That oil filter drain guide is a thing of beauty. All too often engine designers seem to go "Wait, we forgot the oil filter" and put the thing in the worst place possible.

VW had it with their lenghthwise installed engines. I always would rip up some air filter box and create funnels with the pieces to minimize the mess... Opel has created a housing sitting behind the engine and above the driveshaft. no matter what you do the driveshaft sleeve will be doused with oil. aside it taking a lifetime to drain the oil from the housing if you do it as they intended. seems like modern engineers have no idea about repairs and mainenance. they just... construct.

My 2001 F150 has something similar. The oil filter mounts horizontally and underneath where the filter contacts engine is an inclined "tray" that redirects the oil forward of the crossmember.

Noise when cold: Might be secondary air injection pump. It's a piece of emissions equipment. Car runs rich, then as a blower put a bunch of oxygen into the exhaust to get the cats to light off and come up to temp Hard to diagnose through the video, of course, but I think it's worth a check. I say that, over a vacuum line or something, because you can hear it 'spool up.' If it were vacuum related, you'd hear it immediately on startup

The noisy one you don't know is the SAI system. Secondary Air Injection for catalyst warm-up only runs when the engine is cold.

Do not wait until your temperature meter reaches red to stop or keep going until it shuts itself off. Always pull over and have it towed home if you see your car start to run hot. If it shuts itself down that means that it blew a head gasket, warped or cracked the block, melted multiple wires and damaged the manifold etc. Never ever keep driving once it starts to run hot. If the needle goes above the half way mark, pull it over and have it towed.

Disconnect the secondary air pump and see if it still happens. I have a vw mk4 golf and if the rivets holding them together fail they can sound like hoovers. Simple drill out the rivets and replace with nuts and bolts and its all good again.

2:28 the same can happen with those pesky 5cyl diesel engines VW developed a few years ago. the ones without any external belt drives and such... the water pump sits in the back of the block, driven by the crank via cogwheels. it is sealed with two punky silicone rubber rings, which can fail, slowly filling the oil pan with coolant. since you don't see any leaks people assume towing that trailer heated the engine and caused water to go away, and refill. and so on, until the oil pump draws water and the engine blows up. they also make the high pressure injectors work themselves into the cylinder head, which becomes thrash then. good thing VW doesn't build those contraptions anymore.

If the Volvo uses electrohydraulic power steering, my guess would be the pump has failed and the noise is the pump motor trying to build pressure. Or there's air getting in to the system.

noise sounds like a failing air pump. Mazda RX-8s do the exact same thing. the pump only comes on when engine is cold

I've had a Sparkplug break like that on my Harley, took me a while to figure it out too, until I finally checked the Gap and saw the electrode move.

Coil overs are such a nightmare. I've done 3 of these and had to replace tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints all together. I keep telling them, "if you want coil over, you should at least get adjustable control arms and sway bar link." They always tell me this, "That's too expensive." I was baffled in disappointment.

That noise on the T-bird sounded like a blown up cooling fan. Unless it has a smog pump or air compressor. In which case it would be a busted hose somewhere just blowing air straight out. It definitely sounds like a small fan noise like an air mattress pump just blowing air

There’s an air pump that pumps air into the intake to create a lean condition when the engines cold to warm it up for emissions purposes. And when that air pumps bearings start going they get loud and only when cold.

We need to bring back the shop class and maybe some basic mechanical classes to high schools. People these days are just too ignorant and oblivious to the world around them. I don't know what make/model the first clip was about but I have to ask where its been to get so rusted out. The sea? In 🇬🇧 a vehicle in that advanced state of corrosion would definitely *NOT* pass its compulsory annual safety check & it would probably be condemned as being structurally unsound and sent to the crusher . If your vehicle is 3 years old or more, you have to have an annual safety check "pass" certificate to relicense it.
