@@prodLext yeah but that came out some time after they had formed and the Alice practice single was made. Plenty of time for grooming. It doesn’t matter if she was 20, those vocals were recorded when she was 15. Yeah it might be a bit much to say she was a child, but she definitely was not of legal age. And according to the account he even lied about how it was made, saying he stumbled upon the vocals when really, it appears, it was all planned. If he had to initially lie about how it came about, that most likely means he was quite aware of there being something wrong about it.

This is really sad. The music they made together was absolute magic. Crystal Castles II is one of my all time favorite albums. It just sucks to know that while making this unforgettable music, Kath was abusing Alice and others. In the end he's a scumbag.

When I saw them live near the end of her time in the group, she had just broken her leg or foot right before the show. They made an announcement about it and it seemed like the set was going to be cancelled. At the last moment they announced she was going on anyway, and she came to the stage in a cast, drinking a bottle of whiskey through the set. I was in a place in the club where I could see her exit the stage after the show and she was obviously in so much agony sitting there on the steps to the stage. At the time I thought she was so badass for fighting through the pain. I wonder now if she was forced to go up there. I'm glad she left.

I was a music photographer working for STV (Scottish Television) covering Rockness in 2009. Crystal Castles were the first act on the main stage, Friday afternoon. The gig was done within 20 minutes. Alice drank a bottle of Jack Daniels in around 10 minutes. Chaso then ensued. Alice ended up in the crowd and got in a fight and had to be escorted away, thus ending the opening act to a pretty chaotic weekend for me covering the event. I still have a really good image of Alice, profile shot if her leaning forwards, mic in one hand, the half finished bottle of JD in the other. Wild look in her eyes.

NO different han JOAN jett...and to this day teen age girls are repping joan jet with some IM a wanna be punk chip on their shoulder....ignorant to the rape/assault she played part/witnessed in. It isn't also suprise to some degree when the band is born from squatters place where a teen run-away girl is living a punk life. It just isn't that she got taken advantage of, but the degree to which it went is crazy after they already made it. I think he was maybe paranoid that she would talk about him taking drugs with her and sleeping with her when she was young to other people or use it as a weapon to blackmail him with exposing what happened and he would not have any control if she would threathen him with that (on top of just being a garpage human). Just propably why it went so controlling.

Now I know why Crystal Castles music was dark and has so much agony. It pierces thru your heart and shakes the strongest mind. I listened to their music thruout the hardest time in my life. Alice is so strong and brave to escape that terrible situation. Edit: As a person who had been manipulated for almost of childhood and teenage time, for some reason I can feed some strong bind from crystal castles. You may say that why Alice didn't ask for help from police, why she didn't just run away or fight back, then you need to know that the Stockholm syndrome is actually a thing. I hadn't known and denied that I was abused by my parents until I was escaped from my home by my friends. Until now my parents is still trying to interfere with my personal life. This video explained why I feel so related to crystal castes. Saying "shakes the strongest mind" maybe over-exaggerated, but as a person who had deal with a lot of hardship in life, the childhood trauma of being captived and abused will always be the thing I scared to deal with the most and crystal castles accidentally touched my deepest fear.

I love the unique sound and artistry that was Crystal Castles, Alice 8s an awesome artist. She is a friggin legend for walking away from Crystal Castles and exposing a predator and will always have my deepes respect. For anyone reading this that it may help; Abuse comes in many different forms and plenty of people don't even realize they are being abused. One of the first things to happen in abusive relationships is isolation. Tho isolation isn't always domestic violence. I feel like more should be taught about Domestic Violence in schools tbh.

There have been people accused of things in this day and age and been cleared later and there careers were never the same, never had the same exposure, the situation took a toll and affected their mental health, made them act differently etc... This seems BS... and the covert sexism against him? So, the female singer left the band, then the band continued to do well... and 'then' she came out with these allegations, even when the band did a gig for feminism and women's wage disparity? Seriously, get a grip! It all seems very convenient. Oh, and the 'double standards' President Macrons wife was his teacher, and knew him from 15! And, I remember girls at school when I was a teenager and before, and you know women not being sexually aggressive 1950/60s! I was sexually assaulted by a number of girls growing up. I was sexually propositioned many times by girls, whilst growing up. I'm really tired of this crass sexism of men are sexually rampant and predatory, and women are angels... it is absolutely not true! Now, when women are just as ambition as men, we should be in a situation where women are being taken to court and prosecuted as much as men for sexually aggressive behaviour. Instead the situation is so distorted now that a man can be abused, as I have been repeatedly, and then is persecuted. Then again, I could be wrong about this situation, but the sequence of events... and the man who was accused had said the same, and I'd forgotten about this. But when you spoke of this sequence of events? I hate to break it to people, but women can be just as sexually promiscuous, aggressive as men! And it is about time we grew up! I genuine thought by this time in our society, we'd have as many or nearly as many prosecuted for sexual abuse as men. The fact that society seems to think that your sexual organ has to 'stick out' for it to mean that can be sexually abusive or not... is so incredibly ignorant, irrational and stupid - it is beggar's belief!

