With all the boxes you had to go through, I am glad that there were some that contained the "good stuff" There were no large silver bars, but that box still held a decent amount of valuable items. It was great to see Melissa helping with the sorting of the valuables, but the saddest part of the video for me was the removal of Hans saying, "I'm home, Honey" at the end of the intro. That was my favorite part of the intro.

@April Fool.....thank goodness ! the intro was changed ! Yes, Hans was a nice guy - and he helped Alex and the family a tremendous amount......but to be honest - I never understood the appeal of that guy...( ??? ). When Hans and Alex were together - - it was like "dad joke central" - - some people find that stuff "endearing" ....but some ( like me ) find it mostly annoying. I tune into this channel to see the discoveries and try to learn about unique items. It is hard enough to sit through Alex's dad jokes and ridiculous "ancedotes"....... the whole Hans thing has run it's course.

He'll get used to it. It frees his hands and saves time. It's best to keep the camera 3 ft from anything, and then zoom in, if need be. He could just edit still frames and use his voice, over.. later on. He has a lot of stuff to sort through and show us so, I can be patient. Even if I, too, feel a little seasick... 🙈
@Cantfi2 жыл бұрын
@@AnnieWarbux There is no need for him to "get used to it". That's not the style of videos he does, and not what he prefers. He's said it time and time again. Saving Time Absolutely IS a Factor!! 😳Hello!? Doing things 1-handed because he's filming isn't exactly Efficient. He doesn't need to do "a bunch" of editing. He could narrate a series of still shots, for all I care. Using the tripod while he sorts (with or without us) can help greatly in cataloging stuff, sharing photos of select items with others, getting rare items identified, especially when it's long distance.. photographers can understand this process! HI Alex, silverplate silverware sells well in large lots for art projects. The lots can be all forks or all spoons or mixed lots with serve ware too. Sell as is, don't clean. By the by, Barkeeper's Friend is a powder cleanser in a can, like Comet, that takes oxidation off silver and discoloration off stainless. Best of all it is non toxic and inexpensive. Absolutely amazing for your stainless pots and pans and faucets. It can be made into a paste to take rust off clothing too
@Janmification2 жыл бұрын
With respect Diane. Barkeepers Friend is an excellent product, but it is abrasive. With silver, and silver plate, it will leave scratch marks on stuff. Goddards silver foam is much kinder to silver, and plate. Still removes tarnish, but doesn’t scratch. Very good for intricate patterns on silver.

A silver ‘foam’ type product will still remove a tiny amount of silver, by the rubbing action, but not as much as by other methods. And, whilst the hot water, piece of aluminium foil, and washing soda trick is good, it can leave a satiny sheen, rather than a high shine.

Always good to see the money and the precious metals that you find! That particular box yielded some nice items! I understand what you say about scrapping out silver, since you can sell it quicker for the silver value. It’s just a shame to see a silverware set being scrapped. There are those of us who still polish silver and use it for what it was intended for. But yeah, I get that there are not enough of us to warrant trying to sell to a collector. You can soak it (for 15 to 20 minutes) in a sink lined with foil and a 1/2 to 3/4 C of Tide dry laundry detergent and hot water and covered with a layer of foil on top. Rinse and wipe dry with a white cotton cloth. Rub and buff as you wipe.. WALLA clean and shiny. An old guy taught me that. I love silver anything.

Anything acidic, like saliva, salad dressing, or tomato sauce will pick up the taste of silver. Yuck! When I got married, one of my mother's friends wanted to buy me some place settings of my silver pattern, but I hadn't registered one. I told her I didn't want silver, so she bought me stainless for 8. She ran an antique shop btw, so that was my early training in good old stuff. Yes, I think of her whenever I use that set.
