I love the crusader and he is definitely one of my favorites in the game. Semi important announcement below about new KZbin policy/internet regulations. Non darkest dungeon related, but KZbin now has me answer whether or not my videos are safe for children. Supposedly in the US it is 13 and under. I said no, since I occasionally like to swear and murder things in video games, so if my views drop or if I face road blocks that may be why :(.

Flesh's Heart/Ancestor's Scroll is a brain-blastingly obvious combo for him and I'm furious at myself for not trying it before now. The first class review I've watched, fantastic work!

A comp that can be interesting for Holy Lance is to actually put him in the last row and get into a Holy Lance/Dirk Stab loop with a Jester along with a Leper in position 1 and a frontline Vestal. It's also one of the rare comp where I actually liked the frontline Vestal.

There are a couple of people who can cycle the crusader with holy lance and I have not though of the Jester actually.Dirk stab is often an ability I forget about, but that would be a nice combo.

@@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming Im actually kinda impressed with that comp.. Im sorta lvling a group and locking some good quirks to see how they fare in colors of madness. You basically have everything. Raw dmg, buffs, stuns, destealth, heals and stress heals..Just not much DoTs or AoE but they hit so hard what's not dead can be stunned most of the time.

crusader can do anything really,tank,DPS,heal,stress heal.in one comp i put crusader on row 1 and 3 + shieldbreaker on 2 and vestal on 4.seeing the row just keep shuffling is fun.as it's basically immune to getting surprised unless the vestal got dragged to row 1

Totally agree with your love of the crusader. I think he gets a bit of a community slam for being too “vanilla” but dang is he good!

I have a question. I just attempted a 5th level run w/2 5th Crusaders and a 4th Vestal and Ocultest. One of the Crusaders was set up to be a super Ruins monster, (quirk- Eldrich Hater [the +damage & acc] pluse a speed quirk and his trinkets were set for damage. The other had Heavy Boots and a head in a bag that gives +25 prot and +20 stress and damage quirks) The skills for all of them emphasized healing & stress heal, and in the case of Occultest a debuff and pull. (Was doing the Feed the Crusader thing, cause I saw your Feed the Leper.) It was a long 5th level mission, and I thought I was prepared. Then I ran into the Necromancer and it all went to shit. I lost a Crusader and Occultest and had to dismiss the Vestal because almost 200 stress and 3 diseases and 4 bad quirks that were locked in. I have no idea what happened. Or more correctly, why it went tits up so suddenly. After Collect Call was made every attack just about from the Dismas heads focused on my 4th spot Occultest and the Necro focused on the 2 spot Crusader. The Occultest got a Virtue, then should have gotten a heart attack but went to zero, then climbed back to 180 and got killed. The next turn Crusader got killed, I could not heal fast enough. He had 50hp, a trinket dropped his hp by 20% but the damage out put was such that I thought it was a good trade. 🤯🙆‍♂️ My 1st question is did I not go in with high enough level characters? They were skill maxed and armor/weapons maxed. I know you are not seeing the run, but I am wondering your thoughts. This debacle I did not see coming. Mind you the run was not easy, but this was after a camp and I thought I was prepared. I understand you can't see the run, and so there are GAPS, but I am wondering your thoughts; if possible. Is/was it all R&G??? This same group at 3rd level wiped out the 4spot undulating flesh thing, with no stress, most the same skills and trinkets and it was not a contest. The Necromancer was met in a hallway and he was the 5th I have engaged and 2 of the previous ones were dead by turn 2. This ass whipping hurt. Thanks for your time.

If I am reading this correctly you sent a 4th level vestal and occultist? It's really tough to beat champion dungeons with resolve 4 heroes. Missing that final tier of armor and skills makes a massive difference. Also, crusaders are great but very slow so they don't have the ability to strike quickly or into the back lines. At champion level you'll find the flaws that existed in your parties before. My biggest advice is to have someone who can be quick and hit the back row reliably or pull. Occultist is not a bad choice but he was under leveled for this particular run. Bounty hunter is decent at damage and pulling and the highwayman with riposte is always a great choice. I do like a crusader in my ruin runs but he's more of a stunner and stress heal near the end of fights. Let me know if that helped. The party you mentioned sounds like it struggled to kill the back row quickly so they got to unload on you throughout fights. Also long dungeons are extremely difficult. Try a short dungeon or two first for champion.

Agree on the Crusader :) in the top undead area of the game..... he is a must for me as that double damage makes that area so much easier with him in the party. Never use him much as a stress healer as it usually is so low for me, tho I have had to use him as that if my A and B team stress healers die and I am just farming gold or something with a rag tag type group. Thanks for going over this in such detail :)

VES, GR, CRU, HwM "Lunge" + "Duelist's Advance" + "Holy Lance" with this order you can Lunge as many times you want without using Shadow Fade. And the HwM allways will be on position 1 wich is nice for ripose. Also if you need to stun, you can use "Pick to the Face" or "Thrown Dagger" and with this, the Grave Robber will not move. The only drawback I find to this comp is that HwM can't use "Pistol Shot" if you go for "Thrown Dagger" for example.

Bulwark with antiquarian and trinkets easily push him to 80% prot. With the marks and a flaggelant (sic), your party can end up taking tons of damage throughout the fight and end up with a net loss of like 1 or 2 HP. I love bulwark

Good guide, but tbh Bulwark is totally useless. It looks like a guard skill to which developers forgot to add guard. And battle heal is soooo boring. And kinda useless cuz Inspiring Cry already have heal. 2 is enouth to bring from death door. And if its not help - extra 3 hp will not help for sure. Good hero, but more like ""boring melee support" than anything else. Unless you make holy lance circus with 2 crusaders. I even have in mind idea to make private mod where bulwark reworked to team buff and heal to more interesting heal. At least it works for me on leper. So maybe later i will do this.