As I said on other videos like this I hung out with CC as they were on their come up. Everything was weird from jump. No phone, only an email, we just had to plan to meet them in specific places because of this. Ethan kept all the contact info, and their schedule, on a piece of paper in his jacket. One time they asked me to bring them some pot. It was a 3 hour drive for me to get there and it wasn’t exactly cheap. When I got there Ethan acted like he didn’t know me, he encouraged Alice to smoke, and as soon as that happened they disappeared. It seemed like they were not necessarily having a fight but Ethan absolutely didn’t want her talking to us without him present. We’d had fun when it was more of a party environment but when it was just the two of them it was really uncomfortable. When I heard the accusations everything made sense. Sadly, when predators like this POS are allowed to stay in society, they are almost guaranteed to not only repeat the behavior, but also to continue escalating, with greater and greater frequency, until they are caught, stopped, or a tragedy occurs. Alice coming out should have been more than enough to bury him for life. These kind of people don't change, they will always be opportunistic, unstable, violent and knowing predators. I really hope edith gets far away before this behavior escalates further. I remember going to their concert in Russia and Alice didn't show up. We all thought it was weird. I caught Ethan amongst the audience and asked where Alice was and he said she was "sick"... Everyone thought she'd used alcohol or drugs and it was so strange that she did it so often apparently. I went to see them twice and never saw Alice, next time they just cancelled. I think it was towards the end of CC. So weird learning about what was actually going on.

I remember going to a NIN show in 2008. CC was opening for them on that tour. Alice came out on stage with like six drinks. At the time I thought it was funny, but in hindsight she was probably boozing up to contend with her mental health.

I just replied about this … I tried to ignore it but also it was driving me crazy and had to say something bc I didn’t see anyone else say this and what someone else mentioned below about how it’s not about “women’s income disparity”?? that’s just a bizarre assumption so idk where they found this info and makes me sus on them simply googling info and reading it to people which is neat but idk I’d prefer someone interested enough to google sxsw to realize it’s not whatever this person seems to have read somewhere but that’s my personal take…

I saw them once at a music festival. Alice wasn't there. It was Kath and a drummer. There was apparently an issue with something on the stage, I assume the sound wasn't how they wanted it, although as an audience member, I couldn't tell that anything was wrong. After two songs, the drummer had a massive tantrum, threw his sticks, kicked his drums and just stormed off. Kath remained and essentially did a DJ set. I later saw them hanging around near me during a DJ set (in a different part of the festival). Mira and Helen from Ladytron were doing the set (which was really fun btw). Kath and the drummer stayed for one song, not looking impressed, and then walked off. I can't say that I had a good impression of the 'band' from that event.

Right about the time I heard the story that 'alice practice' was supposedly a mic test, my BS meter started going off. I thought it was truly bizarre to pretend that the vocals just "accidentally" happened. (Like, whoops, she tripped and fell into a hot mic, and instead of saying, "testing," she belted out an entire pre-written song.) Even so, it never occurred to me that the story went this deep. Sad.

Abuse comes out of nowhere sometimes, I hope she is able to thrive after it.

standard playbook of most abusers in the alternative scene. find a really young target who thinks you're a rockstar, cause she's too young to see you for the fraud you actually are. groom her to become your muse but also totally dependent on you. isolate her, control who she talks to. you now have the most unbalanced relationship possible, you're literally holding all the cards. if she wises up at some point, you deny everything and find a new target. it's depressing to see how scenes often continue to stan guys like this after the truth comes out.

Yeah. Lots of guys controlled, abused and exploited their partners while making music together. Ryan Adams and mandy Moore, Ike and Tina, Tim Armstrong and Brody Dalle, Alexis from Daughters and Kristin Hayter (lingua ignota). MJ (likely, imo) molested kids. Bob Marley raped his wife. Bowie and iggy fucked the same 14 year old. Miles Davis beat his wife. John Lennon actually didn't but he did slap her once and was psycho controlling over Cynthia may and yoko. Steven Tyler and nugent both imprisoned and raped (statutory) minors. Afrika bambaataa was an active child molester . But Watkins? He fuckin raped babies. With the moms. His password was 'i fvc* k1dslol'. No contest
