'Ford Mustang Launch Event' Official Clip FORD v FERRARI (2019) Matt Damon, Christian Bale
Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

Ken and his son perfectly display everyday people’s attitude towards the Mustang: They either think it’s a really cool car, or they think it’s a total turd from a butt. There’s no in between 😂

@Cody Erickson - Well, obviously the vast majority thought it was really cool as it set sales records no other American car ever could imagine, let alone achieve! Over 22,000 sold the first day! One Million Mustangs sold in the first 18 months! To my knowledge, no other maker on the planet sold that many units in that period of time. At the 1964 NY Worlds' Fair, I looked at that car on an outdoor turntable with floodlights illuminating the whole display. I was a 15 year old kid and I remember thinking to myself, this car will be/should be a real seller. The sales results proved me right!

@Loulovesspeed
@Loulovesspeed 2 жыл бұрын
@jpeg fern - Uhhh, I was referring to the record of 559,000 in 1965 and just over 1,000,000 in 18 months! No Dodge Challenger will ever dream of seeing those incredible sales figures! So if the mighty MOREPARTS Dodge is so great, why did they crawl away from NASCAR? Dodge's answer to every competitor has always been more hp, more hp. Too bad it can't do anything but go fast in a straight line. The Trans American (Trans-Am) Championship is one of the all time fan favorites going back to 1966. Mustangs, Camaros, Plymouth Barracudas, AMC Javelins and the odd Dodge Challenger or two. Strange thing but I don't believe the Challenger ever won a single race! This last weekend I watched the Trans - Am at Lime Rock Park and there was nothing but Mustangs, Camaros Corvettes and a single Dodge Challenger in the TA-2 Class -less than 500 hp. In TA-1, there were Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, a Porsche and a Jaguar. These monsters put out better than 850 hp - but no Challengers. The only place they are seen competing is good old knuckle dragging NHRA racing. The only American manufacturer (not really American anymore) that has gone bankrupt TWICE in its history. What a dubious distinction! Lol

Everything Miles said about the original Mustang was so true. But it wasn't built to be hot and sporty, it was built to compete with the VW Type 1 "Beetle". Once hot rodders realized its potential, then it became a sports car.
@Loulovesspeed
@Loulovesspeed 2 жыл бұрын
@Vincent Loparo lll - Sorry man but the VW Beetle was NEVER thought of as competition to the Mustang. The Mustang was built as a sporty car that the average American would want and could afford. There is nothing sporty at all about the Beetle, it looks like a horseshoe crab without a tail! The Mustang started a completely new sector in American car Manufacturing that was so incredibly successful, GM and Chrysler couldn't build their versions fast enough to capture their share of this new market!
@x808drifter
@x808drifter 2 жыл бұрын
@@Loulovesspeed Vincent is right though. The original mustang was never meant to be anything but a family cruiser/grocery getter. Mustang GT GT = Grand Touring (Easy and comfortable to drive long distances). It was not designed/built as a sports car. And yes it was supposed to go up against the VW Bug. Not in performance or looks, but in price.
@Loulovesspeed
@Loulovesspeed 2 жыл бұрын
@@x808drifter - Sir, you couldn't be more wrong in those statements. I don't know your age but I was a 15 year old when the Mustang debuted at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair and have owned a 1966 as well as a 1980. I have been a Ford fan from day 1 and have read voluminous amounts of materials pertaining to this iconic American car. The original Mustang was created, designed and built to be an affordable, sporty car (look up some of Lee Iacocca's comments on the car) that would appeal to a wide audience, especially the younger drivers. It was every one of those and more. It wasn't a TRUE sports car by definition like the Corvette, but it was much more affordable and could seat 4 rather than just 2 like the Corvette. As I said, I saw and heard people's reactions to their first viewing of it in person. Even as a teenager, I sensed that this car was going to be part of something really big in the way of affordable, sporty cars.....and I was right! Also, you will not find any comments by Ford back then that this car was designed to compete with the VW Beetle - not in looks, not in sportiness, not in power and definitely not in price! A loaded 1965 VW Beetle was $1,389. A typical 1965 Mustang V8 was $2,734.....close to twice the cost of the VW! Next to the Model T, the Mustang was the biggest success story in American automotive history! Period! P.S. - Because of its affordability, it has outsold the Corvette some 10,000,000 to 1,500,000 since they were both created. Plus, thanks to Carroll Shelby, it kicked the Corvette Stingray's ass 3 straight years for the SCCA B Production Class Championship in '65, '66, and '67.

Planes will fly true to the direction of relative wind, ordinarily that means straight on but if you have a strong wind to the side it will push the plane into an orientation such that the ground track will not align with the centerline of the plane. The Mustang was actually designed to be a far more advanced car, even with independent suspension which was put off for 50 years! Instead it was decided to make it fast (in a straight line) and pretty, so it would sell well.. and it did!

The beauty of V8 rwd American cars is that they were affordable to almost anyone with a job. In practically every other country in the world, their version of a muscle/pony car was a premium product which only upper echelon workers could buy. Australia did have equivalent cars, but the insurance and running costs made them out of reach for the young driver.

@@boilerhousegarage Well that's always been the difference between European and American car culture. European car culture evolved out of cars being a motorized version of horse-drawn carriages, something that was meant for the elite and affluent. So European car culture evolved to be mostly an arms race among elite supercar manufacturers. Meanwhile American car culture evolved out of cars being these mass-produced, relatively low-cost items that were a cornerstone of middle-class life. So car culture here evolved into working class mechanics taking stock passenger cars and then modifying them to be these muscle-bound freaks.

@@hikari2752 - Not quite sure I buy that thinking. When I was a kid many moons ago, parents virtually were never influenced by whatever their kids said about a car. The parents were paying for it, it was to be their car that sometimes hauled the kid(s) around, but it ultimately was the parents' decision, and no kid was going to realistically have his or her feelings become part of the parents' decision.

Of all car enthusiast/driver Carroll Shelby SHOULD own that spot no matter what anyone says. Carroll Shelby is an American inovating car enthusiast ALL TIME AMERICAN ICON (and he will own that) TITLE (SHELBY AMERICAN TEAM) USA R.I.P CARROLL SHELBY. 1923-2012 YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A MISSED PERSON IN A OFFICE ,ON THE ROAD,AND ON THE TRACK DRIVING, LIKE BAD ASS

@Austin Moore - Did you ever meet him? I was fortunate to have done so in 2006 at The Lime Rock Park Historic Festival. I will forever embrace that moment when I first spoke with him! He won the inaugural race at Lime Rock in 1957 in a Maserati 300 S. I had him sign a rare book on the Cobra Daytona Coupes and at a later date, had the designer, Pete Brock sign it also. Believe me, Carroll Hall Shelby is held very highly in the history of American racers and innovators. His name rings a bell to those who are not even car or racing devotees!
