What if it was a guy, who was setting up a 'man cave'? Would that be more acceptable? Honest question: I'm just thinking there are times when one partner bans another from an area of their house, often quite aggressively, including defending the purchase of all kinds of things they don't disclose to their partner. Personally, I wouldn't accept that or be with someone who did that. But I am aware of relationships where men expressly forbid women into areas of their own houses. But then the guy himself, if he's a real person and not a troll, sounds like he needs to go to a couples therapist, and he needs solo therapy too. If he's real, sounds like he has trauma from being raised in an unsafe environment, and it's possible that he's not a good judge of character because of it and is now in a very unhealthy relationship where he's unable to set clear boundaries for himself.

Camgirl (+maybe OCD and definite boundary issues) sounds like the most realistic answer to this weird post. The big boxes, cameras, and secret Amazon account make sense if she was ordering show lights, toys, outfits, etc. If she is a camgirl and she is doing so behind his back, that's a big breach of trust. Some couple's are fine with that sort of arrangement and no judgement. But that only works if both parties know and are cool with it. Also, I've heard of people who never had any privacy growing up who then overcompensate when they're adults by never letting anyone in "their space" but that usually only applies to their 1 bedroom. Which is why it would especially make sense that she might also have OCD if she's taking it to this extreme. If her setup upstairs has "everything in its proper place" and she doesn't want him or anyone "messing it up" to such an extent she refuses to let anyone up there, the least malicious thing that still makes sense would be some form of poorly managed OCD. Either way, she definitely needs some therapy. Preferably couple's therapy so he can get some answers and she can have a professional let her know it's completely unreasonable to disallow her someone from accessing an entire floor of their house. And if she keeps this up, she's likely looking at a divorce sometime in the not so distant future.
@kirbylover54182 жыл бұрын
I agree with the thought on OCD! I’m currently dating someone with OCD and we’ve talked about if we bought a house that he’d want his own room to keep to his cleanliness standards (washing hands before entering, removing shoes/clean feet, etc). He’d like to share a bedroom, and not impose rules on me he knows are extreme in shared spaces, but wants a space that reduces anxiety. The inability to discuss feels like the biggest issue here, tbh.

My immediate thought was definitely that she's a cam girl, that could explain why she doesn't like the topic of money bc if she was she'd be making a TON of money on the side that the boyfriend would have absolutely no idea about. And she said it would upset him to see it which would also make sense if she was a cam girl. What I wouldn't get is why does she need four entire rooms? If her bedroom was secret before she could've just kept it all in there and be way less suspicious.

@MassiveSwordAndCards2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seems like he intentionally left out a lot of obvious details, like not only do we not know what her job is; we don't even know if she works at all. Everything about this screams insecurity from both of them, and deep shame on the part of the girlfriend. Even if it's something as innocent her having safety/privacy issues, refusing to even say what's up there isn't compatible with those explanations. She's doing something she knows people will negatively judge her for, and probably rightfully so. The most bizarre part to me is that she even wanted to be married and share a home to begin with if she needs this much space to be alone all the time. Maybe she's just using him for money; he was a way for her to get her own whole ass home. I mean, four rooms is a LOT. That's as big as my house, which has FIVE people in it.
@Zenikai_2 жыл бұрын
i thought the same thing BUT, he's able to hear her walk from room to room. if you can hear them walk you definitely hear her moaning unless she's extremely quite which most cam girls aren't. i also thought about the rooms as other sets but again, he hears he walk from room to room often. Cam girls don't move rooms unless they're on phones or move the entire set up. (aka moving to a new place) he smells cloths not laundry but cloths. in order for him to smell that she'd need A LOT of clothing like thousands. what else makes the clothing type of smell? why did he specifically say cloths and not laundry? the second thing i thought was a hoarder. This is likely due to him never seeing her take anything back down. meaning the boxes and packaging is still in the room(s). this could also just be him not seeing her do it and it doesn't smell like trash which he says in the posts. my opinion is this is a troll that wanted attention. he probably got too much and backed out when people kept calling him out for not just walking upstairs. This is abusive behaviour. Everyone has their own spaces. Everyone has a room in their house they feel is for them. My wife has the upstairs study (gamer-girl haven) I have the far end of the basement (man cave). However, neither of us exclude the other from our spaces. I don't typically go to her room unless she's in there, and when I do it's to clean the house or whatever. She doesn't typically come into my man cave, and when she does it's to do much the same. Clean, come tell me stuff, snuggle, whatever. It's healthy, I think, to have a private space just for yourself. What isn't healthy is to gaslight and control someone through emotional manipulation. Walking into a room, or an entire floor of a house, shouldn't feel like a violation of trust. Regardless of the reason. This is some cultish behaviour and the beginnings of what I can only assume will be a violent and extremely abusive relationship. Possibly from both sides, though I have no doubt that the woman here will be the instigator. Coming to Reddit was a mistake for this man in only that most people on Reddit don't really understand abusive relationships. Most people don't. He will eventually see this as normal, get used to this weird and quirky behaviour, and then she'll push the line further. Then it'll be an issue again for a year or two, until that new line is the new normal. Then it gets pushed further. Again and again until either he breaks and accepts every restriction and rule she sets down, or snaps and violates them all in one fell swoop. Both would result in violence. This man needs to go upstairs. Not because he needs to see what's up there, but because to do otherwise is to doom his relationship.

