@2:02 : Back in my mechanic days, I preferred to roll the driver's window as soon as I got the car inside the shop. Prevented a lot of keys locked inside the car events.

I even went and opened the drivers door a bit when reconnecting a battery, after witnessing the window going up as soon as the battery got reconnected. it never happened again, but y'know, what if next time the doors lock?

Then the window doesn't roll back up and you get blamed for it? Big no no at the shop I worked at. Those modules can get expensive!

I've had a vehicle with an aftermarket alarm system that locked the car every time the door closed. I always leave the window open even with the key removed from the car. Another time there was one with a faulty door lock that pulled to pin down when you closed the door or wound down the window. It was bad enough that I got good at opening locked cars, it's probably better that I'm honest.

When you get a car that frikking filthy a rat would not enter it, does a shop have a right to refuse to work on it? Not unless the interior was jet-washed with Clorox. What is their HOME like if their car looks like a bunch of winos been crashing out in there?
@johnjr757

@@NJPurling Some are horrible. My father used to work for a phone company doing installs, running phone jacks, etc. One house he went to the owner actually took a snow shovel to shovel a path through the dog crap in the room where he wanted a new phone line ran. My father refused to go in, called his supervisor and his supervisor came out to see it and said no chance. They hooked up the line outside and handed the end to the owner through a window and told him to do it himself.

I deal with this by ordering a basic interior detail (where i live human labor is very cheap even tho its europe in question) in a detail shop down the street, then i charge the customer via the work the price of the detail. They usually accept it, and in the end everyone is happy. You also get a returning customer. The thing is for some reason after you clean the car once they really dont make it dirty again. This was confusing to me since i suspected them trashing the interior. I refuse to work on cars that are under 1500EUR in value, you know they are gonna be hard on money, and would make the communication hard.

Actually happened in a dealership in Brisbane (Australia). Customer watched the whole process that they claimed they had serviced the car. He produced video evidence to the contrary, all the dealership did was left the vehicle where it was for the duration and just replaced the service sticker on the window....caught them red handed, called them out and threatened to take the video evidence to the media.....Guess who got a new car so that he wouldn't spill the beans? Sometimes there is justice, expensive for the dealership when all they had to do was to do the job it was supposed to.

Once upon a time a trucking co bought a brand new simi. They placed it into service and it gave them several years of good service. Finally, it clocked enough miles to require a rebuild. The co rolled it into their shop & an in frame overhaul was done. From the day that truck left the shop it ran hot. It was in & out of the shop numerous times but continued to run hot. Finally, at about 50,000miles the truck was in totaled bought by a mechanic who was given the trucks repair & service records. He bought it anyway. As he began to strip the engine to rebuild he opened up the engine oil cooler & inside found a red rag. He removed the rag, re assembled the engine, sold it for a nice profit & that engine returned to service for 700,000 trouble free miles. !

I really don’t understand how people can sit in something so disgusting, much less drive it. I was always taught that a car is a sense of pride, treat it as another room of your home. I treat mine even better, vacuuming, and at least keeping trash in a bag. My partner is the cleanest person you’ve ever met, but his car is full of water bottles so full in fact, when you turn the heat on you hear popping and crunching, and I thought there was an issue… There definitely was an issue. He needs to keep his freaking car clean WTF.
