I had a 1984 that had 27000 miles on it when I got it. It had 206000 thousand on it when I gave it to my son . He put on another 60000 thousand. Never had a problem with the crossfire injection, motor never used oil and never touched the transmission either. Drove year round except when we got more 3 inches of snow live in the Midwest Great car. I’ve had a 1990 zr1 for 23 years another great one.

I echo your comments about C4 driver comfort. My 92 C4 hugs me and supports my back and hips exceedingly well. I can ride a long time and not have back or hip pain, and for an old guy, that’s a big deal. I’m glad I have a C4. It feels good to hear someone say something nice about C4s.

@@justbop5518 interesting that you bring up back pain. After owning nearly 30 Corvette’s the one which surprised me was the C6. For me, in comfort, it was a step backwards. The C6 is the only Corvette I’ve ever driven which hurt my lower back on a long drive.

Yeah 😂 they're nice cars but it's very very handy for the owner to be mechanically inclined 😂 my 1985's transmission died and I found a Corvette dismantler on eBay who lives 200 miles south of my location so I cruised down and grabbed a fully functional '89 automatic for $150!! Came home slammed it in by myself 😂 lucky for me he doesn't like to sell transmissions on eBay due to the shipping cost and hassles

When I got my C4 I had no idea how badly in disrepair it was. 8k later, with still some minor issues, it's running like raped ape. I think that some people that purchase a Corvette, have no idea what kind of maintenance and care is involved. It's a delicate machine.

I fell in love with the C4 way back in 1995 when I visited the Corvette Museum and they had a new one you could sit in and try on for size. My first C4 was a1985 and it was a good car but my current C4 is a 1991 convertible. Quasar Blue with a tan top and tan interior with the ZF six speed trans. Every time I take it out almost invariably someone asks me about it and several times people take pictures of it. Yes it's fun to drive, a lot more then C3's are when going thru the corners.

Excellent review, Lyle! I recently bought a pristine, '91 ZR-1 with 38,000 miles on the odo. Everything, including the original (now 32 year old) Bilstein FX-3 ride control shocks still work on the car. The previous owner put the Borla exhaust system on it, but I didn't think it sounded right for the LT-5. I removed that system (still have it), and straight-piped the exhaust. No resonator or mufflers, no H or X pipe, just true dual exhaust. It sounds absolutely amazing now, especially above 5,000 rpm. I was originally shopping around for a 2010-2013 Grand Sport, but all the really nice ones are still running 40K on up. Then I ran across this ZR1. Beautiful red, black interior, impeccable condition. Then it sparked that "dream car" passion again. Now I've always loved C4s, but the ZR1 is not only historical, it's the game changer in all of Corvette history. With that said, the #1 reason I bought it is because it's one of the most iconic, timeless, classic performance cars of all time. Whether I rip it through the gears or cruise around in it, it sort of takes people back in time to better days compared to the world we live in now. I know the C5, C6, C7, and C8 are much better cars in just about every way, but none of them have the uniqueness or character of C4s or C4 ZR-1. The C4 saved Corvette from certain death for sure.

Hey Lyle, I’m a C4 guy and am actually one of your customers. I bought one of my C4s new, a 1994, and drove it daily until around 2010, when I got ill and stopped driving. I maintained/restored and drove my 1988 C4 all over America for 18 years, from Jan. 5, 2005 until Nov. 2, 2023. I've driven from Louisiana to the Smokey Mountains in N. Carolina and to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado into Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon and down the West Coast. I drove it down Route 66 to the Grand Canyon through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma and back to Louisiana. When I traded it in on a low mileage C6 last month she had over 145K miles on the clock. RPM Garage in Dallas looked her over and gave me a $10K credit trade-in value for it. That was the best running and handling car I've ever owned. I'll always remember the fun times driving it. Most-especially through the old mountain blacktop country roads of America. Thanks for giving me an outlet to brag on my faithful old C4 Corvette. If I had the space, I'd have kept that Corvette. But having two of them is about all I have the space for in keeping them out of the weather. My other one is a resto/modified 78 C3. Thanks again and keep up the good work here on the channel.

