When we were kids, my friends and I used to call this game "Ontario Tangram". I don't know why but it amused us to do so

I was a Highschool senior when I played the original game at the Arcade. I was hooked on it after my first fight. When I got the Dreamcast after I graduated this game was one of my first two games. I didn't mind buying it again on the Xbox 360. Now I finally own all four games and the spin-off on the PlayStation 4

I do like VO2 but to me it's just not as epic as the first game. The PS3/360 Arcade perfect port is the best in my opinion (Same for Fighting Vipers). I just really wish this franchise would be brought back

Alot of people loved VO1 and 2. You would think Sega would have some intelligence and re-release these as a duo pack and bring the series back to what it was. But its Sega.

The sega Dreamcast Version was the first sega model 3 arcade port on the sega Dreamcast that was arcade perfect by the time this came out in the arcades sega had studied and mastered the sega model 3 arcade hardware and the sega Dreamcast so good to the point to where they found out a way to successfully port over the huge model 3 arcade game to the sega Dreamcast detail by detail and arcade perfect

This is definitely the most impressive arcade port on Dreamcast, but it never received much attention for whatever reason. I'd like to see DF Retro or another channel examine any differences between DC and Model 3, because I can't find any

I'm having doubts about getting this game for Xbox 360 because of the horrible controls on the Dreamcast version, it's funny because the SEGA Saturn version has much better controls and it came out earlier, I have played the demo on 360 and the controls feel better than the Dreamcast version but only slightly, also I won't really know till I buy the game because the demo AI opponents are set to easy and I remember on Dreamcast they were pretty challenging

If your PC is powerful enough u can always emulate the game. DemUL and Redream give u the option of adjusting the controls to your liking. You need a decent PC to do it and obviously know what your doing but it might be a better option for u rather than just sticking with it on the console.

@@robospacekitty2007 cool, personally I think I'll just stick to the Saturn version, also there are way more control options on the HD release then the Dreamcast version

The 360 version is good. The controller having two analog sticks by default really help with the controls, even if it's not a total replacement for the twin arcade stick. Although if you were that devoted, Hori did put one of those out for 360 back in the day. They might be hard to come by at this point. I'd definitely recommend buying the 360 version digitally if you haven't already.

Look at what they’ve done with the “Shining Force” series! I thought for sure when “Fire Emblem” got big the past few years Sega would bring the SRPG franchise back to capitalize on that. I mean, even “LanGrisser” got a re-release and remake! But, nope. And we’re getting like a second Genesis/MD mini. The easiest console to emulate. My microwave could emulate Genesis & SNES games. But nope. No Saturn or Dreamcast mini. Which would sell like gangbusters. I mean, the whole reason so many people are discovering Saturn games is that the emulation finally got stable enough. (And the Xbox One S is a beast for emulation…)

Sega dont care unless it's a quick/cheap sonic game. Their happy to sit on all their classic IPs and wait till an indie dev comes along to pay them a fortune to use it, then claim partial credit for it when they've had zero involvement. Theres so much they could bring back but they wont because they want indie devs to do all the work. Also Saturn emulation stable? Since when? It's still buggy as hell with needing to switch between beetle core/Uoyabause

Virtua On, Panzer Dragoon and Shenmue deserve so much better treatment than they receive. I wish Sony or someone would buy those IPs and actually utilize them. They’re all such unique concepts with a surprisingly large amount of fans (if the quality is actually there) and SEGA just lets them sit on the shelf collecting dust. We don’t really have modern games to fill the niche that these games could. People have been begging for a remake/sequel to Custom Robo or the Medabots games for like 20 years now and Nintendo has done nothing. There is no way to play those outside of emulation or original hardware. If SEGA had any sense they would turn Virtua On into a similar experience to those games. A new Panzer Dragoon RPG with modernized visuals and mechanics would sell like hotcakes, and imagine how good Shenmue could be if it was funded by a real publisher and given a real director who knows how to make a video game. The amount of minuscule detail in the original Shenmue is impressive to this day. Imagine what you could do with modern technology and a passionate team. Yu Suzuki handling Shenmue 3 with whatever ragtag team of retards he signed on for minimum wage was the worst thing that could have possibly happened to the franchise. It killed any and all forward momentum and now we’ll probably never see a continuation of it. This is also the same company who has heard probably millions of requests over the past two decades for a return of the Chao Garden mechanic and done absolutely nothing about it. They just really enjoy leaving money on the table or something I guess.