This! It made me mad when he’s like “I don’t want to step on her boundaries” Um, sir, no…. She stomped all over yours by claiming the majority of your house as her own and forbidding you from going in there. That rationale to me seems too stupid to be real, but if it is real this guy is a moron. My condo is large and has 2 big bedrooms, so I turned the second into like a game room/office/we joke that it’s my second closet, and our shared bedroom is my bfs sanctuary, but I would never think to tell him “don’t go in there” the only time I’ve ever banned him or our dogs from that room is when I’m giving a training for work, which I think is a reasonable request, and it’s still just a request. He’s popped his head in a couple times to bring me food or a drink and I just quietly thank him, I don’t lose my mind about him “invading my space” because all of the house is shared space, we just so happened to kind of divide it But hey what do we know, you and I sound like normal healthy functional adults lol

If it was extreme enough, she may feel a compulsion to continue it even though she doesn't need to. Maybe she feels like it's all she can do to earn enough money now and she's stuck. Or she has trauma from her younger years and hoards something up there. Maybe there was some kind of instability that has caused her to hoard clothing, or towels, food, etc. Either way, it feels like there is some kind of trauma response going on to cause something like this. I want to believe this is a true story, especially since what kind of person would create a fake post and then disappear after 5 replies. But it's awfully convenient that out of all the things she accidentally ordered from shared account it was a camera. Not a huge, horse-shaped dildo or costumes if she is a cam-girl, not 20 different shirts if she is hoarding clothes, not some kind of furniture, if she is refurnishing the house. And we have no idea if that was a security camera or a tripod. I feel like the mystery would have been solved if she accidentally ordered anything else, to the point that making a Reddit post asking about it wouldn't make any sense, but out of all the possible things, it was something that keeps the solution ambiguous.

The kind of person who doesn’t have a plan as to where they wanna take this story, and knows that realistically any serious development will either ruin the mystery or completely expose them for being fake. It’s much easier to only release a little bit of info where there’s just not enough to go off of to make any serious conclusions, and then disappear leaving people to wonder. If it had been real I would have expected OP to be a lot more receptive to advice they were given, and maybe work on developing a solution that works for them based off of that, instead of just shutting everyone down harshly and leaving it there. Pretty much all of their responses are just them trying to avoid making any progress on the situation by coming up with excuses to avoid simple solutions so they don’t have to progress the story at all.

I think just saying "fake" for every reddit story is kinda boring. Of course there's a large chance that it's fake, but everyone who's been on the internet should already know that.

Idk, this is one of the more plausible ones to me. Ofc it could be fake, but you could say that about most things online. Outside of misinformation or other harmful hoaxes, I don’t think there’s much point in just going“fake.” Especially if you don’t really provide something to back it up. (Not hating, just offering something to think about) Best case: you possibly help someone. If nothing else, you exercised your brain and possibly you help someone who actually runs into a similar situation in the future. (This being about a plausible story I mean. I don’t mean you shouldn’t be critical, you should. If you do come across something that is inconsistent or a red flag- you should point it out and question it)

@hiimcrazyfordrwho2 жыл бұрын
To me, it sounds like she's a girl with extreme trauma, especially around privacy. It sounds like someone prevented her from having privacy and so she slingshotted the other way to insist on having privacy in an extreme way. The story I weave from the banned topics is that her father abused her in her teen years. He didn't let her have privacy or her own things. He killed her pet or she was abused at the thought of wanting one. With him out of the picture, the trauma response took over. She wouldn't let her privacy be taken again and so she wanted her space to be hers without judgement or intrusion. She won't talk about some things because they remind her of trauma, or possibly the reaction is a trauma response itself. To me, this best ties the upstairs and the taboo topics than the other theories. And OP didn't share any more because their private life was none of our business.

