Colloquial speaking is something that the broad majority of the population does in everyday conversations and talking to their friends, family, colleagues, etc., so why talk sophisticated and scholarly to the entire population of Americans, especially when 1/8 of them speak Spanish as their primary language and another large portion aren't as educated to understand formal language? +Jiri Klouda I don't know why you think this is a political speech. The jokes were not bad but half of them did not connect with the audience because Hasan was speaking too fast. I was disappointed that Hassan ruined the closure by blaming Trump for not defending the 1st Amendment, which is not true. Trump can be blamed for a lot of things. Not defending the 1st Amendment is not one of them. In fact, it is my personal opinion that Trump talks shit to get around the censorship that our 'free press' imposes on anyone that is not establishment. Look at how Gary Johnson & Stein did not get any press during the election. Even Bernie got press only towards the end that too bad press. Trumps talks shit to force the press to focus on him. I am sure he believes that any press (even bad press) is better than NO press at all and it sure worked and is continuing to work for him. The selection of Hasan a Muslim is political (because the organizer's intention was to make Trump attack a Muslim) the speech itself is not.

Jedad, are you sure you are talking about Muslims? that sounds like Catholics Priests in Canada. Last year they published a report of all the barbarities they made through years and years. In Peru, below a church, you can see devices for torture in case you "disagree" with the Religion.
@DavidVargas-qk4tz7 жыл бұрын
It's all jokes but hopefully CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc. take notice that's how we feel about the news. Most of us know you aren't Fake News but do the news, forget entertainment.

I'm so glad he didn't pull a Larry Wilmore and just crap on everything. Hasan had some jokes, some serious messages, and an overall informative and positive message for the audience.
@melissasteinmetz59885 жыл бұрын
I just came from Larry Wilmore & I like the guy but his speech was awful. There were so many recycled jokes from old WHCD speeches & they weren't thought out that far at all
@JJVee4275 жыл бұрын
Someone check, is Hasan is still alive in 2019? Regardless of the quality of the jokes, this has to be one of the ballsiest performances ever to be performed in any modern event period. Colbert's pales in comparison to this one. Damn. Wish I had seen this sooner.

@elnu78927 жыл бұрын
Of course the crowd didn't laugh. The people in the room at these dinners are usually the butt of the jokes. Highlighting their hypocrisy is what makes it satisfying for us on the outside.

Brilliant work. But felt the camera stays too long on the guest for reaction making it awkward
@ColoringKaria7 жыл бұрын
they do that every year. Larry Wilmore and Stephen Colbert were the best for crowd reactions.

Wolf Blitzer was pretty classic too, guffawing when Minhaj joked about his dad running for president, e.g. the guy who tries to return used underwear to Costco.
@donibelle7 жыл бұрын
Yes. Though I noticed he didn't laugh when the joke was on him.
@FerFer19587 жыл бұрын
I think that if you are successful on your delivery, like Colbert, Hasan and others, the crowd shouldn't react at all... they are the ones being targeted by the jokes. The camera just shows that reality. Colbert got no reaction at all. Hasan was a bit more intellectual on his jokes at the end and I saw some of the crowd laughing.

Of all the comedians who’ve attended this dinner in the past 10 yrs, Hasan Minaj has been the best IMO. Not only is he funny but he’s SMART! He spoke truth in a way that clueless white peoples could understand. He inspired and made this absolutely memorable. I come back to play it often. Bravo, Bravo! 👏🏼 👏🏼 But, he was sooo good, they haven’t invited him back yet. I hope they do! America needs to hear truth in a way they can understand it!

It's always refreshing to laugh during the whole performance while keeping your brain working on the content and reflecting upon it! Bravo Hassan, that's all what I want to say, just "Bravo".

I would like to say, As damn near the only white boy in my neighborhood for half a mile that wasn't passing through terrified for his life I can honestly say; There's no exaggeration in this. You would be an idiot to imagine that racism doesn't go both ways. You can easily imagine me taking shit growing up. So with that said from the point of view of a white male recently turning 24 I am personally EXTREMELY happy that these conversations are consistently thrown in the faces of those in power. I have more minority friends now than I have ever had "White" friends in my life. I have been more accepted by those who automatically chocked me into the same group as those that were suppressing their success than I have EVER been by "White America" I am a white male, And my views on this issue aligning with those of minorities I can assure you create just as many divides on this side of the fence. DO NOT LET THEIR BULLSHIT GET TO YOU!!! I am Native American, German, Irish, Blah blah blah blah. Keep up your fight. Minorities have ALWAYS done more in my experience than those who oppress them. Do not forget this strife is not pleasant, But it will make your points hit that much harder, and make you that much more driven to change the world for a better. Do not forget. Quick addition: Karma's a bitch.
