Glad to help! The Caro-Kann is a really solid system but the Fantasy Variation makes things fun for white.

Levy recommends the Fantasy as well. I gave up on it a while back because I didn't like the lines where black doesn't take in the center.

Ya I saw he made a video on it! He also said he has a hard time playing against it with the Caro-Kann Defense. I'm sure he's not the only one. One of my students (avid Caro-Kann guy) said he plays 3. ...e5 which is not sound but very aggressive and trappy. Anyways, hope you've been well Steve!

Hi@@TheChessGiant, this opening proved out to be a great success as I was able to beat a player rated 300+ points more than me. But now people just stopped taking on e4, they instead play e6. Could you please make up a video covering that line as well?

I have been playing the Fantasy against the CK and have had really good results. Now I love it when black plays the CK. Before not only were my results not that good and I tried all kinds of things, almost everything, but I found lots of the lines either not practical or boring.. This is a rare line, so I think black often does not have a good answer to it. There are lots of lines where white can get an advantage or even big advantage.

This is an interesting line... 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.f3 dxe4 4.fxe4 e5 5.Nf3 exd4 6.Bc4 Nf6 7.O-O Bc5 8.Ng5 O-O 9.Bxf7+ Kh8 10.e5 Ng4 11.Qd3 g6 12.e6.... It's that type of line to hit the f7 square with the bishop & knight fried liver style...(If rxf7 then Nxf7,Kxf7),and play e5....Pin to win type of tactic.

The Fantasy variation is occasionally met in tournaments and if white knows the the theory well, black can have a hard time!

@@TheChessGiant that is right! Nigel Davies recommends the Fantasy variation too. For those players who are very sharp tacticians it might be a good choice for club players up to 2000 elo.
