This is the most comforting dessert, I think, bar none! My grandmother made delicious custard in a regular pie shell, homemade, of course, but your butter pastry would be amazing, I’m sure. I’m going to have to try this one, for sure!

My first attempt at something other than bread and cup cakes, so approached it with some trepidation, but I neednt have worried, as once again your excellent recipe and video, were both excellent and helped me to deliver a much more than ‘passable’ egg custard tart. The fact its all been eaten within the hour, (thats after cooling) by the family, is testament to your wonderful recipe and approach. I made your Sourdough Crumpets yesterday from my Starter that I have had going for a couple of years...the Crumpets were a big success. Oh John this has taken me back. My mum used to do these all the time. Remember the Fray Bentos pies? She used to keep the tins they came in and she would do hers in them. I used to end up washing about 6 of them small tins. I don't eat this but mum sure loved doing them x

Here in South Africa, the custard tart (or milk tart as we call it 😎) is institutionalised. The only difference is we use cinnamon instead of nutmeg on the top. I've had both and the aromatics are distinctly different. A cookbook? I thought you'd retired! 😁

Where was it you used to work before you retired?
