The parcel hook is a lifesaver if you're disabled. I have osteo and rheumatoid arthritides and my hand strength is just about nil. The hook is useful for opening tabbed cans. I also use mine to tie knots (and untie them) because my fingers just can't do it anymore. You should check out Felix Immler's video on uses for the hook.
@mrchris47263 ай бұрын
You can also fit a strong small magnet in it. You can get from old earplugs e.g. the round ones fit nice in the hook. I have a square one under the cork. Use it to fix sheets of paper on metal at work or drawing patterns on baldes. You can also fish your keys out of areas you cant reach by hand. Thats why i have a two feet knotted paracord on my knife. I can magnet fish with it. One day my glasses fell in the river. I was able to get them out with my victorinox and the stuff is very small. Thanks for the etsy tip for scales!

Preheating the scales (with warm water) would help softening them, therefore it would be easier to install the new ones. Thanks for the video!

You should’ve opened up the 3rd scale hole (opposite end to the tweezers) for a short toothpick and second pinhole for a sewing needle! Instructions are on Felix Immler’s channel.

@@jackellock7113 Really really hot water may effect a blade’s sharpness. I was talking about victorinox scales specifically. If you leave them in boiling water for even a few minutes they will melt.

@@MichaelB2Lyep I needed to learn this the hard way too. But you can throw the scales in boiling water again for a couple of seconds and then press them flat unter a book or so. So I safes my transparent light blue scales 😀

@tallmaris3 ай бұрын
On the corkscrew you can only fit 1 micro screwdriver, but above that you can put that orange stuff, which tinder (very compressed) used to start a fire, together with the ferro rod, the black thin thing which he put in the scales at some point.

That’s the parcel hook. Has a few uses but it’s pretty crap apart from the file, so handy for that. The hook can be used to hold the pen for easy use and I’ve seen someone file the top of it where you clip it out Into a little flat head. Would be great to swap out for the screwdriver on the 58mm. Enjoy paddy’s day!

Typically i carry a Cybertool L. I've made 1 cm markings on the file, using a pencil. The graphite persists quite well in the rough structure of the file and helps me to do rough measurements. It cannot replace a proper ruler or calipers, but helps to decide if there is a known discrete set of possible values. Something like, "is this a 18mm, 20mm or 22mm bolt?" can be answered with those markings. Near the base of the screwdriver of the Cybertool there is some empty space. There i keep a small neodymium magnet. On other models it can be fit into the corkscrew instead of the firestarter

Your Compact looks great! The back side Philips may look good they don't work very well. Did you know the corner of your combo tool works on Philips screws? Not perfect but it works. Years ago I came up with a better solution I made an inline 1/4 bit exchanger that fits on the combo tool made from a 1/4 inch square drive to a 1/4 inch hex bit adapter. I carry it in the bottom of my front pocket with a Philips bit in it. If you are interested in seeing it let me know It is an easy DIY project.
