As a professional I bought 2 of the bi colours. I find it super useful to have a relatively powerful light I can kind of throw anywhere with just a smaller v-mount battery. Another stellar review! I'm considering one of these two lights for a quick "run and gun" battery powered key light solution to grab video/photos of clothing in our vintage clothing store. Couple of questions: 1) would the 60x with an umbrella or the p60x with the included softbox be a better solution for that? 2) with the 60x, would you recommend using high capacity NP-F batteries and the included adapter plate or a V mount battery for weight distribution/ease of use/battery life? Thanks!
@curtisjudd11 ай бұрын
An umbrella will provide softer light but it will also spill everywhere - good for a flat but soft look. The panel with the softbox will be a little less soft but will not spill as much - good for a more stylized look, perhaps. I’d start with the NP-F batteries.

What I am wondering is if I want to have the highest output at daylight and tungsten color, would I go with a daylight balanced and just use CTO(which I am assuming cuts light transmission significantly by blocking blue wavelengths) or choose a bi-color?

the 60x will take the the light dome 2 if you use a 2.5 grip head and push the yoke deep enough instead of the using supplied mount.

Which yoke and deep enough?

$15? You can get an Impact 33” umbrella from B&H for $9.99, and like their air cushioned light stands, they are quite decent.

Wow... seems like i have overpaid when geting lights for my home studio... 120DII and 60D/X aren’t better than Amaran 60d/x.... hope i can still sell 60d/x.
@curtisjudd2 жыл бұрын
They are better in some ways. For home, you probably don't need the much more robust build of the Light Storm lights, but they still have their advantages, like being able to use much larger modifiers.

I've seen 1x1 panel lights (such as the Astra) used as the hair/kicker for talking head and interview lighting. Do you think the P60X would work well for that?
@curtisjudd2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I used here. I had the intensity dialed back, but you could punch more light if you prefer.

@@curtisjudd Love your videos been watching for years. Funny tall person story I'm 6'3 and I always forget when someone points out that I'm a big guy I don't think about it often. I went to a big and tall store and they acted like I was a shrimp (6'3" is probably in the top 5% of heights). I trained in the military on a submarine and we wore baseball cap style hats I hit my head on things constantly because I couldn't see above my eyeline much.

I am still waiting for a lights manufacturer to give out a detailed API, so we can program our own effects instead of limited by their own lack of imagination. Until then, I feel no reason to buy any new lights.

I thought i could trust Curtis as he seemed to understand sound. The 60x is a noisemaker and you cannot have it anywhere your talent or microphone or you will get noise... a broadband noise that you cannot remove easily. A high pitched noise around 4k to boot as well. If your using a condenser microphone you will pick this up. I think the reviewer has been remiss in mentioning this, although its quite apparent as soon as you turn one light on. the other thing is the battery life is really very very poor. Basically the light is ok in noisy environments as the sound would get washed out but i do doubt this reviewer as its the third time ive bought something he has reviewed from a mainstream manufacturer that hes failed to review critically. Had i known how limiting this light was i would not of clicked his refferal link, but hey enjoy that refferal. Not expecting a reply from the reviewer.. it all smells fishy to me..
