Cyberpunk 2077 Is One Of The BEST RPGs Of The Generation | Review (PC)

Community Note: After asking my audience in a follow-up news video about the future of this review given that most people won't be accessing the experience I had due to the game being focused on a next-gen/PC, we decided as a community to leave the review up and emphasize once more this was on PC. All issues from console copies not being available, to holding CDPR accountable for their lacking of transparency, and a breakdown of the bugs/glitches along with my personal critique of aspects of the game is included. To emphasize once more, this game was reviewed on PC with zero patches until about 4 days into the single week I had with the game. Transparency is key here. If you are watching this as a PS4/XB1 gamer, please wait until further patches are out to fix this game. We will be returning to it then and breaking it down. I also changed the thumbnail. Comments fairly noted I was holding a PS4 copy and my reasoning behind this decision was purely because PC copies of the box art noted a digital code and no game disc in the box which I thought was perplexing. However, after tinkering in photoshop, I got something more representative and I think people being upset with that is fair. I appreciate the constructive criticism on that front and do keep it coming!
Cyberpunk 2077 has its set of snags like bugs and weird moments of disregarding your choice. However, you'll find yourself grabbed by an engaging, complex story, extremely diverse and build friendly gameplay, a wonderful score, deep characters, and plenty more making it well worth your while. It is all done on a AAA level that makes it feel as if nothing was left on the table during most moments of the experience. Cyberpunk 2077 releases December 10th for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Wanted to pin a new comment as a lot of folks are coming in after the PS4/XB1 debacle and trying to either misrepresent what is said or drag me. So I'll make it clear: - I immediately mentioned that the lacking of PS4/XB1 copies was suspicious and called CDPR shady for their actions - The bugs were awful. So awful that for the first time in my 7 years of reviewing I actually had a section dedicated to it. - My experience is on PC. - Been calling balls & strikes on CDPR for years now. Those who claim I only had positive coverage need only watch some pre-launch coverage, but here are two examples in the thick of the post TW3 hype -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6q9dZ6njcqrrJo as well as kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6q0enyphLZ1fJI - My favorite RPG of the generation is Divinity Original Sin 2. Closely behind that is Wasteland 3. I can confidently say I know what makes an RPG click (for me and others with similar taste) but when I refer to CP2077 as a "ONE of the best RPGs of the gen" I am lining it up with games such as Fallout 4, The Outer Worlds, Vampyr, etc. On a AAA level, I feel it's gameplay/build variety is very strong and I believe I make a good case for it! Feel free to disagree, my word is not fact, but it is something worth knowing. - The choices are weak. I also mention this but I see the comments exploding complaining how the choices are poor. That's about all I felt is necessary adding. My experience on PC was mostly very strong and I hope when CDPR finally fixes this thing (which know we know the scope of the problems is that it just shouldn't have launched across various systems) that people find the experience I had.

hey in one of the trailers cd pr said that some skill checks might also be determined by your characters origin, outfit and voice, so it's possible a lot of these "fake" skillchecks might be also determined by invisible variables. they talked a lot about how they wanted to keep a lot of stats hidden from the players, so there might be other things influencing weather or not npc will respect your charisma.

Bugs aside this game is just not that great. I don't get why people are giving it almost perfect reviews. How can people say the city feels so alive? Rpg of our generation? I guess people need to play more RPGs. It's just an ok action game with a good story. Crafting is lame, loot system is boring, melee combat is fucking laughable, cop and civilian AI is beyond shallow and the gun play just feels ok. I love the story and how the city looks, but that's it. It's insane that people are defending what cd project red did and if this same exact game the way it is right now, bugs, story and gameplay included was a bethesda or EA game i know for a fucking fact that the title for this video would not be about rpg of a generation. I thought I was just remembering wrong but now I know it is true, that he did infact have the ps4 version in his hand originally. I like a lot of this guy's content but this is ridiculous. You can't even get a fucking haircut or customize a car or customize your apartment and so on and so on. I know people don't think that's a big deal but when I'm playing a role playing game I like to get immersed in the game, if I was just looking for a first person shooter with a good story then yea I wouldn't care about things like that. @@peste2574 Yeah, it’s extremely linear other than end game decisions. Side quests act the same too, you play the side quests then right at the end you make a decision. Useless skill checks in the dialogue, it’s pretty useful for gameplay though but they put skill checks in the dialogue to create the illusion of choice. For all the faults of Detroit: Become Human, what you actually say in that game matters. We make fun of fallout 4 for having 4 options: Yes, No, More info, Sarcasm. In Cyberpunk besides the important decisions, dialogue is just YES, or More info. Even when your character(who is ALWAYS V) uses a skill check for a different solution, they’ll just shoot your opinion down.

