Gidday from a 22 nut down in New Zealand! I've watched a lot of 22 vids and yours are great. I've shot a lot of ammo in testing too, eventually finding a lot of Eley Match that got me to a 0.293 average for a 5x5@50 with a Lithgow LA101. Just recently I added a standard weight synthetic CZ457 - the most basic model. Anyhoo after only a limited amount of ammo testing (if you guys think you have an ammo shortage try living where we haven't had a shipment of Lapua or SK for two years). I have a tiny hoard of Eley Target left, not even a selected lot, and today managed a 100 meter 10 shot group of 1.1", 9 shots went into 0.65, this very light rifle is difficult to shoot well, but shoot well it does. I would love to hear more about tuners from someone like you, your approach is great. Thanks

Gidday Foster Price! Welcome to the channel and THANK YOU for the kind words! Congrats on the new CZ, the groups with both rifles are amazing! Take a look at the test card that came with your CZ and it will tell you the ammo that CZ tested with. I believe, but after emails to CZ can not confirm (they would not tell me) that CZ headspaces for RWS. Also if you can not find RWS, I so know that RWS makes Norma ammo and others have great success with it. Okay, about the tuners. First off my CZ457 does not need a tuner to shoot great BUT it shoots great with a specific lot of SK match and RWS rifle match that I can not find! (I feel your pain). So I bought the Eric Cortina EC2 tuner to compensate for ammo my rifle does not like and it works well, very well! BUT you have to test all the settings over again with each different ammo brand and type. Here is my advice if you buy a tuner… Find the setting that provides the best precision with your ammo and do NOT touch the setting. Once you move off your setting it, in my case, it does not reset exactly and you have to start all over again. Weird but it just works that way. Also buy as much ammo of the same lot that shoots well with the tuner. Testing is expensive and a pain in the ass. So find the best setting, set and forget until you change brands. Feel free to email me with any question as I can respond with pictures at Fairviewprecision@gmail.com Cheers mate!

Well done. I would add to the cleaning regiment, a borescope is almost required to check on that pesky carbon ring.

Hello Karl! Welcome to the channel! Thank you for the kind words. I completely agree with you about the borescope. You are obviously an advanced shooter and your advice to own and use one is a must. In making this video I was trying to kinda keep it simple for the beginner and not overload with info but now that you mention it, I should have included that! EXCELLENT ADVICE! Karl, please feel free to offer any advice on this channel! I welcome it as my goal is to build a community of learning, friends and fun! Cheers mate and enjoy the ridiculous challenges that I shoot! 😊

I have watch some experiments with tuners on .22s. They turn the setting until it seems to shoot the best. But the issue is when you do the same test again it’s not repeatable. Tuners work better for center fire reloads since the specs can be exact. .22 rimfire ammo just isn’t as consistent as needed for a tuner to be helpful.
@fairviewprecision
@fairviewprecision 11 ай бұрын
Thank yo for commenting! Yes tuners can be hit or miss with rifles. There are so many variables to consider and that is why I test so much! With my CZ bill barrel it does improve accuracy and there is more to the story of me using a tuner and achieving the accuracy that I do with it. I’m working on a video to go further in depth so check back and maybe it will change your mind? Everything comes down to barrel harmonics when the rifle is fired. Bull barrels like mine have a tighter sine wave than a pencil or tapered barrel will have. What the tuner is doing is adjusting the barrel length so that the harmonic or energy wave is at the tip of the muzzle so that the projectile leaves the barrel without influence from the wave. Granted I use the ammunition that my barrel is head spaced for and is match grade so there is consistency in bullet weight size and load. If I were to use a tuner with ammo such as CCI or lesser consistency then the tuner would be much less effective because the harmonics would change with each round. The tuner can not compensate for that. Another “trick” up my sleeve for achieving accuracy is that I weigh, measure and sort my ammo! The video will go over and explain that to the best of my ability. By doing these things I achieve incredible consistency and repeatability! I’d love to discuss further if you would like! You can always hit me up in email if that’s easier than posting here. FairviewPrecision@gmail.com Cheers and happy shooting! 😊

Nice video. I'm currently looking at getting a 457 Varmit for an upgrade. I've been shooting silhouette with a Rem 580 I learned to shoot with over 50 years ago. It will hold it's own with the high dollar rifles, but I would like something a little more accurate. The 580 will shoot MOA, but for some of the challenges they come up with, like golf balls at 100yrds, it struggles a little. The 457 looks like a good platform to start with, and won't break the bank.

Hi aracnid! Man I’ve always loved the stock on the 580. The cheek riser looks so cool! I have a target master 510 that is extremely accurate as well. Remington made such great 22’s back then! You won’t go wrong with a CZ 457! Mine is by far the most accurate factory barrel that I have ever shot. I love it. Let me know if you have any questions about them! Cheers!

