You've hit most of the points that will allow you to jump in and play without wasting an extra 20 min repeating yourself, jabbering about DLC and what makes the game special, or explaining things that are self evident from a little play. The best tip of all is to not care about winning or losing. Just play the game, try out different actions, don't be invested in the outcome. Don't worry about strategy or anything. The real joy of Crusader kings is the stories you create. I once had many children. I'd often hear the pitter patter of little feet running around late at night, waking up to discover another of my children dead. Then it turned out one of my sons was, let's say, elimating the competition. He was gifted, so I was conflicted. I didn't punish him, as there was no hard proof. He grew up to be a genius and probably the best, most gifted and talented person in my dynasty.

Dark souls: Roll around avoid attacks. Crusader Kings 2: Imprison and execute your wife/cousin because she became too old. Marry a new wife/cousin, however she is 16 so she can make a lot more children for you, who you then can use to marry off for political gain. Now all that is left is to assassinate possible Rivals, Revolts and maybe some of your kids if they aren't good enough and want land that they don't deserve.

Which is a hallmark of a shitty tutorial. If it fails to teach the game to a point where the player understands it, its a bad tutorial.
@Theevilrhino4 жыл бұрын
Ravielsk You might want to learn what a fucking tutorial is lmao. Expecting it to be what it’s not, and was never intended to be is stupid and the fault of the user. This game is too deep to teach in 30 minutes. There are too many features, options, and situations. This is meant to expedite the learning process, that will simply require playing or watching many hours of gameplay. If this tutorial didn’t give you the tools to open your first game with a mild understanding of the point of the game and some of the tools at your disposal maybe you aren’t as capable a human being as you had imagined. Expecting it to make you a master after 30 minutes simply implies you are ignorant to the games depth or simply an imbecile...

Yeah I remember when I first played CK2 i tried the tutorial, and it was absolute shit. I honestly can't remember how I learned how to play it, but I'd say out of all the Paradox games I have, I suck at this one the most, but it can be the most fun sometimes.
@drinkyxcy66225 жыл бұрын
Well ot wants to be as realistic as possible. If you want your kingdom to prosper, you'll have to learn how. The magic of it is that when you'll learn it, there still be something you don't know of. Dark souls is the same thing, it teaches you basic movement and gives you a big "fuck you, learn the hard way" tutorial boss. But still, out of all Paradox games, CK2 is the hardest to learn.
@jrico67914 жыл бұрын
@@talkinhead9649 you actually agreed with him that it's inaccessible and then told him to shut up?
@Panic_Pickle4 жыл бұрын
TalkinHead9 no. It’s a great game, yes, but part of being a good game is making it enjoyable. There are plenty of games that have a lot of depth and take ages to get your head around everything whilst giving you a good UI and guiding you through the basics you need to get started. If I hadn’t been playing with friends my first time I wouldn’t have given this game a chance because of how bad the UI is.
@tubey844 жыл бұрын
@@talkinhead9649 I've played games of every kind since the mid 80s. I've played games that relied on having an instruction manual just to basically start. I'm not a "casual" by any means - that's not the position I'm coming from here. I'm not criticising the quality of CK2 at all other than it being horrendous for a new player to delve into. And that is a valid criticism of it. There's a reason this video exists as an example - the game quite literally NEEDS a better explanation of what the actual hell you do in it. It's similar in a way to Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress - some of the best games I've played full stop - but it even makes those games look like childs' play in comparison in terms of accessibility.

Merlijn U I don't think I even watched any tutorials when I first started ck2..took me about 10 hours of gameplay to understand all the features and mechanics.. I learnt the basic mechanics in 3 hours, and the rest as I went down the line..this was just the base game though -- I learnt the dlc mechanics about 2 hours (on average) after getting each and everyone of them. Edit: now that I think back on it; the base game is 90% different compared to having all the Dlc enabled. At the time, I was astonished by how different it was when I got some dlc..lol
@gypsy.mountain.viking45056 жыл бұрын
It's got a lot of depth (just like the other paradox strategy games). There's just too much in this game to totally wrap your head around in 10 hrs. I can still find buttons every now and then, containing info that I didn't know was readily available, even after about 400 hrs into the game, lol. After playing vanilla for all that it's worth the dlc's are a walk in the park.