Where the hell there is RPG in there? There is literally no option to roleplay anything, dialogues have no other options than what devs placed to push plot and story is railroaded hard until the very last few missions where you can finally decide something that will make difference in the end. Hey Ben, I don't see the reason to bash each other's experiences. My top two RPGs of this gen are Wasteland 3 & Divinity Original Sin 2. I'd argue I have a strong grip on what makes an RPG click and certainly wouldn't be worthy of "pity." I find CP2077's build diversity in a game doing so much else to be really stand out. Reflex + Cool and one-tap headshot crit-shot everything. Build diversity... I don't bash each other experience. I state facts. This game is not RPG. It's just GTA in Cyberpunk. Is it good game? Yeah, but unfinished as hell with good story. 7/10. But it's not RPG, nor it's what was promised. Why Street Cred has no influence on dialogues or how city react to you? Where are gang mechanics and gang wars? Where is gang reputations? You murder everyone - no gang cares at all. Where are gang specific quests where you support one, but lose support of rival gang. Where are RPG choices in quests? Where is attribute/skill that is social so you can have more options? Where is persuasion or intimidation? Where are hacking dialogue options in game? Where are my choices to play for Arasaka, not against it? The best I can give it is being Far Cry or better The Division. But hell it's not RPG.

You are one of those, who play it as GTA and being disappointed. :D Funny. Sorry, but i'm a huge RPG fan, since my childhood and i'm 31. I played more RPGs in my life than anything else. And after 50 hours of CP2077 i have to say, that's one of the most complex RPGs (without question) i've ever played. Just you people are butthurt, doesn't mean a RPG is no RPG. I have several savegames with different ways and it's breathtaking, how much variation is in nearly every mission. Often about life and death of different people, who can be important. And how the outcome defines the future. I'm sure you didn't even play the game.

Are the issues with skill checks potentially bugs? Also, I have passed some skill checks in dialogue, allowing me to answer and hear different angles of a discussion, but I don't get any exp or anything for choosing them. Is there no reward for passing skill checks that just have to do with simple conversations? (Meeting Evelynn for the first time for instance). If so, do you get exp if it's something that has to do with changing a mission or getting a discount or getting out of a fight etc? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Im playing on ps5 currently and I absolutely love it. I would go past saying it's a good game, imo it's a great game, fantastic naritive wise, as well as the characters. The characters have more personality and soul than the majority of narrative driven rpgs I've played.

I like games that are 25-30 hour long story/campaign. I can’t stand people who always cry about a game not being 60-100+ hours. I work for a living and have kids, I don’t have time to play something that long, 25-30 is like the perfect timing.

@AlanShukan Actually I was referring to the version given to reviewers beforw launch. It had DRM to prevent spreading of review copies. The retail version we have doesn't. Btw I run rtx 2060 and on high and medium settings for important settings like textures and low settings for cascading shadows etc without ray tracing and dlss enabled I average 80fps. The bugs are certainly present thats for sure with floating guns almost everywhere. But other than that I'm enjoying the game. What specs do you have which make it run at that 30fps?

@AlanShukan brahh you're exactly like me. I encountered most of the above mentioned one too and a few more. 9/10 for me too until bugs are fixed. Btw I simply cannot bring myself to drive in fpp as its really hard to drive and keep running over people and objects. Do you drive slow or smth?

I felt like i would leave a comment for all the people looking for info on the console version. I got the game 2 days early and i'm 10 hours in. Playing on ps5 via bac compat. The game had the same bugs Matty described for the pc version, but they were LARGELY fixed with the 2 patches that came even BEFORE the day one patch. Today i played 3 hours after both pre day 1 patches and i encountered 0 bugs. Exactly 0. But there is another problem. CRASHES. In 10 hours of play the game crashed 5 times. It usually happens when a phone call or message comes in from a character. This is pretty rough not gonna lie, but it's made better by the game's autosave system. The most i had to redo after a crash where exactly 3 minutes of gameplay. I think these issues will be fixed soon too. I hope this helped somebody :)

Crashes are bugs. They are caused by or triggered by conflicts in the code. It's funny cos he should be slating the game for this many bugs and crashes. Even after it was delayed, it's still released like this.

Definitely play the side quests, especially the character oriented ones. There are secret endings in the game that you can unlock that are easily the best endings of the game.

My opinion on this game is like: imagine you buying a car and you are promised full option but you get standard option. You see the car from the outside and you think "wow, its exactly like in my dreams" and then you hop in it and you see you don't even have AC, let alone more premium options. No adjustable suspension, no next gen display, no massage in seats, no climatronic, etc. and in the end you see that even the engine doesn't work properly.

@@s0r480 I didn't say game of the gen tho. It's one of the better RPGs of the gen (for me) where I value DOS2, Wasteland 3, Vampyr, and TOW. It's all taste, but there's plenty of more in the generation I liked more.

Honestly I wasn’t aware of the game until the last delay in November,so I’m excited to play as a nomad I’m a huge fan of fallout 4 and the mad max game (I know that their not related except wasteland ish) I’m hoping that this will get me back into rpgs like Skyrim and the wastelanded themed games

@@COHOFSohamSengupta I was referring to Gwent. Completely different game when it first came out. I got so annoyed by the changes, I just stopped playing it. Not because it's a bad game, I just got tired of relearning the rules. They did the same thing to the Witcher 3. UI is different, inventory, changes to the way npcs act, added more dialogue. Launch Witcher is a different game from today's Witcher. Even the graphics are different. CDPR don't update their games like other devs. You're going to see things taken out and things added in within the coming months. That's why I'm waiting a few months before playing.
