After just quitting my at home customer service job 2 weeks ago I 100% can confirm its a soul sucking experience. The software they had us using was awfully outdated and glitchy (some of the issues were intentionally designed to increase productivity in employees but lead to work issues when interacting with the customers) The work culture was awful. Management was very rude and authoritarian. It was like a sweatshop in my very own home. I had to jump ship before I blew my brains out. I have a newfound respect for anyone who does customer service and can maintain their sanity, because a lot of the times your own employers are working against you just as much as the customers are.

There's a reason why I respect customer service workers. They're humans just like us just trying to get thru the day. There really is no need to be a selfish bitch over the phone with someone who is barely making enough to pay rent. And another thing: we're NOT living in the future. Expect things to come at a reasonable time. It's not like the moment you hang up, your order is at the door. If you gotta wait 6-10 minutes for a delivery, *wait six to ten bloody minutes to get your bloody order!* And if it's taking longer and they give you a reason as to why it's taking so long, stay calm and wait. You are not going to die if it comes 20 minutes later. In short: respect the workers. They are humans like us and they're having a bad enough day without your selfish ass yelling and complaining at them.

Aylosaur 3000 fella, I barely buy anything online. And if I do, I really don't care how long it takes for it to arrive. Cuz as long as I know that I already purchased it, they should be in the middle of building it, packaging it, shipping, handling, and delivering it to me at anytime. Also, I work to make my money and I'm only 19. The only reason I'm not spoiled is cuz I wasn't raised that way. I appreciate everything given to me. Then, there are the spoiled Karens out there…

Poor training is the most infuriating shit. I remember working at 7-Eleven with NO prior experience working a cash register, and I made sure to make that clear. When I tell you the manager showed me ONE video with a short quiz on how to work the cash register, dusted their hands, off and plopped my in experienced ass right behind the counter. Literally one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with a job.

@@mikkeldvhlbvck fair enough tbh. Everyone wants to follow their dream job but they sometimes forget that having some food should always come first no matter what, so that you can do that and also have a device, internet and a place to live in and just generally be comfortable at your own house is just goals tbh Just make sure that you have some hobbies, pastimes or habits you can do to fill in some time when you are not in that hellhole because the internet may not counter the stress of doing a job like that. It doesnt have to be excersice, yoga or meditation, even just crossword puzzles, chess, staying hydrated or even playing a simple instrument like a ukelele can help you deal with stress more easily and give true value to your spare time (not saying you shouldnt use the internet, because i would be a hypocrite, but just make it so it isnt such a huge mental health pillar and that you have other things to rely on in complicated moments)

Two unfortunate sides of a coin when it comes to customer service: there are the customers who get treated like shit by employees who are incapable of comprehending basic speech and there are employees who get treated like shit by customers who are incapable of comprehending basic speech. I'll tell a story of mine for this: basically, I kept having this problem with my ISP (one of many) where my internet connection would periodically go down for no apparent reason. I tried a lot of shit myself to not have to deal with them, but eventually I found myself calling them. First time it was the stupid "did you try turning it off and back on", which I did and the person on the other side apparently considered it being functional for two seconds enough to say it was working and didn't need any repairs. This was kinda funny because I told her I have done this before and the issue kept repeating itself, but the fucking moron wouldn't do anything if it basically wasn't broken beyond repair. Now grab that experience of doing something that already was done while trying to explain to the employee why you need another """solution""" and know the situation of the problem better than them to no avail, then multiply it by literal weeks. Endless fucking cycles of "I've already tried to unplug it and plug it back" followed by fucking relentless insistence that I absolutely had to do it to get the fucking support I wanted, which they then backpedaled on because "lol it's working for single-digit seconds, so it's okay, thanks for calling and bye". I want to punch every single person that forced me into that shit instead of passing the call to someone who actually knows something or at least bothering to schedule a technician to come to my house to check the problem personally. That aside, there was this one time I forwarded some ports for a Conan Exiles dedicated server and they cut my access to it because I didn't own the "corporate pack". Yeah, hosting a server on your only PC is corporate shit now; I'm a fucking CEO and didn't even know.

This is painfully on point. I was a CSR for Netflix through a company called 24-7 intouch. Our training was only 2 weeks long were really only one week was training and the other week was mainly on the job training taking calls even though we still had numerous questions/concerns we all wanted answered. As for the calls themselves, good lord people can be dense. The amount of times I had to explain how internet connections worked on a day to day basis was ridiculous. Those same people who I had to explain those things to would claim "I don't know what any of that means, but it's not my internet because "X" app works fine." I've had customers who have 6+ smart tv's in their house but don't know how they work, and get pissy over the idea of having to sign back into their account after an update was made saying that I should go out there and do it for them. The people we dealt with on the phones were bad enough but even the higher ups didn't always make things better. Getting answers to almost anything would require asking every single person above you then asking other associates what they were told and seeing how much of it lined up to being the same since you'd get different answers across the board. To this day I still was never explained as to why we weren't given any sort of holiday pay while being required to work them other than "24-7 Intouch is a Canadian based company" which wouldn't hold any ground to anyone with access to google and the ability to read that there are Canadian laws on statutory holidays that have in basic wording on how people qualify to be paid for working on said holiday's. I was fired from this company after some attendance issues became more prevalent, some cases were completely outta my hands like the time my Lyft driver dropped me off at the wrong spot since the address I gave him was similar to another and he swore that's where he had to take me. But mainly it was due to them throwing my schedule around after throwing away the shift bids we sorted out and I explained that I wouldn't be able to work those hours reliably. And just yesterday they had sent me an e-mail about how they "reviewed my applicated again and liked what we saw." Like they don't even have records of me working there or something.

Dogshit Training is an understatement. I working 3rd shift stocking and after 2 days of "training", I finally got out to the floor and the person I was working with just expected me to know what to do. I literally wasn't taught how to find where product went on the shelf. My training quite literally did not train me.
