TRANSCRIPT:
Hey Team! Squats and deadlifts are 2 fundamental movement patterns we use every day. And while they’re both lower-body exercises that strengthen the legs and glutes, there are a few key differences to keep in mind when executing these movements:
• Deadlifts are more glute- and hamstring-dominant and initiate by squeezing your glutes as you push your hips back to hinge forward, usually while holding or picking up weight.
• For safety, your spine should remain as neutral as possible and your core should be engaged throughout the entire movement.
• Alternatively, squats are a more quad-dominant exercise. They should still initiate with a glute squeeze, but only a slight hip hinge before bending the knees and pushing your hips back like you’re sitting into a chair. Therefore, your knees will generally bend more in a squat than a deadlift.