Honestly this reminds me of a friend I had who responded like this to some childhood trauma, not to this extent, but still. Just being able to have absolute control over certain possessions or areas seems like a not totally uncommon response to trauma, and if that is the case, it would probably be healthier for him to talk to her about that, like trying to get her professional help so it doesn't keep spreading to an unhealthy degree. May have started with certain toys or clothes or something, expanding to her bedroom as a teenager then to a whole floor in her new home and maybe it could grow to where she would obsessively need to control every aspect of their relationship and home. Seems most likely to me if this is real.

I was sitting through most of this video going "cam girl cam girl cam girl" in my head. Possibly with some sexual abuse in her past thrown in there to explain why she's cagey about her dad and pets. But I think Cue's theory about her just having some serious issues when it comes to privacy and liking to have space to herself is the more likely option. I don't think it's healthy at all for u/Howwwwwwwwwww to be out and out banned from not one but four rooms in their own home. I also think it's possible that u/Howwwwwwwwwww was setting up for an ARG but got bored or frustrated with the project and abandoned it. This really feels like too perfect of a set up for an internet mystery to be true. The thing that sticks out to me is the boxes of stuff from amazon. I don't think the normal use of four rooms explains many large amazon packages, even in a new house. I don't think amazon is really the right place to be buying... equipment... for com girling, but I'm also not an expert, and she might also be choosing to order from amazon in order to somewhat disguise what she's buying. I'd love to know more about the size and frequency of said packages, but alas, I'll just have to wonder forever.

I reckon she’s got a kid up there. Probably one that she had before she met him, possibly from abuse (from a family member?) as a teenager. The kid’s old enough to have been brainwashed not to make a sound. Amazon parcels are food, clothing, a few games and toys that don’t make noise. She spends half the day up there because she’s home-schooling and because she wants to spend time with her kid. Cameras are to keep an eye on the kid when she’s downstairs (are they the type that you can watch on your phone?). That, or I’ve spent too long in the social work field. Or read too much Virginia Andrews as a teenager.

I personally think that based on her doing the same thing with her previous bedroom that she just has some severe privacy and control issues where she feels she needs to have her own safe space where nobody is allowed but her. Edit: To add to this having thought about it further. I think the fiancée seems to have serious issues with control in general and gets off on the control she has over OP. OP is like a broken record in the replies saying how he "doesn't want to upset her", his fiancée knows she can put this emotional hold over him and literally create a physical barrier that he won't cross because even if OP won't admit it it sounds like he's afraid of her. I think it's the same thing with the topics she won't talk about, it's not necessarily cos she's uncomfortable with those topics as much as it is that she knows she can shut down any conversation with him. She can control what he talks about and even where he goes in there home. She's a huge control freak and OP has such a passive nature that he unintentionally enabled this behaviour and allowed it to get to this point. I still stand by that she also has privacy issues and wants a personal private safe space just for her especially seeing as she did this before with her previous bedroom. But I do think there's some serious control issues at play here. The fact that she decided to ban him from the entire upstairs and not just one room almost seems like she's seeing how big a boundary she can create and how much she can control him.

I’m not on Reddit but this is interesting. There’s red flags everywhere and the OP even admitted he’s not experienced in relationships and would just “wing it”, but there’s also something called intuition and common sense. My intuition in this case would tell me that I needed to get out of the relationship immediately if my partner wasn’t going to come forward about their secret because they could be doing ANYTHING, even illegal or dangerous activities. I wouldn’t take that risk. I’d always be sleeping with one eye open and I couldn’t live like that. This isn’t how relationships built on “trust” is supposed to be. He’s mentioned “breaking her trust” when it’s clear that neither of them trust each other. Furthermore it seems that the OP isn’t interested in truly seeking help and is just enjoying all the attention his post was getting, otherwise he would’ve sought help outside of the internet. People really need to get off their devices and be in the real world.

abuse and gaslighting twists your brain in weird ways. It wears you down incrementally and skews your frame of reference of what's reasonable and it takes getting out of it to be able to really comprehend how fucked up things were. A lot of what he's saying is probably parroting conversations with her and she's convinced him he's the one in the wrong, that he's the problem. The fact he apologized to people for his kneejerk reactions not wanting to hear what needed to be done I think is a sign he was being genuine in needing help, not just farming attention. As a survivor, I recognize the patterns of making excuses and rationalizing away that things are okay when they're not. The OP also said he grew up around meth making so I can't imagine his home life was an example of what a healthy relationship looks like. People assume what they experience growing up is normal, and OP is at an age where he's starting to be exposed to it maybe not being normal after all.