Sega doesnt want to spend money on alot their older IPs because they think they can wait till an indie dev comes along and then charge them a kings ransom. If the dev cant afford it then the games are left to rot, if the dev can afford it then Sega take a big % from everything for doing absolutely nothing. We've seen this happen with Panzer Dragoon, SOR4, Toejam and Earl etc etc. Indie dev pays a kings ransom, Sega doesnt help or contribute what so ever, collects money for doing nothing. You then have the issue of Sega not wanting indie devs taking their IPs and being super successful with them. Look at the bitterness and child like behaviour over SonicMania and the pettiness over Shinobi for SOR4. As for Shenmue well Sega never wanted to continue that because it costs millions to make. They prefer Yakuza because they can just make 1 game and place the whole series around that 1 city and change it slightly over time/reuse assets/sfx/textures etc. Its cheaper to make and more profitable for them. Shenmue 3 was always going to be as bad as what it was because even if it did have better graphics the story was always going to be what we got for 3s story and that's one of the most boring things about it. The dev does want to do shenmue 4 but after the shit stunt he pulled with 3 I doubt he'd get any backing.

True but sega did always intend to bring it to the home console and instead of adding stuff and improving to it (Like what Namco had done with Soul Edge/Calibur, Tekken etc etc) they just did straight up ports and never really learned their lesson from the Saturns failing. The Dreamcast was a brilliant system and Games like Soul Calibur, Rival Schools 2, mvc2 showed what could be done when bringing an arcade system to the home console. Sega however didn't seem to care about this which is one of their biggest failings with their own DC games. Just think how much better VF3, Fighting Vipers 2, Virtual on2 could have been had more been added to them than them just being straight up ports

There actually is a story, but it's mostly hidden in extra material. Long story short, all the games take place in the Virtual Era. We've solved all problems, so there's no need for war, but war starts regardless in the form of the commercialized "Limited War." the discovery of a mysterious moongate leads to the creation of mechs known as "virtuoids" that perform well in this war using V-Crystals pressed into disks and inscribed with data that then undergoes "Reverse Conversion" to form the Virtuoid, however, at some point, the moongate security system is triggered, causing the events of the first game (which the arcade cabinet is cannonically a machine sent into the past to find pilots to transfer the data of to the future to fight in the operation). After the events of Operation Moongate, the company that made most of the Virtuoids was splintered into 2 companies, DNA and RNA, which also end up serving as the main 2 sides in the limited wars. However, the 9th plant made to be able to modify reality as a Pan-Dimentional Reality Synthesizer, Tangram, goes out of control and starts a program to essentially erase reality, which the player is sent in to stop. These are gross simplifications off the top of my head, but you probably get the jist... The story mostly is there to justify the setting and explain what in the world the final boss is and why they're a threat. P.S. The 1st gen Virtuoids (Operation Moongate) are powered by a Saturn V-Converter, The 2nd gen (Oratorio Tangram) are powered by a Saturn (in the Model 3 cabinets or in the unlockable MSBS 5.2 mode on the Dreamcast) or Dreamcast V-Converter (Dreamcast and NAOMI versions), and the 3rd gen (seen in MARZ and Force) are powered by an original design V-Converter.

Part of this was also gleamed from me looking through wiki stuff and watching a playthrough of MARZ, since I only recently found and became interested in the series, so I am by no means an authority figure... Haven't beaten any of the games yet and only know how to pull off Temjin's blue slider on OT...