You nailed it brother. I bought an 84 in the fall of 2018. I paid a little too much for it but, when I looked it over the only thing that didn't work on it was the radio. I have had a lot of fun wrenching on it. Over all I have not had to do that much to it. My big task was fixing oil leaks and getting the steering gear rebuilt. That was expensive. Beyond that it has been just minor stuff. Mostly stuff that was screwed up by the previous owner. One of the other things about the C4 is, starting with the 85 model you started to see the return of horsepower and torque. The 84 was under whelming at 205 horsepower. Torque was still pretty good though at 290 lb ft. When the L98 came out that was as you said a vast improvement. I remember when they came out. I was an apprentice tech at a dealership. I worked on them. I worked on the engines and the Doug Nash overdrives. Just a cool story for you all. We have a sweet immigrant girl from Africa that we have "adopted". This summer when she come over for the 4th of July party we have every year she insisted to be taken home in my Vette. It was her first time ever in a car like that. When I got here home her words where, "that was awesome!" That to me is the reason to have a corvette. To share the experience with others. Her words, as soon as I can drive and afford one I am going to a get a corvette. A new corvette enthusiast has been born. Thanks Lyle for all you do for the corvette community.

At 76 years old, I own a 95 coupe and a 2011GS coupe, both 6 speeds. To me the C4 is the Corvette that connects the "old" Vettes to the "new" style of Vette. My C4, to me is actually more fun to drive because of its rawness and lack of sophistication that my C6 has, getting in it seems purposeful and sets a certain mood for driving it. And when it comes right down to it it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow! My C4 is great fun and my C6 is a great car. Thanks for a great video!

Well put. Some things take time to learn about what enjoyment that can be had without doing 3x the speed limit. At 72 I find myself enjoying my C4. With all the different performance cars I've owned this was a big step back. After fixing things Maintenace wise, to which I enjoy doing. It's a road car that is so unlike the 450 horse cars that I've had. Not that going fast isn't fun, it is still. But pushing it just a little and taking a curve or cornering cleanly without muss or fuss is as much fun as doing things that can get you thrown in the pokie on a straight away. CHEERS

I sold mine and wished I still had both. Funny how that works. Not that I don't enjoy my C4. In hunting for a good LT4 96. But pick up a 90 that just needed a little love. Just service work, but with any 30 plus year old car. It's not all that cheap. It came with a perfect paint and interior so now it runs as good as it looks. I missed out on a 96 LT4 that had been owned by a gentleman who was having trouble getting in and out of it. He had always kept the maintenance up and If I would have sold my mustang sooner! You know how that goes. A hint about finding a nice one. Is if there are any corvette car shows that you can attend. You just may find what you're looking for?

Thank you for some love for C4. It was the poster on my wall back on the day. Red poster, red convertible vette. 1988 waa the year. I looked at that poster daily saying to myself" one day". I was 15 then. 35 years later i now have that same car. 1988 C4 red convertible, just like the poster. I sold the car and bought it back. It was a victim of Hurrricane Irma a few months ago. I will never sell it.again. She isint the best generation. It the bext of both worlds, have a reliable drivetrain, still with now a classic look. They made alot. They are cheap now. Hi Lyle, this is your first video that has been on my feed. I watched it because I presently own a low mileage 94 Corvette Coupe. It’s white and torch red. My first Corvette was s 63 convertible with a 327/340 in 1969. Since then I’ve owned approximately 30 Corvette’s. The oldest having been a 54 which by the way, was s blast to drive. My current C4 is factory stock. The only thing that I’m not fond of is exiting the car but hey, I’m 73 years old and find it only a minor inconvenience. The Corvette value proposition has always been its strong suit against actual competitors. We found it expensive in America because every other American car was so inexpensive. But I still maintain that throughout its history Corvette remains Americas only true sports car. As you can imagine, I could go on forever. Suffice to say that you’ve done a great job on this video, Focusing on the bang for the buck was the right approach. Also my opinion is that the interior of the C5 and all GM cars from that era is just plain hideous and has not aged well. C4- First American car to pull over 1G on the skid pad. And a remarkable drag coefficient as well. My car is beautiful with a brand new set of Continentals. I own it for $16000. What a deal!😎

Some great points about the C4. Originally I wanted to try and get into a C5 because of the price for baseline performance. But i was weary of having to deal with the transaxle with no lift readily available. Then my buddy sent me an ad a 93 C4 6speed for under 8k. Loved the interior as soon as i got in and the previous owner kept a detailed list of the maintenance theyd done throughout the years. So, i thought why not if i hate it i can sell it for what i got into it at a minimum. A little over a year later with header and coilovers im able to compete and beat C5 and C6s locally as well as my FTD in autox without stripping the car and still having AC to keep me cool. I'm convinced the C4 is an underrated platform and as you stated will go up in price particularly from track day enthusiast wanting an affordable competitive option they can still use for date night. See you guys in January!