My theory, nothing too weird is going on upstairs. Both he and his fiancée are INSANELY socially awkward and on the spectrum. I'm not joking. A brief story. I once worked with a guy. Super fat and weird. He was 45. He was also obviously on the spectrum. He was engaged to a 23 year old. Super weird and gross right? Well...she was fat and weird and on the spectrum as well. It wasn't really weird that they were together because both were super f'ing awkward and strange. After you see them together you're like "oh...okay that makes sense" One day when talking to him we find out he lives with his fiancée and her family. AND her parents refuse to let him sleep in her room. You know what his "room" was? Under the dining room table. He slept under there. It was completely normal to him. Didn't seem weird at all. When we started laughing we saw that he was confused and it was one of those situations where everyone quickly stopped laughing and changed the subject because we all at the same time had the thought "oh crap he doesn't realize that's weird.". When we hear stories on we automatically copy + paste some generic normal well adjusted person as a place holder for them in our minds. Every cheating story involves beautiful people and every story where some guy did something cool the dude in our minds are clean cut and shaved. Maybe it has something to do with how used to seeing these types of people on social media. But the reality is that it's far more likely that these people in these stories are Walmart people that ride Greyhound busses because they never were able to get a drivers license. Why do I say this? Because the "normal" and "beautiful" people I mentioned before have real life people to show off to and real life people to go to with their issues. Most reddit users don't even post. The very fact this dude is going online to ask a question like this is proof that he doesn't have friends and family to lean on for this insane problem. My theory then, he and his girl are very socially awkward. Neither have many friends. Given the "quirks" his girl has she very likely has some level of autism. In addition the fact he grew up around meth and she had a troubled childhood just compounds their issues to socialize. In addition this Howwwww guy doesn't even see him or his girl as weird at all. He sees themselves as completely normal as anyone else. He mentioned the camgirl thing being a possibility but if I were a betting man she isn't the type any dude would pay for that sort of thing. And the clueless sweet guy that OP is doesn't even realize it. So what does she have up there? Likely just normal stuff. Maybe a little weird like a room full of porcelain unicorns. And maybe a room is filled to the brim with trash. Maybe she just keeps buying stuff she doesn't need and is filling the rooms. But nothing like sex work or corpses or stuff like that. For her it's probably her autist safe space of sorts.

He asks for help but then when real solid advice is given he just defaults to "i DoN't WaNt tO bReAk hEr tRuSt", which is a total bullshit and weak ass excuse. This guy needs to be renamed "Door Mat". This also isn't asked, where does he sleep? Do they have their bed room downstairs and just empty rooms upstairs? Is there a bathroom down stairs too?

@sunnyandthechlo2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking she had someone else living up there, especially about the laundry-ish smell. Like how other people's homes just have that certain smell. And the amazon account she's using is that person's, buying things they need. I even thought she could have had a kid in her teens, but I really doubt a kid could stay that quiet. And before the cam girl thing was mentioned I thought of that too. The money she doesn't want to talk about could be coming from that job, maybe she started it in her teens, also leading to that topic being closed off. Not sure why she needs 4 rooms for that though. And third, she has some sort of trauma leading her to feel like she needs a safe space. In that case, she definitely needs to talk to a therapist because it spread to the whole upstairs instead of just 1 room, and she defends it instead of just telling him she'd rather have 1 space to be alone if she needs it.

