that humanities primal instinct to fear the unknown is both necessary but dangerous to our own lives. Humankind believes it is the dominant species. But that belief only comes from our ability to survive and the skills our species has grown to develop. In truth humanity will never be able to conquer the natural world. Although I am still puzzled as to what Elias is I have doubts about him being a wendigo. He does not have insatiable hunger or cannibalistic tendencies. So what is he.

Gentle is an aspect of feminine, so i would agree. A feminine woman is smart and wise, and slow to speak and meek, so if she is mad the situation is well analyzed and its 100% probably not wrong for her to be angry, so fear would not be wrongly placed, but a masculine women the opposite, she must fear herself, but no one else should fear her.

One of my favorite moments for Elias: 1:23 That silent "exhale" just made it that much more creepy. Normally you would think he would scream, screech, yell, yelp, cry. But instead, a silent exhale with so much vapor/steam coming out from his mouth it's visible while no1 else's breath is. Then he starts his transformation...

I think Elias really loved Chise from an early stage, but he's so out of touch with his own emotions that he doesn't know how to express it. But when you see how much it affects him when someone hurts her, it's pretty hard to deny.

He's half human half fairy but he's an amalgamation of a creation using magic. He fully doesnt know or understand some things. Or hasnt grasped it. He hasn't learned a lot on the human side of things as nobody was able to be that close to him or became that close to his heart until Chise came into his life. They're both figuring things out with both self and in life as Chise is also out of touch of socializing due to her background.

I posted this on a similar video, but knowing KZbin this comment may last longer here. I love this anime, and this scene struck a deep, unknown fear in me, for all the right reasons. When H. P. Lovecraft described something as Eldritch, the word itself originally meant "fae", which to the people of the United Kingdom, was a very old version of considering something alien. In this beautiful series we are introduced to many creatures. Some draconic, some demonic, some divine, and some fae. And yet, Elias isn't quite any of it, or human for that matter. He does have some aspects of human and Faerie in him. If you want a textbook example of what it an Eldritch abomination, something a little more down to earth than Cthulhu or some other nameless horror from beyond the stars, you merely need to piss of Elias.

I just love this scene so much! These are the reasons on why I love Elias so much. he can be funny, adorable, and clueless one moment than the other moment he can be a cold hearted killer. But put that to the side, he loves Chiesa so much that will become the thing that he thinks is what shes afraid of. He will literally become a "monster" just to protect the one he cares and loves. This one of the reasons on why I love this anime so much. This show can be dark and messed up, and yet be funny and adorable.

Even a creature that doesn't look human, could be more Humane than any Human could, for to base someone as a monster or Human is to say that there is a difference in either, and in many a case, there is not. For even Humans can be more Monstrous than any Monster could.