Get the doors done this month. All that’ll be left is the rear hatch weatherstripping. After that I’ll replace the emblems and get the car detailed and I’ll have a car with solid power and handling, reliability, and looks that’ll kill. It’s almost there. Much love man. Gidday Lyle. Those are my exact thoughts & reason why I purchased a 1996 LT4 in Australia, that was well maintained ....as when it came to "Value for money" when comparing the C4 to other muscle cars in my country, it was the outright winner by the length of the straight. Just like it's race performances on the track that were so dominating which you've outlined in this & many other Vids. And I really mean that being a car-guy. You can't beat it for value. And I'm so glad I brought this car. It's easy to work on, especially if you have a "Garage-Hoist". If you want to know anything about them just google it. And with my model of the C4, the fuel consumption is absolute fantastic. On the highway I've had it down to as low as 8 .1 litres to the 100ks, which is pretty compatible with my V6. By the way Lyle. Thanks for doing all your DVD's as they've really "Schooled" me up when I got "Fair Dinkum" (that's KEEN in Aussie slang) & started looking for one of these babies 12 months. They are simply pure class & very cool. Cheers ;-)

Been to Memphis from central PA 2 times and learned that it is a terrific car for a long road-trip, has more than adequate space for 2 peoples luggage, and even though it is an auto-trans, gets amazing fuel economy.. Very little spent in maintenance. So glad to have this truly great car in my garage.

In Europe we have prices that are 10-20k more than in USA and not talking about any Z06... A targa coupé is already SUPER rare and taken as an exotic car..and Z06, in Spain we have about 7 or 8 at max! Oh and should be nice to hear some words from you about the hate that exists between c6 and c5 owners..cuz it's huge how much hate there's even inside the Corvette community (sadly). One thing you forgot to mention about the C4, is that as long as the roads are plowed, you will not slip, slide or get stuck in the snow, if you drive it with a head on your shoulders. We live in Chicago and for my birthday my wife bought me a brand new 94 black rose 6 speed Corvette coupe. We drove it year-round in all four seasons yet we never got stuck in the snow, the rain, the mud or the gravel. Granted we did not take that car off road nor did we drive that car in a snow storm with 6 to 10 inches of snow. But we did drive it while it was snowing outside. We did drive it when the roads were icy and we drove through snow up to 6 inches deep. What was nice was the traction control along with the antilock brakes with the knowledge from the dealership to drive that car respectfully and that car will always get you home and it sure did we never had a problem with it. Started up right away even in the subzero weather, Air conditioner always worked in 100+ degree weather and with the staggered tires it handled like a roller coaster. One of the best cars we ever owned. Plus if you drove it nicely at 65 mph with the air conditioning on at 65 mph in sixth gear, we were getting 30 miles to the gallon!! Lastly, are these 94 LT1 or the 94ZR1, can you bolt on a Tunnel Ram, a blower, a single or a double turbo to it ?? Thank you and to anyone else who can help me out with this project…….😎

I have owned several corvettes in every generation including a C8. I currently own two C4's and enjoy driving them as much as anyone my other corvettes. I believe a lot of reviews are from people who have done there resurch on them but never as actual owned one. I own a 1984 base Corvette and they will! say they had a harsh ride. That might be true on the Z51 but not not the case if you have the base model. My 2016 with The Z51 package is more harsh than the 1984. My 1990 with the 6 speed and headers feels just as strong as my 2000 with the 6 speed transmission. My point is if you can find one in good condition, you drive it and you like it, make your own assessment, and if you like it buy it. You cannot go wrong. I enjoy driving my C4 Corvettes as much as any of the others including my C8 all for different reasons. Maybe because they are different is why they are great. But the one thing they all have in common is they are Corvettes.
