Thank you for this. While we all enjoy watching videos with slick editing, quick cuts, and hype music I feel that it can distract people and lead them to misunderstand the amount of time it takes to do even the smallest detail work. [edit]Unmanaged[edit] expectations often cause frustration. I primarily work with Warhammer/miniature building and painting however recently have been getting into these Gundam videos; I have encountered people who assume that "...the airbrush did all the work on a model.." without realizing the time spent glazing multiple thin layers of paint to get the light 'just right'. And that doesn't include the many hours of prep work spent getting the piece to a place where it's even ready to be painted. Removing mould lines, adding or removing parts, controlling glue application, sanding multiple surfaces, basing materials ... hell, even thinking about how the model will be posed on the base is an important design decision.

It's replies like yours that made me push on to create more contents like these. Unfortunately it's not a type of niche that's easy to produce but comments like yours will continue to motivate me. It's definitely one of my purpose to showcase the amount of work that goes in to a small part, even at a beginner level of detailing. Thank you for the awesome reply!

great work man. have you ever tried Bondo as a filler? works great for me. no need to thin, ready to use. cutting plastic straight is one hell of a task, the struggle is real! xD
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 3 жыл бұрын
Never heard of it. Googled it and it's an automotive filler? What's the specific type that you're using? I'm always open to try new stuff 😃 Yeah, free handing that square was a struggle.. lol
@yotamfreyman684
@yotamfreyman684 3 жыл бұрын
@@GunplaNewbie yeah bondo is exactly that. I discovered it during my studies on an industrial design course. it is really handy, you should try it! my chisel work is way dirtier than yours. can that be due to bad quality tools? do you sand your tiny edges after you chisel them out? my edges are never sharp like yours. =/
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 3 жыл бұрын
@@yotamfreyman684 Thanks for the info, I'll check it out :) Of all the chisels that I have, the DSPIAE 0.15mm is the only "branded" chisel that I have. The rest are just a bunch of off-brand Chinese chisels. I only sand the base of the surfaces. If the edges are sanded then it would look less "mechanical" if you know what I mean. When I find the edge not as sharp as I wanted, I'll "stab" it with a wide chisel so it's more pronounced. Please ask away if you have any more questions. Happy to answer and talk about scribing!
@youcancallmeneon
@youcancallmeneon 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly the type of tutorial I've been needing! Didn't think to pre-sand the surface, I had been getting frustrated with tape sliding around. Are you using 800? Also, I noticed you're using a Dspaie scriber now. Have you switched to that from your BMC?
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 3 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks man, glad it's helpful. I lightly sand the surface with the 1800-2000 grit sanding sponge. I've never had BMC, I can't afford them lol. All this while I've been using brandless scribers/chisels from China. The DSPIAE one was my first "branded" one I've got. What tapes are you using?
@youcancallmeneon
@youcancallmeneon 3 жыл бұрын
@@GunplaNewbie I was using Dspaie tapes actually! i was kind of chocked by how good they were, but i did find that they slide sometimes. i had also been using a mr. line chisel as my scriber, but ive been having a hard time making good sharp corners.
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 3 жыл бұрын
Dspiae tapes are actually very strong compared to some other brands. To the point I would use the same strip for a few more times until I feel less lazy to cut a new strip. It depends on the surface area though, if there's not enough surface area then it might move...