Based on what OP said, I think it's possible his wife might be a victim of some abuse or unaddressed trauma. She has sensitive topics she completely refuses to talk about which relate to childhood or family such as her experiences during her mid-teens, pets, and money. She also has a bad relationship with both her parents. The fact that she refused to let anyone enter her room from the age of 18 leads me to believe that enforcing an absolute safe space where nobody else is allowed, not even close loved ones, could be a coping mechanism or trauma response. Since moving into a new home with OP, the upstairs floor of their house might serve as the new safe space. As for the Amazon purchases, that could be totally benign - maybe they're just normal things and opening a second account is an extension of her desire for privacy. It's hard to tell exactly what it could be since we hear very little from OP about what his wife is actually like outside her issues. It's possible she's doing something she wasn't want OP to know about, whether it's camgirling or hoarding or something else. I definitely doubt it's drugs though. In regards to the idea of just marching upstairs and seeing what's going on, I agree with OP in that it will only make things worse. It won't snap her out of it, it'll just make things worse. But OP does take a very passive attitude towards this when she's being absolutely unreasonable and treating him poorly. He seems very out of his depth and refusing to assert himself out of fear about her reaction, which is a very toxic relationship dynamic.

theory: OP actually IS the girlfriend. she went on reddit thinking she could somehow drum up support against her boyfriend who selfishly wants to enter the top floor of their house, where she does all her camgirl stuff. the reason i think OP is actually her is the weird "she's a full person even with her flaws" thing, which struck me as deeply strange phrasing for anyone in OP's position. it's not something a partner would say! the partner would be like "well she's flawed but i do love her". that sentence to me REEKS of her using her own bizarre, insane justification that doesn't really fit the scenario. at the end, someone finally pegs that the biggest thing she's currently hiding from her husband is camgirling, she admits that's plausible, and then vanishes forever. it's also just possible that he really is this dumb and beaten down and he confronted her at the end about the camgirl thing and that was correct and he just never came back. but that one line, and the way he keeps coming back to the same statement of "not wanting to start out the marriage breaking her trust". like... either he's secretly her, or he's repeating the insane shit she keeps saying to justify her weird abuse. either way, i do not buy for a second that either of those key sentences are something the husband generated on his own. *edit: also the smell of clean fresh cloth is definitely coming from Febreze air freshener. they literally have this smell, i've used it. she's constantly febreezing everything because her camgirl job... uh... generates its own... workplace biohazards **edit again: i also think another person's theory that she's in an MLM and is hiding it from him is possible, but i'm still mostly on the camgirl train, and i still suspect that either way, she's the actual author of the post and all the hostility to commenters is coming from her being upset that the internet didn't validate her craziness the way the people around her who's she's battered into submission have all gotten used to doing. then, a commenter finally pins that she's hiding the camgirl thing, she gives that person a Reasonable Sounding Reply to discourage thinking about this further, and vanishes from reddit forever

I think what seems to be the obvious elephant in the room (or rather, in the entire upstairs) is that u/How is a victim of emotional domestic abuse by a controlling partner who suffers from her own trauma. Kelsey’s triggers not only demonstrate her likely history of being a victim of abuse but also illustrate her willingness to manipulate u/How into feeding into her own trauma. Based on u/How’s lack of discussion regarding reaching out to friends or family around him about this issue, he has likely been completely isolated by his abuser over the past 4 years. His mistaken mindset that they “have an extremely close and open relationship,” while not being able to recognize how severely one-sided the “sharing” of their personal history is, indicates the typical “brainwashing” from which victims of spousal or domestic abuse typically suffer. Additionally, the mere idea of intruding upon their shared space -or more accurately, the mere idea of disobeying Kelsey- causes u/How to lash out angrily as a defense mechanism to justify his passiveness to himself. Sure, the mystery of what is being hidden is fun to ponder. But it’s no mystery how severely isolated, manipulated, and abused u/How truly is.

it sounds like she had some childhood abuse that made her extremely private to the point of pathology or she's doing some kind of sex stuff that she considers even more private than cam girl stuff, likely something related to engaging with how she was hurt, that she just can't let this guy in on. Something worth noting is the fact that the story he tells about jer old bedroom sort of feels like its implying that she was still living with her parents up until they got a house. Meaning, if shes had this deep rooted trauma about keeping a space to herself and having her privacy but has never had a chance to live on her own she may be taking advantage of the fact that this is technically half HER house to finally feel a sense of independence. Of course, this still is a very maladaptive thing and she needs to learn that she has to let people in if she wants to have a healthy relationship, but i think it makes the story seem a bit more legit

I did some investigating on a possible novel written about a woman who forbids her husband to go upstairs. I asked ChatGPT and it said a book written in 2021 by someone named J.E. o’Connor called “the House on the Cliff” was a psychological thriller about a wife’s mysterious restrictions on her husband. I could find NO RECORD of this author or this particular book, aside for other books with the same title, written long ago. I do think it’s possible that this was an author writing a novel during Covid and wanted to use the hive mind for ideas.
