Yeah, I think the pen works on bigger kits but not very effective when used on thin/fine lines.

Thanks for the review, I suggest that you'd need resistant stir bars as the rods will eventually contaminate your color. also, vortexing is not very good when mixing paint, the bubbles generated will cause inconsistencies when you spray paint.

Hey, isn't usually a bad idea to apply panelliner directly to the part without topcoat? 2:10, just asking for clarification
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 3 ай бұрын
It usually is but for a part loosely assembled without much pressure it's fine. Also I don't leave it on for a long time, not enough time for the excess thinner to do damage.

3:47 This is only my theory, but Bandai might have more constraints in mind when delivering sets of water slide decal along with model kits. The thicker & less active decal can help: 1. The decal set less prone to damage, while being in a box together with runners & parts. To truly protect water slide decal sets, you will need separate packaging (like 3rd-party brand does), which cost more & Bandai chose not to do even until now. 2. Sets can be on shelf for months, even years. This might be a part in slowing down degradation of water decal sets, while being in storage for a long time. With that in mind, Bandai could be in a tougher spot when deciding to include water slide along with the kit. But then I wouldn't go for Bandai decals as default either, since it's nearly impossible to keep from peeling use without MarkSetter/MarkSofter (or equivalent substitute).

I'd love to see more of your ideas and ways you would go about scribing new lines on a Zeon mobile suit. Gundam and non Gundam ms tend to favor differnet styles of panel lines, and odd end details.

Been using the GW acrylic for my gunpla aswell recently. They are not bad paints by anymeans, just very fragile. Highly pigmented tho. The metallic paints such as leadbelcher, retribution gold, ironhands silver? (not 100% sure on that one) are perfect for metalic detail painting. Add a wash of nuln oil and, remove some of the excess, and good to go. @@GunplaNewbie

I really don't get how Bandai thought eventually that the shoulder as a separate shoulder pad is a good idea. Also, that Rebuild red plug-jack is an eyesore. Also don't get Kara for that.

I mean you can .. but I don't think it'll stay on if you're gonna play with the football. These hobby decals are not meant to withstand such situation.

Might be too late and you have already found the answer, but the 'cracks' or 'dots' you see whenever you panel line with the fountain pen might not be from the fountain pain itself, but from the panel scribing chisels. I was watching several scribing tutorials and chisel reviews and I saw that using cheap scribing chisels might crack the plastic when you pass it instead of doing clean lines. It happened to me with a newer kit(Aerial). Update: My bad, I didn't see you're using BMC so yeah, the case I explained wasn't it. Maybe trying another fountain pen like Dspiae? I saw good reviews of it.

How did you manage to dissemble the unit's head after building it? Was it hard?
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 10 ай бұрын
It's usually hard for most kits, especially for smaller rg kits. But since I've planned to disassemble the kit afterwards, I'm always on the lookout for tight pegs or spots. So that it'll be easier to take apart.

Great build! Been following your content for awhile. Was wondering what sizes of chisels you usually use for MGs? I wanna start but I only have enough to buy a 1 or 2 and not an entire set. Was thinking of getting 0.2 and 0.4mm
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 11 ай бұрын
Hey thanks! I would say start with the thinnest possible. I'd get 0.15mm and go from there. Start with simple lines and shapes then you'll know what you want next. You don't need to get expensive ones. I've produced some decent results with rusty cheap ones.
@gameslacker2711

@@GunplaNewbie I see, wouldn't 0.15 be too small for an MG? I can't really tell unless I see the scribe on a kit. Also, thanks for replying, didn't expect that😂. Seems like you respond to most of your comments, even ones from older vids. Definitely deserve a sub in my book😉
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie 11 ай бұрын
Most of my kits are 1/100 or MG and I've started with 0.2mm. 0.2mm is fine but once you get a hang of it you'll want cleaner and more natural lines. That's when 0.15mm comes in. If you start super fine then you'll have more opportunities to add thicker lines to break up the design and add layers. I might not have much time to do videos or even do gunpla but replying comments is the least I could do.

Did you use primer or just base coat silver?
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie Жыл бұрын
I've tried a few combinations and decided that primer would just make the metallic finish murky or cloudy. So it's either gloss black or gloss white as the base coat depending on what type of "color richness" you prefer.

Do you find darker kits work better with a lighter background? I tried my darker red kit with the dark background and it seemed too dark.
@GunplaNewbie
@GunplaNewbie Жыл бұрын
It could work but you need sufficient light in front to lit up the entire kit. If there's shadow on the edges of the kit, then there's not enough separation from the background. And yes, generally people would use lighter backgrounds for "darker" kits but if you look at bandai promotional photos, it's not always the case.

Wouldn’t a battery paint stirrer like badger do the job just as well?
@GunplaNewbie

It probably would but it involves dipping the stirrer in to the paint bottle right? It's pros and cons to consider both options.
