There are two entities in what is broadly termed as government. As in the citizen makeup the haves and have not are the two dominant entities in the voting scenario.So too the political scenario are made up of have power and the power seekers. The dangling carrot is the Salaries awaiting the seekers and the (The have nots ). The other side is the holders . So the voters are the balls being kicked around for the seekers to score goals to unseat the holders . The problem for the seekers is the voter makeup. The black voters are in the majority they will vote for black holders The seekers only have the minority voters to try to unseat the holders and so the ding dong battle rages on each election year. The outcome is thus . Holders hold (Salaries) Seekers (static ) Losers voters go home to shacks and so the dance goes on. Losers are always losers. Poor. Seekers disgruntled. I believe that an impeached Judge can indeed hold the position of a member of Parliament. I also believe that the impeachment was political and biased. Regardless of how one may feel about the positions of the then Judge, it is of no matter. He still should be able to hold a Parliament position.

That in and of itself reduces the impact of a vote of any sole member; b. secondly the JSC is by definition an ADVISORY commission to the national government in matters relating to the Judiciary or administration of justice; c. THIRTEEN(13) members of the JSC, interview candidates for judicial posts and makes recommendations for possible appointments. s. and so the opinion of Dr John Hlophe, in case him being selected to participate in these interviews ONLY constitute 1/13th of the COLLECTIVE of interviewers; d. as far as 'dealing with complaints about judges is concerned: well, it's up to the president of the JSC to decide if HE deems it wise to permit Dr. Hlophe in these kinds of deliberations. My final conclusion: VERY MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!!!

So far I have never heard or read about someone who has conducted an objective analysis which helps us to answer the question: WHAT IS THE OPTIMAL SIZE OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN CABINET? A similar question may be asked: Does Gauteng deserve the same number of MECs as Northern Cape? Alternatively, does Tshwane Metro deserve the same number of MMCs as Mangaung Metro? I am of the view that the fact that neo-liberals advocate for a leaner government and the President promised one does not necessarily make it right. Beware of the Washington Declaration.

I am.confused about this democracy and majority because I thought when we voted the majority become a government but in this case we are advocating a no. What would happen if South Africa can have 100 political parties, how government going to reflect the will of the people? How and when the majority is not enough?

You don't understand the meaning of majority. While a party getting 45% of the vote got more votes than anyone else , it still didn't get a majority.

I think you make a very important point on how identity politics from populist style leadership limits working together if external parties cannot be dominated. Perhaps the era of relying on singular political figures to 'save' the country is coming to an end? I think balancing ego and servanthood in politics is a bloody hard but good pendulum to keep a politicians authenticity in check😅

ALL the parties in GNU are legally bound to act in the best interest of South Africa &South Africans. So the political parties in GNU can’t have their cake and eat in that. They can’t use their government positions to peruse their individual political part interests. Eg DA, prior to the elections was litigating the Com-Com on their “public interest mandate. Now that DA is part of government it must walk the talk in separating party from government.

Hlope J is only a debate because the Constitution was drafted assuming separation of powers as common cause. i said the the same when Mogoeng J tried to step over towards politics. I don't think its a valid debate to imagine away the existence and reason for the principle of separation of powers. While he is no longer a judge, as a former JP, I think it's a stretch to imagine away the influence and power he has wielded in such a senior office of the Judiciary
