@@kieranpearson5096 Oh ok, let's crunch some numbers then. Between 2012-2019, 808 people were injured by foul balls. 2019 reported 28,317 average people attended major league baseball games. So let's round to 28,500, multiply by 7 years = 199,500. So 0.4% have been injured. While my initial number was an exaggeration to make a point, 0.41% still does not qualify as "many" over the course of 7 years with 199,500 attendings altogether in comparison.
@Gigawicket3 жыл бұрын
@@stealth5758 lol you multiplied the attendance of one game by 7 years. Believe it or not, there is more than one game played per year. 0.4% would be a tragically huge number of injuries, almost 1 in 200 people injured by foul balls.

@@Gigawicket Apparently when you Google "How many people attend baseball games a year" answers with "In the 2019 season, the average attendance at the games in Major League Baseball was 28,317" is a tad confusing, at least to me, who has never attended a major league game. But anyway, according to Insider, "In fact, Major League Baseball's total attendance (74.9 million) is actually greater than the other four sports leagues combined (65.9 million)." So whatever that number is against, 0.0011% is a much better number. My initial point still stands. Thanks for pointing that out though!

@@CoercedJab From what I read, the batter approached the area by the stands to see if the little girl was ok. Since the security guard was likely already there and saw him in distress, she held him. Maybe she didn't walk to him in the middle of the field when he first started looking upset, but that doesn't mean her care isn't genuine. Even after he approached her area, she still could've chosen to stay out of it and not comfort him. I absolutely don't think she hugged him for attention or publicity or any reason other than the most obvious and pure reason, which is that the batter was in distress and in serious need of comfort and she cared and willingly comforted him. Batting Helmets were only introduced in 1958, 30 years after a player was killed by a hit by pitch. Even when catchers had been wearing protection for decades before. They need netting all the way to the foul poles, pitchers need helmets and batting helmets should not be falling off while baserunning. Javier Baez was hit in the back of the head last year or this year by a throw from the right fielder to third base, when his helmet came off halfway through a triple. Not to mention softball pitchers of all ages need cricket helmets when the circle is that close.

I would argue that the league has an obligation to protect their paying customers. Especially given the frequency of these accidents, and how simple the solution is to implement. Also, it can be hard go react to a 100mph ball flying straight at your face. Some people's fight of flight kicks in and they freeze up.

BeefSquatch obviously. I’m not blaming her parents, but if you take your kid to a baseball game & sit near the front then you need to be ready to shield your kid from foul balls. Your logic is flawed. Hockey players once didn't not wear masks and helmets. So why did they start wearing masks and helmets? Because getting hit in the face with a puck, a stick, or worst, the blade of your skate will suck big time. The exact same should be applied to all spectator sports. Why should the audience be protected at a stadium? Because it's 2019. It's not 1919. It's the responsibility of the league to make the stadium as safe as they could for the audience.

Chris Calzone Yes the fact that baseball is the only sport where fans consistently get seriously injured makes it one of the last great sports. Genius.

The glass doesn’t go all the way to the top of the arena though, I’ve seen plenty of people getting hit in the face by flying pucks who sit above the glass... so your comment is invalid.

This happened to a cousin of mine. She has a traumatic Brian injury but you wouldn’t know looking at her. She’s a beautiful girl but it definitely changed her life. Happened when she was probably 6-7 and now she’s 16.

I feel bad for the girl It must've been terrifying to get hut by a ball out of no where I also feel bad for the player He was in tears and he knew how bad it was He definitely couldn't sleep after that Especially knowing he has 2 kids of his own
@bobd10775 жыл бұрын
the ball dint come out of nowhere, it came from where they all come from, home plate. Completely avoidable , but MLB wants someone to be killed before they take action
@DragonSlayerofficial5 жыл бұрын
@@bobd1077 yea I don't understand why they haven't put s ton of netting up after all of the incidents Only downside to putting netting up is people can't catch the ball But safety is more important than a ball so they do need to put the netting up ASAP

Out of nowhere? Ummmm it's a base ball game. It wasn't out of nowhere.
@ST3Di035 жыл бұрын
Tom Jackson that ball got there in 1.2 seconds, that one was only going 98 mph, imagine one coming in at 110+ mph it’s incredibly hard even for MLB players to get out of the way of a baseball traveling that fast
@DragonSlayerofficial5 жыл бұрын
I understand that the ball came from home plate but there is no predicting exactly where the ball is gonna go after being hit
@Donato20183 жыл бұрын
I do not understand why people act as if that was something premeditated, an unfotun accident and the player acted in a very human way. If you know about baseball and you are so close to that area, you should know what can happen, be ready protect your children.

I was hit by a foul ball at a game a few years ago. It felt like it was coming at me in slow motion... I leaned to my left and I was so fortunate that it hit my upper leg, and not my knee or worse - my head. I had a crazy bruise for a long time, and I’ll still have dreams about it and wake up in a panic. Honestly, I’m lucky to be alive. It’s weird to think about sometimes. I definitely think there should be netting all around the stadium, I don’t want anyone else to get injured by a foul ball.
