Stuart, another fantastic video; six years on and I’ve just fitted the badges in about 10 mins. Using your guidance.Thanks! I found gently warming the tank a little before applying the badges helped with adhesion( very cold day in Kent) and using a smooth metal hinge pin as a second guide in the front bolt hole really helped to align the badges correctly 👍

Hi Stuart, First of all: Thanks for your endless flow of useful information. A word of caution concerning the new badges: I had these installed by my dealer when I bought the bike when it came out. Due to chipping off of the black paint in the name plate I ordered new ones from my dealer. Upon peeling off the old ones about 2 months ago it became apparent they either hadn’t been properly positioned (most likely a tad too high) or not pressed on hard enough or both. The result was humidity entering from the top between the nameplate and the badge leading to corrosion in and around the front screw holes. The washed in pollen on the adhesive in the gap served as a perfect indicator. Hadn’t the paint chipped off this would’ve gone on unnoticed, ultimately leading to a leaking tank. Triumph fixed the issue on warranty terms after I had sent them detailed photos of the issue.
@stuartfillingham6 жыл бұрын
I think that is a potential issue with any of the tank badges Juan. all you can reasonably do is make sure the badges is fixed and sealed as well as possible.

I found that on one side of my tank, the badge had a gap. No contact with the adhesive. The 3M adhesive set up rock solid where it made contact. I doubt it could be pulled off. I used a glue syringe and injected black RTV silicone into the gap and wiped off the excess down behind the bar with a cotton shotgun bore patch. Looks perfect and no water will run down behind the badge. My suggestion is to be sure you press the Bloody Hell (English speak) out of the badge against the tank, FROM FRONT TO BACK, as Stuart suggests, before the adhesive fully engages at the back. The pin will hold the general placement.

Thank you! I just installed mine and one one side it's perfect, the other has a gap in the curve. I pressed it hard, from front to back and went out several times during the first 24 hours to just press the damn badges. Still failed with one. I saw some recommended to fit the screw in the open hole for the first 24 hours just to press it down firmly in the middle, take it out and then put the triumph-logo on. Too late for me, though, but maybe a help to some others! I had big plans to wash my bike when I spotted it, I guess I'll have to copy you with the silicone (and letting it cure before I can finally wash my bike.)

Fantastic. These badges are so great. Personally, I think they look especially good on the black T120. Really pops the simple elegance. And picks up the air fins in the motor as well. Cheers.

First time commmenter here... Love your videos. These actually came on my bike from the dealer... Didn't even realise they weren't standard till I saw this :). When I did my test ride I was just so taken by the look of the bike as a whole that I wasn't committing every detail to memory. And when I bought mine (from a different dealer than my test ride was at) I just said I wanted a T120 black graphite and that was what I got (with the upgraded badges). And I actually just got a compliment on them from another T120 owner at a vintage British Bike meet/ride I was at today here in Los Angeles (my first... LOTS of amazing bikes there)!

Before watching this video, I had thought the badge was all one chrome piece fitted to the tank. I agree that the 4 bar badge has a much nicer appearance than the other one.

Not having a hair dryer, I use a large plastic liquid detergent bottle, eg. Morrisons , but others are available, filled with hot water. The temperature can be adjusted by adding cold water until it's comfortable to hold. Good for warming tank and pads without risk of overheating.
@Gaius06 жыл бұрын
Here's an alternate method of removing those badges for those that, like me don't have a hair dryer either. Instead use a piece of string. Holding it vertically with both hands at either end, one above and one below, insert the string under one corner of the badge. Then slowly "floss" your way to the other end. Make sure you don't pull towards you at any point, or as Stuart says you might make the opposite corner of the badge scrape the tank. Just slide the string flush with the surface of the tank using a slight flossing/serrating motion until you've gone clear from one end to the other. Using this method both badges came off very easily, at least in my case.

100% agree with you about the badges. I found the stock ones a bit disappointing. The 4-bar ones make the bike look so much better. The cynic in my makes me think that Triumph uses mediocre looking stock badges so that people will go and spend an extra £94 on proper ones! Anyway., congrats on the new badges. Thanks - I found no need for the hair dryer. I just carefully pried a small part of the badge back, enough to use pliers to get better leverage. The insert can’t be saved anyway. I then used a plastic card to gently lever the main badge off.

Hi Stuart! Great video. I wanted to install these on my 2017 Street Cup, so purchased a set. Apparently my tank is smaller than the T120, as they were not curved properly for this tank. However I was able to carefully 'bend' them into a reasonable fit, and they fit up pretty well, and they look a treat! Also installed the Motone Union Jack knee pads which are great. I'd installed the Triumph accessory ones, and they fell off after about 3 months!! The Motone pieces are stuck tight and fit great!

@@SentientEgg I also got these for my Street Twin (actually Speed Twin 900 w/ same tank) hoping they'd be close enough to make work. The bottom forward corner sits a good 1/4" away from tank. Slight word of warning - I had these fitted by the dealer before picking up my brand new T100 Black in June 2018. Unfortunately whilst riding at the weekend one of these flew off my bike and almost wiped out my mate on his bike! They're not light in weight and now worried the other one will do the same and could do some serious damage to another biker or car
