Love My Grom, and you hit a bunch of real good points on this one! However, we do 100-200 mile trips occasionally, and it's still super fun. 5-7 hour "Days' on the bike. Most fun bike I've owned in my whole life. Great "2nd" bike, and "mini bike fun" for sure. The power is perfect for what it is. A few mods, get your Tinker On, and it's a bit more fun. The constant talks/conversation with folks wanting to know about them get some getting used too. :) Probs, not a great "First bike". And agree for sure, Packs of Mini Motos are better. The old guy was right too! You can "bone out" through the grass, fields, and parking lots that other bikes won't do easily. I've put 14,000 miles on my Grom in about 18ish months, lots of back roads, Burn outs, Skids, and it "lives in the red line". We use our Rev Limiter as a Horn! :) So Fun! I have never been a "wrench" guy, and have done all the service, mods, and upgrades to my Grom myself. Oil ever 1000-1500 also. Did the Kitaco cover/ Spinner Delete. Got the DHMotor TB cam and Reflash, SO GOOD, Highly Recommended, great bang for your Mini Moto Bucks. :) Header with the stock muffler, The "Radiator tube" intake tube mod, with a UNI Airfilter (40 bux total) Re-Geared - 37t, With Speed Corrector, get the 12 Oclock Labs one for only $75.... LOL. :) and it'll do 60 mph easy now, pulls up the front easier, still tops out around 71mph with a tail wind, downhill, or Draft. :) Cheers Gromers!

Thanks for adding your own review, story and mod list! I like your mods! Couldn't agree more with all of your observations about your grom too. Its crazy I was never a guy who liked to wrench, but when I got my grom, I was just curious and before I knew it I was doing all the maintenance myself and loving it!

Thanks for taking the time to make this very informative video. I have one concern though, and it's about replacing the oil screen and spinner with the paper element filter. While it is much more convenient to access and simply change a paper filter, engines that come from the manufacturer with the screen/spinner oil cleaning system generally have high volume low pressure lubrication systems. Those engines typically have a roller bearing crankshaft and the oil pump is designed to "bathe" the bearings with lots of oil, instead of force feed a thin film of oil between the bearings and crankshaft journals of a plain bearing type engine. So, in essence, small roller bearing engines generally don't produce enough oil pressure to force contaminated oil through the tiny pores of a paper element filter. It might work for a while, but in the long term it could potentially shorten the lifespan of the engine.
@CTGromer
@CTGromer 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you looking out and the good explanation. Fortunately, the Kitaco kit comes with a more capable oil pump to combat the paper element. Mine's had no issues for 4,000 miles.
@Mark-gk1bu

Ruckus is fun too! A grom is more involved because you're shifting through gears manually, and you get a little more power and torque, good luck!

I appreciate the content, watched some of your videos whilst deciding on getting a grom. Found a ‘14 with 1400 miles, did the maintenance you recommended and have been enjoying it since. Is the Yoshi steps ahead of competitor quailty exhaust? Thanks 😎👍🏼

That's awesome man! I'm glad that the content has been beneficial! So are you liking your grom? Yes, in my experience, the Yoshi makes more power than any other exhaust I've ran. When I did that experiment with the Zoom Polygon on my grom, I could feel the difference between the two exhausts, no joke. The seat of the pants was significant.

CT Gromer I’m loving it I’ve just been a bit sad that Michigan has had bad weather so I haven’t been able to ride much. also I appreciate the response on the exhaust question would you recommend buying the TST low exhaust mount and the looped Yoshi Rs2 over the Rs9 high mount? not against Highmount but I also want to remove the long rear fender and keep my rear blinkers. Thanks again

Just purchased my first new car, and first car in general, and chose one that is extremely reliable to get me to work every week. I own a e-bike and used to actually ride it to work, and in the past I used to ride BMX. I've wanted a motorbike for a long time, but wanted something that would just be fun to ride around and would put a smile on my face, as well as something I can customize to suit me, and the Grom seems like it will fit the bill. I just need to get my endorsement and eventually license and I'll definitely be buying one of the 2022 models, they have a oil filter and I love the way the white one is set up and they are very reliable, exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks so much. I am looking to get my first Grom. Admittedly I have shamelessly been a Metropolitan Scooter rider for about 5 years now. A friend gave it to me who could not ride anymore. I have taken it on vacation on a carrier and loved getting around ..... slowly. But, feel in love with the first Grom I saw a few weeks ago. It seems to be a perfect step up for what I use it for. Did you do the drone work?? I'm a licensed sUAS pilot, just wondering.
@CTGromer
@CTGromer 3 жыл бұрын
Yes- did all my own drone work with a Mavic Pro! The Honda Metropolitan is a perfect little ride for in town. A grom would be a very fun step up from a scooter. its gets you into manually shifting through the gears, more speed and way more fun in my opinion.

@@CTGromer I am pretty sure it does, which is why I am being extra careful when it comes to the forecast. The last thing I want is to mess up the new ride so quickly. I want to save that privilege for when I start the stunting phase. Eventually.

to any noobs out there interested in buying a grom. i’ve owned a grom and put 2000 miles on it and just bought a fz6r 600 cc sport bike a few weeks ago. the grom is hands down the more fun bike. even though it doesn’t go fast you will have 10x as much fun on the grom doing wheelies with friends than you will any big bike out there. if you can’t decide what kind of bike to get go with the grom

Love the video! Only thing I can't agree with is the prices. At least here in CA, can't even find one less than $4k used and flogged to death...On a side note, do you think someone might be too old to ride a Grom? I see you said about the Grom groups but seems everyone is early college age. Other question I have is do you feel like there's much vibration or buzz in the handlebars?
@CTGromer

Pricing is insane lately here in California, thats for sure. I'm 34 and there are some guys older than me in our group, there's some vibration in the handlebars, not too much.

ah! this video was super helpful im a newbie into the world of motorcycling, but i have been doing research about getting my first bike :) i would prefer to get a naked bike over a sports bike because i am not ready to face death in a sportsbike lol, plus i have never ridden in my life before! i want a bike that is low in displacement, and a lot of youtube videos recommend the grom for a beginner :) im actually going to the dealership to check the bike out in person and i can't wait! any other advice i should consider?
@CTGromer
@CTGromer 3 жыл бұрын
I think you're well on your way, I totally agree that a naked style bike is a much easier bike to learn on. The grom is a great one, a CB300R is another good choice. My advice would be to ride as much as you can, build your skills, purposely practice fast and low speed turns, and make time to practice low speed maneuvers, emergency braking. Most importantly, keep your head on a swivel, look before you change lanes, and anticipate cars doing the worst thing possible all the time, and have a back up line ready incase they do. Good luck!

I'm old and fat, but I still ride hard, and would love to have a Grom for around-town antics. Obvious mods would start with spring rate improvements, for a 270 pound Boomer; I change the springs on all my bikes.
