Probably without intending to, you make the fabrication part of bag making less anxious for me. My perfectionist habits become less intrusive....so thanks. I love that we share a fixation on sewing machines and things of a vintage nature. Also...your voice! You were born to do therapy with that voice! Keep making videos and sharing...its a little bit of exquisite. artistic calm in a chaotic world.

I really enjoy this slower version of your bag/tote construction with your explanations. I never get tired watching you work, whether it’s sewing or building or fixing. Somewhere along the way in life, I missed out on learning all these skills you’ve developed, so I’m sort of playing catch up. Thanks for all the teaching. You are absolutely my favorite KZbin channel.

Great looking canvas bag! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and seeing all of the different machines you have. Back in 2001 I bought an Artisan 618-1SC machine to reupholster the seats in my 1970 Chevelle SS. BIG undertaking for someone that had limited sewing experience. Being hard headed and persistent with help from books and videos I managed to do a pretty nice job. So much so that the first car show I entered after finishing my car I got several upholstery job requests. I have done other seats and barber chairs since. I didn’t know how much I would enjoy do this. Thanks again for the time you use to put these videos out. Much appreciated.

First off the bag looks great, I always wondered how the rope insert was done and you made it look relatively easy to do. It's nice to watch your videos because they're clean and simple to watch. Too many videos are poorly edited and the guys ramble endlessly. Nice work sir...

Alexander, I've been waffling on the flip down edge guide for a while, contemplating cheaper options. The thing that SOLD IT for me was at 5:50 where you used it on top of the bag body to sew the leather strap on. You can't do that with anything that rests on the table! Excellent! That was worth the entire price $$ of watching the video !! You always have informative videos, usually with at least one "AH HA!" moment.

Hello Alex thank you for going to the trouble to make these videos. You have inspired me to get back into sewing and making custom bags. Your clear and correct methods have jogged my memory and improved my processes out of sight. I also love your machine reviews. I managed to find a Singer 211A566AA with hardly any use (belonged to a car club for 20 years, there isn't even any wear on the thread paths!)' , fitted a servo motor and now use it for most of my work. Love it. Again thank you. You have a fan here. Cheers Steve from Melbourne Australia.

I loved watching and listening to you construct the canvas bag with grommets and leather handles with inside pockets. Really an excellent job demonstrating and describing. Then, with the addition of that cool music as the video faded out, really made this production what I would call refined or high class. You just keep,getting better and better. I have a feeling you don’t sell patterns for that last bag you just made, but I’d like one very much. I’d encourage you to think about having someone write the pattern, if that’s not your forté. I’m sure people would be very interested in your brand and style of male-oriented sewing and sewing projects. I didn’t mean to sound sexist there, but that’s how the words came out. Keep it up. You’re just getting better and better. Thanks for your help and the slow video for those of us who are a bit slow.

I have a Juki DDL-8500. I'm using a 110/18 needle. I can use a 120/19 sharp needle. The canvas I have on hand is 1680 denier with poly coated back. not able to overedge with this machine. Could I get away with say a 3/16th" hem (single upturn hemmer)? Maybe cut the corners, where they all meet, slightly to avoid too many layers. I could use v92 bonded poly thread. I've been using T69 . I make thermal insulated canvas accessory covers for Ice Fishing houses. Thank you for all I've learned from you.

Whew, finally got my Alexander Dyer fix - ha! As I was watching you work, I was thinking to myself, (a) I wonder where's he get those little clips, (b) and how long must it take to make one measly bag, (c) how much more patience does he HAVE than me, (d) does he keep a sketchbook of all his ideas and (d) I wonder how many and what kind of irons he has? :o) THANKS for another great video - I've yet to see a dud - ha! Annette
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 6 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is quite a list! 😃I got the clips on Amazon, if you would like to get some there is a link in the description to my page with lots of recommendations for you. I also wonder how long these projects take, you see sometimes I will think about them on and off for hours before I even pick up a pencil. When you get inspired the patience comes easy so find something you love, I do keep a few notes but I wish I had a sketchbook, that would be better than my scraps of paper. After my last Iron broke after only a year or so I decided to get a better one, so just one actually. Thanks for the interest and support. I really appreciate it.

Those useful clips are called “wonder clips”. The normal red size, or now multicolor packs are best for all around sewing and bindings. They also come in skinny versions, about half the width. The jumbo ones are nice to have, but are least useful. Jumbos are usually green. I got mine from Nancy’s Notions, but if you search “wonder clips”, you’ll find lots of sources. These clips were one of the first things I bought when I began sewing in 2012. I use them very often, one of the best notions there are. Hope that helps.

My first thought was that this lamination would be very strong. This leather is one sided so the canvas covers the back side and I like the look that this gives and how it ties the two materials of this project together. I think I will do it again in the future.

Alexander- Could you add a link to your Amazon recommendation page for the narrow foot that you are using on your Juki? Also, a link for the roller guide as well. I'd like to add those to my 1541S, and would gladly see you get some credit. And one question- what weight thread are you using on the bags and the leather strap (92? 138?)

I have added a link on my influencer page as you have requested for the swing down roller guide. The narrow foot set was purchased from Nickosew.com, you will probably have to call them for best results. You are right on with your thread size estimate, 138.

Thanks for adding the roller guide to your recommendations. Unfortunately Amazon shows that item as being unavailable with no info on if or when it will become available. I did sign up on Patreon to help in a small way. Given the quality of your videos and the number of your channel subscribers and video views, I was surprised to see how few Patreon members you have. Come on people. How many Starbucks Coffees could you skip each month to keep this content coming?

Sorry to hear about the supply on that item, Amazon sells others that appear to be the same to me. Try this one if you would like. amzn.to/2udkiOX Thank you for all your support.

What kind of machine did you just show, that you used on two edges of canvas to keep them from fraying? It seems to work like a serger. Is it a sort of industrial serger? Please give me the name you called it, since I could not catch what you said there. Thanks.

That is a Rimoldi 3 thread overlock sewing machine. It is an industrial serger as you say.

Alexander, thanks for that machine name, Rimoldi 3 overlocker.

To be clear, it is the Rimoldi 227-00-30 which is a three thread overlock sewing machine. It uses 3 spools of thread to produce the overlock stitch.

I'm sorry OldDirtyBoot, this is a one off custom client bag that I have chosen not to share. I can't keep up with all the cut lists for every custom order. I have included a cut list in the description of this very similar "cool tool bag" video. With that and the two videos you should be well on your way to sewing up your own. Thank you and good luck. Here is a link to that video with cut list in the description. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWbXq4Cvrsdpa5I
