@UnprofessionalGamerr4 жыл бұрын
I know this comment about Sunset Invasion is effectively but here’s my opinion on it. Compared to most other DLC it adds very little. No new gameplay mechanics, nothing outside of an overpowered empire that arrives whenever you set it to. Even if you don’t disable it, which most people who own it do (that should be telling), there’s a chance they won’t even show up at all. Playing as the Aztecs offers no new mechanics or unique abilities. It’s just not worth it.

As much as I agree that the portrait, unit and shield packs can be skipped (and should be for a first-time buyer), I honestly love them. The portrait and unit packs make each region of the world visually unique, with the portraits being very good at this as otherwise you'd just have two set of portraits, "European" and "Middle-Eastern", meaning that someone from Mali and someone from Mongolia would look the same. Same as Byzantine rulers and Icelandic Vikings. And the shields are a little detail I love. It makes the big historic dynasties special when they have their own unique historical coat of arms. Without it, it's like the Starks and Lannisters for GoT having randomly generated CoAs instead of their wolf and lion. But only get them if you really want them. And wait for a sale too.
@PartyElite6 жыл бұрын
I 100% see where you're coming from (and I'm likely to finish my own collection this winter sale) but I was just hoping to help complete newcomers find ways to reduce the size of the financial pill they have to swallow. I know I would never (rarely?) think to spend $300 at once on a game. So I took all the things that could possibly be skipped and cut them with a harsh but loving knife.
@vesanius15 жыл бұрын
@@PartyElite You can find them on sale for -75% every now and then tho, which would put it down to $75. That's not as much anymore. I personally think that the portraits are must have to enjoy the game to its fullest. The music in this game is piece of art as well and I would only skip them if it would mean skipping any major expansion. The game just feels so much better when you listen to this amazing music. Although you could always just mute the in-game music and play it from KZbin or whatever so I guess it's still a valid point. They are very cheap while on sale though and I like to support the artists behind the fantastic in-game music. I agree with the unit packs, shields and the expansions you explained in your video. That gives a very good idea for a newcomer of what to get right away. TL;DR I would buy any expansion related portraits and music together with that expansion and skip any music and artwork that's not related to the expansions you own.

I can honestly say that the game is still plenty of fun with no DLC. I know for people who have been playing for a long time that not having things like pagans, muslims, and a whole host of other features is unthinkable, but it really is a lot of fun. I played vanilla for a year before getting all the DLC up to Charlemagne in a huge sale and I had a blast. Now, with the sales coming up, it is definitely not a bad thing to start out with more, but you can still have a great time with the original.

I'd say Monks and Mystics is a must buy, at least after the first few playthroughs. Don't care about the historical accuracy of it all, it adds SO MUCH roleplay and THAT is what CK2 is all about. ALSO if you want to play with mods later on, you're gonna need it for most of the big ones.

I disagree that portraits are not important to the gameplay. The first vanila portraits that came with the release are very bad, dull and laughably ethnically incorrect and lead to worse experience, especially if you have already seen any of the new portraits and are used to them . I am kind of glad, that Paradox realized that on the last DLC and now include Portraits in the new big DLCs. Also I can see the new German and Greek portraits in your demo, so you did not personally skip on them.
@PartyElite6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I didn't skip on everything I suggest skipping on - partly because a friend got me CK2 during a huge sale that included them (as a bday gift), and partly because I was able to buy them in parts, before the whole package was $300 at once. The thinking behind this video was to help people who are approaching CK2 for the first time ever, and are looking for any way to reduce the $ hit. It's quite a pill to swallow.

This is ahistorical, there was no such thing as a council that told the ruler which laws to enact and definitely no wars to create one. The struggle between the powers of the king vs. nobility is rather well simulated with the crown authority I think. This is not Game of Thrones, this is medieval Europe. It's just a meh DLC with lackluster features that don't add anything of value to the game IMO.

Great guide, but for the first playthrough I think that Old gods and Rippers due are "Wait". The content is definitely great, but they makes game harder. This is not a bad for experienced player, but the game is very complex with long learning curve and additional difficulty can scare new players. Especially if you try to play as a Viking for the first time... this is very bad idea, because of the forced accession laws. I think that Legacy of Rome is the only essential DLC, because it rebalance wars, without it the game doesn't fills right. Also Byzantine empire is a great place for new players (not as Emperor of course). Way of life is cheap and adds a lot, so there is no reason to not buy it, but you'll be OK even without it. So... Base game without any DLC is perfectly fine. If you want to spend some more money then pick the Legacy of Rome first. If you have a little more money get the Way of Life and Sons of Abraham. Wait for the others and buy them if you like the game. WARNNG: You can get addicted and buy even the cosmetic packs :) About cosmetic packs: - music packs are great, not essential by any means, but great if you are addicted and want more flavor - portrait pack adds some flavor, but they are for very addicted players and historical geeks - unit pack... great art, but you rarely zoom enough too see them. The only reason to buy them are to support the developers.

first of all, the base game is fun even without DLC,even if Late game is tricky. So for people short with money you don't have to have any dlc. To have a better experience I would recommend Legacy of Rome for the late game( you need retenue to prevent your empire from collapsing), and conclave for vassals management. The rest is flavour, Nice but unnecessary for beginner. As soon as you want to try anything else than a christian go for the old gods. The norse is fun to play. the other nice "flavour" DLC are Sons of Abraham Way of Life The Reaper's Due Beyond this point it is up to you, where you wanna play and your budget of course :)

10:50 Your evaluation is liege centric. Remember that a lot of us start out as counts and *not* dukes or kings. For a count these mechanics actually makes it easier to rise to power. Way of Life and Conclave are the only two "must haves" in my book, the rest being all optional but nice to have. 13:04 Try to make your own secret society with a religion not accepted in a given country. Respectfully disagree on some of the thoughts. In the vanilla edition I missed the realism of character improvement and character interaction, coupled with some mechanics that help your new heir to have an easier time on the throne. Also, vanilla wars can be really clumsy. So I'd say "Must have"s would be Way of Life and Conclave (to flesh out characters and for more realistic vassal interaction) Monks and Mystics (for more character customization with societies and artifacts to leave to your heir) and Legacy of Rome (retinues), as an essential for effective warring.

Everything is complex, religion is losing importance, countrys are more important than rulers and Wars are not cool anymore because everybody uses guns. It kinda annoys me how the eu4 converter and ruler designer are a dlc, they should be a free uptade imo.

I got this game last week, played it for 3/4 hours and i can say that it is too overwhelming. I'm having fun and geting destroyed in every aspect of the game.

Just keep playing and getting destroyed until you get used to it. Start as a vassal in a stable kingdom or as a chief in Ireland.

Can we get a pirated version of the game with all the dlcs somewhere??

Does anyone else find it absurd that we HAVE to have guides like this because of hundreds of dollars of dlc bloat? I've been buying these games for many years, but I lose interest the more and more they bloat. Gone are the days of releasing a single title you're proud of, just fix it 2 years later like they're doing with Stellaris.

There is no need for a guide, when you see a new dlc for paradox game, you must buy it.