I mostly just learned from watching play throughs and the first 50 hours of gameplay and I still learn something new every time I play, like the fact that if theres a spymaster that won’t join a plot, try to invite him to your court and see if you can bribe the new one.

Of Paradox’s games, I’ve only played CK1, CK2, EU III and HOI III, but I’ve found CK2 to be the easiest and most playable of the bunch. I don’t know why specifically, but I suspect that it is because CK2 actually has very little micromanaging to do. Control your vassals, get good traits for your heirs, and make marriages that give you good alliances and claims and that’s about all you have to do besides the occasional war.

There was defo some useful info in this, the one thing I really was looking for though is some clue how to make *good* decisions. Like in chess, I could make a tutorial about how all the pieces move, but that's not teaching anybody how to be better at the game, just how it works. You explained how to get married, for example, but not what your best choices are and why, strategically. The little info you do mention is mostly in the god awful in-game tutorial. I feel like that's what new players struggle with, they can figure out how all the buttons work but they don't have a clue how to evaluate a good idea from a mediocre one, and that's what I was looking for here. The other day a CK2 bundle came out on humble bundle that has all the major dlc could you make a tutorial briefly explaining them?
@mattyhatty1114 жыл бұрын
You probably know them by now but in case you don't I'll explain them the best I can. Charlemagne: allows you start the game in 769 and adds features such as being able to make your own custom kingdom and empire. Old Gods: focuses on the Vikings and includes pagan religions and let's you start at a date in the 800s Sunset invasion: Aztecs will invade the Old World Reaper's Due: adds new diseases, the Black Death and a court physician Way of Life: focuses on different aspects of rulership for greater character customisation Raj of India: adds new religions and Indian nations as playable factions Jaded Dragon: adds new religions and Chinese nations as playable factions Horse Lords: not too sure about this one, think it focuses on the Mongols Conclave: greater depth added to the council system, not recommended for people new to the game as it takes some skill to grasp this dlc Sons of Abraham: can't remember much for this one but I know it adds Judaism as a playable religion Sword of Islam: let's you play as Muslim factions and focuses mostly on these factions Holy Fury: greater depth added to Christian nations and adds events like coronations etc Monks and Mystics: adds the ability to join different societies and cults etc Legacy of Rome: focuses on the Byzantine Empire, and gives you the option to restore the Roman Empire. Also adds retinues to the game. I think that's all the major dlcs, probably have forgotten one or two. The rest is just new music, new looks for units, portraits and other stuff that slightly changes the look of the game.

Just found this game and thought it would be fun to play. I am from Munster in Ireland and where I planned on starting. Good to know its a good start in point

I picked the petty kingdom of Mumu in 1066 AD. By 1453, I managed to... 1. Reunite Mumu, which is broken at the time. 2. Forge an alliance with Sicily. 3. Acquire Crusader Egypt from a crusade. 4. Lose Crusader Egypt's land. 5. Usurp the title of King of Ireland. 6. Unite Ireland under my rule. 7. Forge an alliance with Portugal 8. Dig into Scotland's land. 9. Acquire Kanem from a crusade. 10. Usurp the title of King of Scotland. To summarise, I held the titles of "King" in 4 kingdoms, 3 of which still existed at the end of the game. I had a perfect family tree, father to son inheritance. I had enough finances to ruin any country I pleased with mercenaries. I had Piety and Prestige beyond usable quantities. There was no consequence to my actions. The game read my save file as the absolute lowest difficulty. Had the game not ended in 1453, I could have held all of Scotland and Ireland. My next objective would have been Whales. Pretty good for a first attempt. I forgot how to start up again, though, after being awesome for so long.

This is all very interesting but it only explains what can be learned by reading things on screen. How do you actually do anything?

@Some Dude When experimenting hasn't worked out we watch videos which say they are tutorials, which this isn't..duh

I don't have much time to sit down and work out how games work, this one felt more like a unpaid job

Unlike a lot of countries such as England, France, Germany etc., you can use only prestige to construct many buildings such as in Scotland.

That was a very good basic tutorial of CK2! Subbing for the quality and hopes you have additional videos on the crusader kings series! I'm getting back into CK2 in anticipation and was looking for a good quick refresher and you nailed it! Great content bud! Are you excited about CK3 coming this September?
