When I was a little girl my grandmother would let me sit and look at the pretty things she kept in a large keepsake/ jewelry box, there were all sorts of trinkets, one day I was SO EXCITED to find a container of cool “ Rocks”. Turned out to be her gallstones from the surgery she had. 🥴🤣😱

Hi, the silver badge with "service rendered"is nor a nurse's badge. It is a badge given to wounded military personnel during WW1. It was meant to be worn on civilian clothing to show the person had served. The number on the back can be researched and will give name, rank and unit and reason for dicharge. Might be worth a look.

Would really be great if you could do a video with closeups of jewelry, etc. going to auction. Kastner gives very little in way of a description. It would be nice if they had a ruler in the picture so you have a sense of size. And I’m sure you would make more money. I was very disappointed in the last 3 pieces I bought from them and am not going to bid on anything unless I’ve seen it in a video and you’ve talked about it. Here’s hoping for a successful sale.

Dont know if you will see this Alex? Yes, gold does tarnish. I nearly tossed out some large gold cuff links as gold plate, as they had a darker tinge aroung the edge. They were in fact, 14k solid heavy gold. Had been sitting a very long time. I guess the aloy caused the tarnish. I had them made into nice dog tags for my sons...Also, rings with no stamp, is due to sizing or repair in a lot of cases 😊

Thar was fascinating! These people were interested in so many things! And seemed to have enough of an income to indulge themselves modestly . It seems they collected what appealed to them in the moment- and tried to order them in a way that only made sense to them lol 😆 Loved that little carved set Alex thought might be ivory! The Rouge if applied right -was still not a "natural " look, but was a style that endured many years. Melissa you are a patient woman! You do well as an assist to Alex, and each revealing with the two of you the camera work goes smoother! And Alex I compliment you on your learning to share a bit more. You are a man with a system and a preference for things being done to your sense of order - it's lovely that you have Melissa and the kids share in these discoveries more! So many of us enjoy being allowed to follow your whole family thru your adventures ! Thank you all!

Did you pick up the “vibe” Alex seemed a bit stressed or maybe just exhausted in this video. He’s such a good man, and I’m sure he would never hurt anyone especially his family on purpose. When he said “Melissa, move your hand” it just didn’t sound like his usual self (to me) Ge wasn’t mean, just picked up something was not quite right today. I’m sure he’s exhausted from the cleaning out of this home. I hope that’s all it is. OR….. maybe I’m tired and reading into things not really there? Either way, they deserve a break after all this work. And, I agree with you Melissa seems far more comfortable on camera and assisting Alex on these videos. Looking forward to the next one!!!

Love that little makeup compact! Those are very collectible. They would usually be multi purpose, so for lips and cheeks. I’m guessing it’s from before WW2 or immediately post ww2 due to it being metal. Makeup came in cardboard packaging during the war because they needed the metal for the war effort. These are significant parts of history, but are often overlooked because it’s “just makeup”. There are lot of collectors of vintage and antique makeup. Lisa Eldridge here on youtube has a significant collection and has made a few videos on makeup history

@13Nagash132 жыл бұрын
@@GuyWithTheDogs as photocopies, they would be considered counterfeit, and thus not just worth zero, but less than the paper they are printed on as it is illegal. Even fake money used in movies has to be clearly(big enough to see when holding but doesn't show up on camera) marked as fake, to prevent it from being illegal counterfeit. Alex can ask a bank to dispose of it, or a police station, or burn it if he is really sure it is fake. Personally, I would go to my bank, tell them I was cleaning out bins from an estate sale, and request they check some potential fake foreign currency. Let them verify its fake.

Hello!…I don’t often get to comment..but you brought back a good memory…about 34 years ago I work at a CCRC..Continuing Care Retirement Community…it’s a place where retirees buy an apartment and on the other side was an assisted living and nursing home…anyway..a Russian envoy came to see us..there were about ten gentleman.. They were invited to stay and have dinner with us ..even though the residents had their own kitchens..included in the cost of the apartment they could have one meal a day in the main dining room…I worked as hostess/head waitress..me and another girl were responsible for their table that night..at dinners end one of the gentleman gave me his lapel pin for taking care of them throughout the night…my boss came up to me and pulled me a side…she told me about such a custom…and then went on to tell me I must return the gesture…I knew they were leaving soon..I ran to my locker..I went through everything…even my purse..I wanted to give him something to say thank you…just as I was leaving the Locker room…empty handed..I checked myself in the mirror ..I realized my hair pin…it was silver with black onyx…I paid a lot for it and didn’t where to often because of that…I felt kind of silly handing a man my hair pin as a thank you..but he was so kind…through the interpreter…he told me his ..I think he said 13 years old daughter back in Russia would Love it so…that her hair was way past her hips…this was just after the Wall had fallen..couple years…he was so excited..I was so happy that I hadn’t embarrassed him with a girly gift..just the opposite…I wonder if she still has it…I still have the lapel pin…and it seemed as though I saved my boss from embarrassment…she went from a frown to smile at me…
