Although Takt of Heroes didn't play during arc 2 with saving the children, I can see why you thought so. The OST that actually plays is called "Heartbeat of Determination" which is basically a slowed down version of both Takt of Heroes and Origins. This also plays at similar points as Takt of Heroes, like with Reinhard or when Subaru is being motivated. Takt of Heroes however was used both times Reinhard saved Subaru in arc 1, Subaru's initial attack against the whale (this was Takt of Heroes Origin) during arc 3, Crusch's speech during the fight same fight, Emilia defeating one of Petelguece's fingers, Subaru teaming up with Julius to defeat Petelgeuce (both the OG and Origin version are used), and Subaru arriving at Emilia's carriage. Season 2 used a new version called Takt of Heroes Awakening, which was used when young Petelguece kills Fortuna while confused by Pandora's illusion and Garfiel defeating Elsa. To the best of my knowledge, I think the version played here is not the origin version but rather the OG version, which only played when either Subaru was with a knight (Reinhard or Julius) or being a hero (being used as the main example in Crusch's speech). I just really love it being used again after an entire season. I hope you don't take this as me being rude to you by correcting you. Sorry my yap got out of control lol.

This part was soo good, glad this was clipped. The way Emilia rejected being owned by Regulus cause no sane lady would ever agree to that guy’s terms (his wives are unfortunate as they were powerless and was basically forced to the marriage). Subaru and Reinhard came at at the right time crashing the wedding thanks to Reinhard powerful kick that basically sent the door flying as a projectile that saved Emilia from harm (2:12) I can’t help but replay that part 😂 it’s pretty satisfying to see Regulus got hit and knocked back by the door. Subaru : “Dude, you’re stealing my thunder here. I wanna look cool infront of my lady” Reinhard : “My bad, can’t hold back my strength” Can’t be mad we’re left here to wait for the next episode. ​@@kitakkful I'm not the OP but I'd argue they have a point here. Reading the web novel there are moments that aren't congruent with what she says here. She'll in one scene act like she doesn't understand him flirting with her "I don't understand what you're saying" is a common thing she will say, and in other scenes clearly be flirting back or display knowledge of other people flirting (petelguse and her aunt for example). Reading the Webnovel will at time give me the sense that she does know what her feelings are (such as her speech in arc 6). I could never shake the feeling that she's not leading him on per say, but my read is she's in that "scared to change anything" stage. Part of Emilia's character is that she's a normal girl in spite of all the fantastical stuff that goes on around her, and that's a pretty "normal girl" thing for her to feel. If she accepts his confession and the two officially become an item, how would that change them? What's next? Am I good enough? What if they break up? Would she still have her knight that she can't live without? Etc. I can see Tappei going in that directon. That all being said, I read the Webnovel which is basically a rough draft and is notoriously harder on subaru than the light novels are (which is what the anime is based on). So, all those moments of Subaru's flirting getting shot down could be Tappei going with a "kick subaru" default approach before going for a softer approach in the light novels redraft.

The whole thing is a rare storytelling example of characters more resembling real people in that they sometimes suffer from problems they think already solved (in both their personal lives and their action hero lives). I can’t figure out how Tappei breaks free from the limiting storytelling rule of not repeating conflicts (and still making repeated conflicts feel fresh instead of boring).
