This looks awesome! The detail on the sheep looks great and the grass is perfect for the hill it sits on. Excellent paint job and execution!

Great job. Must have felt awesome playing with them the first time. I have watched the entire series 1-4, and hope to make my own with a similar method, because these look better than the new 3D tiles. But.... 1) I understand you cannot reach too near the edges with elevations because there is where the players will build , but why did you not paint, or glue flat terrain the edges? Now it's wood. 2) And why not paint the number area (see ep 2-4)? While this will be covered during a game, the tile as such would look better with uniform color/terrain. 3) Did you make ports? Guess not.

First off I’d like to say thank you for the feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I will try and answer your questions the same way you listed them. 1) to be honest I had a vague plan going into making these and realistically I should have planned more but I got ahead of myself in my excitement. Flattening out the terrain towards the edge is definitely 1 way to make sure that the players can easily place down pieces along the edge, but since I was doing this by hand it would have been hard for me to consistently mold the correct elevation for each piece. Also I personally like the look of the wood on the edge. 2) I could paint the number area but again I wanted to see what having the wood accent would look like. As you can see the pieces vary quite a bit and that’s because I was trying different things for each one but painting that area could be an easy way to make them consistent. 3) I unfortunately moved onto doing other things but I do hope to return to doing this in the hopes that I can entirely redo it and make them all consistently good. Again thank you for your feedback and questions, I hope this helped.

Hi - I plan to make my own Catan board, using your videos to help me. What kind of modelling clay did you use? You mentioned it went into the oven. Was that a kiln or just a regular oven? I’ve only got the oven in the kitchen...if you used that, how long did you put it in for? Thanks for making these videos!

The modeling clay used is crayola white air dry clay, it can also be put in the oven (just a regular cooking oven) to speed up the process like in the video. I just put my oven on the lowest setting and let the clay sit there for about an hour (I would leave it for a bit more mine was still soft in some cases.
