Angelina Mejia Sameeee! My psych research methods professor said the same thing!
@Wexexx4 жыл бұрын
I mean, I'd take it as far as saying it isn't even a correlation (or well, more like a correlation of 0). In that case, since my cancer was cured and I was also breathing air therefore air must be a cure of cancer. I also ate food, drank water, wore clothes, sat in my sofa, watched movies, puked, ate morphine and so on. The correlation between these would be "0", which means it is not correlated at all. Even just putting "correlation" will give these lunatics something to go on about, "oh so you're saying they are correlated in some way". No, be more brutal and say that there is absolutely no correlation at all because then they're too stupid to even look up what a correlation is, and they run out of arguments. Edit: I was too hyped writing the comment. Fixed some math typos.

Hey Dr. Mike, Historian here. While "pirates" are all throughout history from the Ancient Greeks to current day, scurvy had a main focus around 200-300 years ago during the height of intercontinental maritime travel and became less prominent when Navy rations started to include citrus that helped cure the effects of scurvy. Great video, btw, keep up the great work! Also happy birthday, we share the same birthday!

Happy Birthday! To add on to this, I happen to be Siberian Yupik, from an island in the Bering Sea. I've heard so many stories regarding my ancestors helping "sailors," "possible pirates," & "explorers" like Captain Cook for instance in that they landed at our island in desperate need of fresh water & any plants that would help in their mineral/vitamin deficiencies. As a historian, I'm curious if you know much about the various types of Eskimos, how we've managed to thrive in such climates for thousands of years. For reference, I come from St. Lawrence island. As I'm only half, I'm also curious on my quarter of genetics coming from Sweden & how my father was able to date us back to a specific group of Vikings-what's your thoughts on whether or not they suffered from scurvy having been renowned for raiding/conquering whilst exploring the seas? I apologize unreservedly for this comment being so long, but as you see, I'm a very curious person. Thanks for sharing your thoughts & have a great day today!

The whole “Don't bother with radiotherapy! Just eat X and it’ll clear it right up!” thing really bothers me. Eating tomatoes, or broccoli, or carrots didn’t save my dad when he had cancer. Doctors did. Nurses did. Radiologists did. The research, medicine and science behind his procedures did. My dad would be dead if he’d listened to even one of the people who told him, even when he was at his sickest and weakest, to just eat more greens. Or drink tomato juice. They meant well. I know they did. But just like those who spread anti-vax ideas, I worry that vulnerable people will listen to them. That they’ll forgo seeing a doctor, and just listen to bullshit advice. That they’ll book healing trips where they'll try and meditate themselves better, or drink nothing but tomato juice, or eat broccoli.

My mother had immunotherapy and went completely vegan and drank carrot Juice everyday and it’s saved her life! So I don’t like when people make little of the reason I wasn’t burying my mother at 16! Everyone is narrow minded to what doctors say yes they are educated but there’s always more out there to learn and maybe big money making drug companies don’t want people to think alternative therapies work! Piracy has been around in some form for as long as we've had seafaring, really. There's still piracy today even, most famously in Somalia. 800 years ago, though, the most prominent pirates probably would have been the vikings. The golden age of piracy, which is what we typically think of when we think of pirates, was early 1700s.
@mennograafmans15954 жыл бұрын
The golden age was indeed mostly in the Caribean around 1650 to 1720. But pirates have been around from the first sea-faring traders and military. Julius Caesar was famously captured by pirates. Also, one of the most famous pirates, Bartholomew Roberts was mostly active around the west-african coast and Ching Shih was a Chinese female pirate that had an army of thousands of pirates following here. But the pirates he most likely referred to were the Dutch, French, Spanish and British pirates in the Carribean around 1700, so almost 500 years from what he said.
@mikolajwitkowski80934 жыл бұрын
Pirates existed since the beginning of sailing, yes, we had a lot of pirates 800 years ago. The same as 2000 years ago or any other number. However, I don't know why he would connect scurvy to pirates.... it's just sailors.
@mennograafmans15954 жыл бұрын
@@mikolajwitkowski8093 Your average sailor had a better diet than a pirate. So scurvy was more common on pirate ships that undertook long voyages than merchantships or military ships on long voyages. Pirates that stayed close to shore didn't suffer nearly as much because of their supply of fresh fruit. It were those that went out sailing for weeks where scurvy caused problems.

When people say that eating carrots improves your eye sight, I don’t see a difference.
@j.p.14925 жыл бұрын
Carrots are a good source of vitamin A, which your eyes need to function properly. If you don't get enough vit A, your vision may become worse or development of the eyes (in children) might be less good. However, eating excess amount of vit A does not improve your vision, and your body just gets rid of it.

when my sister was like 5-6 years old our mother started making us fresh fruit juice everyday and bc my sister liked carrots she would use mainly carrots in the juice. after like 2-3 months my mom realized that my sister started looking a little more tan and just a bit orange. we didn't think any of it so we just dismissed it. a month later, her palms and the soles of her feet started turning YELLOW and she looked literally like trump 😂 we rushed the the hospital etc. they did blood tests and the doctor asked, "how many carrots does she eat in a day?" then we learned that she also eats like a huge bowl of shredded carrot at school and asks our housekeeper to make her a big jug of carrot juice EVERYDAY. so it was like literally a kg of carrots she ate, everyday. she wasn't allowed more than a glass of juice for months to say the least 😂😂
