I love that podcast. Thanks for all the good information. The one thing that unsettles me, is that all problems come back, when pausing the probiotics. That means to me that they don't bring total and real healing, but just form a shield.

You inspire me to become better! I’m just starting on my journey to being healthy. This morning I made my 5th batch of L Rueteri cultured dairy yogurt. I’m starting to feel more alive, more alert, & happy. I suffer from depression, but I’m coming out of it, & never to return. I’m ready now to add one more thing, & that will be Kefir. When I fell comfortable with that I want to slowly add several other things, fermented veggies, kombucha,& sourdough bread. Down the road a bit I want to do cultured butter and other cheeses etc. But one step at a time. 😂

I’m starting vegie ferments and am cooking em w eggs. V yumm. I love kefir now but started by rubbing it on my hands then mouth then one day mouth and nose. I felt stronger but it’s sooo sour so only licks but oneday I got food poisoning tasting 6 day old meat I was cooking up trying to pinch Pennie’s Suddenly felt sharp pain in gut that was getting worse. I poured kefir into glass and water and chugged. Almost lost consciousness but when came back it was going away. Then so fatigued. Extreme. But since then I understood what kefir and fermented foods are for. I had some second ferm kefir today. Still so sour but I’m eating it and loving it😅

This is good information. I have really been hitting the fermented foods recently and found I was having very loose stools and didn't know if this was normal or healthy. It sounds like it is. I don't know if it's my imagination or not but I actually feel a bit less bloated also.

Are raw or cooked veggies a better pre biotic !? I only ask because I thought veggies(raw) especially are hard on our digestive system ! Thanks 🙏
@CulturedFoodLife
@CulturedFoodLife 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Most prebiotics are higher in raw foods. But too much raw food can be hard on the digestive system and there are a lot of benefits in eating cooked foods as well. We try to balance it.

I agree with Donna. If your digestion/gut is really damaged (like mine) then cooked is easier to digest. A year ago I couldn’t eat a salad as I couldn’t process it; made me super constipated. I can handle it now, but only every other day.

Thank you for all the helpful information! I have IBS, and really want to try to heal my gut, but it seems I cannot handle fermented foods. I stopped making kefir because I am sensitive to dairy, but I make sourdough and sauerkraut and kombucha. But the smallest amount of these (except for the bread ) give me terrible gas, and I have been this way for quite some time. Any suggestions?
@goolash9991

I was worse than that. If I had 1 teaspoon of kefir I broke out in intensely itchy hives. I had leaky gut and SIBO. You most likely do, too. The GAPS intro diet healed and sealed my gut; eating beans everyday also helped get my bowels moving, and Dr. Davis’ SIBO yogurt is healing my SIBO. Now I can drink a cup and a half of kefir with zero reaction, hallelujah! Don’t give up. I’ve been struggling almost 2 years but am finally getting better with fermented foods. I’m doing it all: homemade kombucha, kefir, SIBO yogurt, beet kvass, kefir sodas, cultured vegetables. Going for the nuclear option! I WILL be healthy again!!!!

I tried to Culture my first sourdough starter, but I changed the feeding ratio at a time and it got all watery on top... I think I starved it :( . The thing I don‘t understand with sourdough, is the heating part. So all cultures die when they come in contact with too much heat but what makes sourdough special to be able to handle the heat? Or, is the important part of sourdough only to make the nutrients in the flour bioavailable and act as a rising agent to omit yeast? I already said it before, but say it again: I Love Your Podcasts!! Of course I am missing your videos where you show us things, but the podcasts are great!
@CulturedFoodLife
@CulturedFoodLife 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Martina, if it got water on top this is ok! This called the hooch and just means it was time to feed it again. happens often with sourdough. Sourdough is the process of breaking down the grains during fermentation and making them more nutrient dense and easier to digest. However sourdough is not a probiotic food. The probiotics wont survive heat. So while the bread is fermented you get other benefits from it not probiotics. hope this helps!

Yes Donna I meant chia seeds, sorry that's what happens when I write in a hurry. The idea I got from a drink I bought, called Mama Chia , I thought it was in kombucha but as far as I can see there isn't any in it all. However I found a recipe on KZbin where they put one tablespoon of chia gel in 8 ounces of kombucha. But I wanted to know if chia seeds are good for you? I am hoping you can guide me here.

Hi Darla, "Good for you" is a loaded sentence. It's more a matter of opinion in a lot of ways. I do love chia seeds though and add them to my kefir often!

Is there any way to get the full benefit of kefir without all the milk fat?
@joannathesinger770
@joannathesinger770 4 жыл бұрын
Yes...use skim milk...but why would you want to?!? Cream is a healthy fat, and healthy fats are essential for brain health!!! By eating low fat, you are essentially starving not only your brain but the fats the body MUST make all its hormones from, particularly sex hormones.. Testosterone is made from the fats consumed in the diet.

I was listening to your podcast and I was wondering were you having issues before you started cultured foods? I am pretty healthy, i eat as clean and healthy as i can .. never done fermented foods except sauerkraut now an again. SO im wondering if I start doing fermented /cultured foods if I don't do it every day will i get sick?

Hi Cindy, Yes me and my family had some healing to do which is what led us to cultured foods. But even those that seem fairly healthy i recommend starting slower. I had a personal trainer who was in excellent shape and ate fairly clean and he still had a mini detox reaction. If you've never consumed probiotic foods before then introducing them can still cause a detox/healing crisis it's just different for everyone. I'm not a doctor so keep this in mind. But these foods are powerful and wonderful! www.culturedfoodlife.com/the-healing-crisis-and-cultured-foods/

@@CulturedFoodLife thank you .. I also was wondering i want to make whey soda and was listing to several people but they all just store juice.. i dont want to do that , would rather use fresh fruit. with no sugar but maybe honey? any suggestions for that?
@CulturedFoodLife
@CulturedFoodLife 5 жыл бұрын
@@cindyshain3430 Hi Cindy, I highly recommend using store bough juice. This is because fresh juice has added enzymes and can be harder to predict and become overly fizzy and not as flavorful when making kefir soda. Fermentation will greatly reduce the sugars in the juice and you'll really love it. You can use more fresh fruit or honey with kombucha as you only need a small amount to do a 2nd ferment. But with the kefir soda you need a larger amount of juice so using fresh juice or fresh fruit would be too much.
