Folks unfamiliar with the two different major styles, check out Google Images searches for "tugboat" followed by "push boat" to see the big difference in bow (front) design.

Overall I'm not a big MOC kind of guy, but this is phenomenal. This looks better than many official LEGO sets of similar size and shape. Your MOCs are typically very well done, but this just knocks it out of the park. Great job!

angles back for different reasons. Fuel tanks are normally in the bow and water tanks in the stern so depending on levels of tanks would determine how it's sitting in the water. The stern needs to be lower in the water so the wheels are deeper down in the water to be efficient. the bow needs to be a little higher running lite boat (no barges in front) to keep the bow from diving. water run off on the decks.

I love seeing these dock cruise ships. It is just so cool!
@paulvillemocs7 жыл бұрын
JANGBRiCKs I think it would be very cool if you could lower the legs of the tables with boats and put in some kind of clear basin that you could fill with water. You could put weights inside of the boats and have clear stands so that they could stay where in the water you wanted them. It would add a cool level of realism that blue baseplates or lots of little clear blue plates don't give. I imagine it kind of like LEGOLAND's Miniland. I think the baseplates look great for the streets in the city, but for the water, it would look really cool or and give the city something very different from other people's custom layouts.

In the world of LEGO, if a minifig has claustrophobia, they're kinda screwed. Great build Jang! Love the multi-side building. How do you key in the top and bottom builds so well? I know LEGO doesn't have the up/down sided stud plates like Megabloks does.
@JANGBRiCKS7 жыл бұрын
Here's a picture showing some of what I did on the front: instagram.com/p/BS5RoySFv0g/ For the upside-down stuff, I believe on this one I used sideways headlight bricks plugged into upside-down ones.

That's very reminiscent of the "Tug" Ken Booth Sr. It's a pusher Tug just like that pushes a 600 ft "barge" that typically hauls iron ore. It comes through Duluth fairly often. Great built! I like all the detail. The engine is awesome! Awesome work, you should put that on Lego Ideas!

The way I deal with when It comes to old pieces, be it old color or mold, I separate my custom builds to be "era specific". I do make exceptions every once in a while, mostly for compensation sake, but I generally don't like to mix pieces from different eras. I don't include old gray or old hinge pieces in my "modern" builds, and try to faithfully follow the design philosophy of older sets when I try to create something similar. This allows me to make use up some parts I would otherwise never use (such as Johnny Thunder/Adventurer specific wheels and car pieces) and still keep working with the new pieces to make more detailed modern stuff.

Great little vessel, which is known as a "towboat". They do push things with their "knees" as it's called. You could make a fair number of barges to go infront of that, they'd either be lashed in a row or in pairs.

I love nautical subjects. Jang, i think you did a really nice job on that model. I hope you find a good application for it - maybe you need a really big ocean-going subject rather tha a coaster to go alongside and shunt about? Great proportions and character; love the use of classic LegoLand system bricks.

If you are searching for a different look for your cargo vessels, look at the "older" styles of Great Lakes freighters. They are around 730 feet long and are used as bulk carriers (ore, grain, etc.). They have the a superstructure with the wheelhouse and cabins in the bow and a superstructure at the stern for the engine room and an unloading boom. The Edmund Fitzgerald was the most famous.
@JANGBRiCKS7 жыл бұрын
:) The first two designs I mentioned in the beginning of this video were forward-cabin container ships. No full aft cabin though, just engine room & smokestack. A more modern design. I do still plan to do a forward cabin build at some point.
