Cynthia’s depth of knowledge about the technicality of singing is eye opening. I feel like we don’t get much analysis from the performers, so this was refreshing.

I see what Cynthia is saying. The dynamics of “I’m here“ change many times from soft to loud and then soft again and then to loud again, and then soft again. so it’s not just technically you have to sing loud and then soft again that’s an issue, that’s not that hard I would think. But emotionally you’re going from opening up like she says to closing back up and starting from scratch again. That’s a lot of back and forth emotionally. And like she said, you basically have to stand still, with a bit of walking, in order to sing that song, whereas with “defying gravity“ there’s a lot of action that, facilitates the singing. Someone else also said that defying gravity uses more mixed voice anyway which is helpful and makes it easier to sing big.
@Red1Green2Blue3Ай бұрын
It's not just the loud and soft. It's the key which require vocal dexterity. It's incredibly difficult to do it without cracking etc

I love the “I’m here” comment at the end. If you think, you can do it, just remember the emotional and vocal journey from the beginning to “I’m gonna siiiing ouuut”

Cynthia is such an inspiration. Her soul shines all the time. And definitely a fashion icon in her own way, so different from others, I am always curious to see what she will come up with this time... She is deserving of all the attention she is getting from Wicked, and more!

I think Defying is more accessible to more singers for sure. It's Broadway singing, open high belts, which a lot of people focus on anyway because its impressive and we wanna sound impressive. But Im Here is more subdued in many parts, deep notes, and obviously needs a lot of emotional depth, also its a story of specifically a black woman whereas Defying doesnt have a definite ethnicity to it, therefore more accessible.
@Rosannasfriend29 күн бұрын
That’s right. Defying gravity will always be a bigger song because it’s very epic and it’s it’s like an anthem. That excites people more. Whereas “I’m here“ is very sentimental and introspective. It’s not quite as flashy, even though there are some big moments.

Of course “I’m here “ is more difficult. It’s a black song sung by a black chick. It’s always gonna be hard and Cynthia also goes really high on one note that no other Celie hits ( other Celie’s don’t go as high)

@Rosannasfriend27 күн бұрын
Mind you that her reaction is understandable. She shouldn’t have been verified in the first place. Because imagine you have a picture with your face is shown, and people are saying “we prefer the one where her face isn’t shown”. Is it really hard to understand that she could feel some type of way about that? So you could try to look at it more than one way here. Yes, the original Broadway poster had the eyes down, blah blah blah. But she would have to wonder why you prefer that type of pose for her when what was given to you is something that shows her face.

I hope nobody gets me wrong in this, the following comment comes from a place of worry. I noticed in the latest interviews of the wicked press tour that Cynthia has gotten so skinny with sunken cheeks. I really loved her rounder faced so now i feel like she looks a little sickish and gaunt. Is she ill or did she say anything about losing weight for her role as Elpheba? I mean she is stunning still both inside and out but a little frail looking :o
@Rosannasfriend29 күн бұрын
I kind of wonder the same thing. We’ll see what happens when this press tour is finally over.
@sans3go34214 күн бұрын
She got fit for the movie and she keeps a routine - they filmed over a year ago She's also run marathons before. If she was sick you would hear it in the voice. Weight loss can be detrimental to a vocalist look at Maria Callas, and Adele