When you go to buy your CZ, here is a tip. Before you do the paperwork, ask to see the factory shot card in the box. If it’s a tight group, it’s probably a buy!

@fairviewprecision Thank you sir, but I won't get that option. My LGS is going to have to order it for me, so I'll be stuck with whatever comes. I suppose, at worst, I can contact CZ with any issues.

Great video also a big fan of boretec. The carbon cleaner is great for getting the carbon ring out the Camber And tuners definitely work and more so with ammo that isn't quite what your barrel likes the best.

@fairviewprecision Жыл бұрын
Hey Brendon! Glad to see you again. I agree, bore tech is great stuff and so is the tuner. I had made a mistake a while back with bore tech though. When I knew I had a bad carbon ring a few months ago, I switched to just using the carbon cleaner and a bit later my accuracy fell off horribly and I could not figure it out. It drove me nuts! If you see my z challenge fail video, it was during that time. I did not mention it in the video as sounding like an excuse maker… After just a few rounds, the rifle shot horrible. Well, after reading the bore tech product description, the carbon cleaner is only for carbon! Lol! So I went back to incorporating the rimfire blend and had really bad lead fouling. I now use their chameleon gel with a .17 brush wrapped in patches. It was amazing the amount of fouling that came out the bore! Now accuracy is back. Great stuff! My tuner sweet spot is 1st turn on 17. It’s incredible how tight my groups are with RWS rifle match. Anyway, thanks for commenting, hope all is well across the pond, cheers mate! 😊

I’m not sure if I mentioned this before.. RWS makes the Norma ammunition, even has the R stamp on the cartridge and the lubricant seems the exact same. The lot # on the box is the same nomenclature as RWS. I’ve shot a bit of Norma tac-22 before with a different rifle but was gifted a box of the Match ammo red box and plan to test it soon in the CZ. Norma is much less $ and much easier to find, very curious about this. Have you tested it? Cheers! 😊

@@fairviewprecision strangle enough yep was trying it today with the V2 and tuner break. It was trying to group like 3 in the same hole and the other 2 would take it out to about 3/4 of an inch. There's £10 a brick difference to SK standard plus in the UK and that works a lot better for me. Not sure yet but I think the tuner break is working better with the 1710 Need to explore past 60 to see if there's anything else better

@@brendonbenson I was looking through my log book and found an entry from a year ago that SK rifle match, lot #20856/13823 did very well in the CZ, especially at 100 yards. That is interesting because Lapua does not group well for me. Man! This .22 ammunition is like a puzzle, right? I guess that is what makes all of this so fun! 😂😂😂😂

I just purchased the 457 varmint mtr. I'm curious why you chose the At-one. I looked at it, and I am not sure why I didn't purchase it other than the 16" barrel. I liked the video. Well done.
@fairviewprecision
@fairviewprecision Жыл бұрын
Hi Alfred, welcome to the channel! Congrats on the MTR, you are going to love it! Good question on why I bought the At-One. The reasons that I bought it are simple. 1) I knew that I wanted a 457 and when I bought it the pandemic and gun shortage was happening, they were extremely hard to come by. The morning that my favorite gun store listed that they had one, I went immediately. 2) when I asked to see the factory shot card and it was very sub moa at 50 yards, I bought it. I really had no preference which model other than the European models with iron sights because I was only going to use a scope. I was not afraid of the short bull barrel because I knew that a .22 cartridge finishes it’s powder burn within 16 inches. To be clear, I have a love/hate relationship with the stock. To me it could be better with features, that’s the hate part. The love part is the rifle is so dang accurate that I’m honestly afraid to change it! Thanks for the question and please feel free to ask me anything about it. If you prefer you can also email me at Fairviewprecision@gmail.com Cheers and happy shooting with your MTR!! 😊

Hello I have the same rifle and am wondering if you did any bedding of the action. Also what tq do you use for the action bolts? Thanks for the good video.
@fairviewprecision

Thank you and welcome to the channel! The stock is pillar bedded but that is all. I’m very surprised how well my rifle shoots without bedding the action as well. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with the stock! Lol! I love wood stocks and I love the overall accuracy of the setup but there are definitely a few “refinements” that I would like. Such as a thumb rest. That is the reason for the grip tape. It’s only for hand placement angle repeatability after cycling the bolt. What about you? How do you like your CZ and what, if anything, would you change?

I would love to see what you do to get the most out of your setup. Also I’d love to know what ammo your rifle likes, mine is RWS. I buy mine from Champions Choice and Creedmoor if you need some. Check your test card that came with your rifle, should be RWS.

Hi, i have 457 with 1/2x20 thread on the end of the barrel, ECv2 has 1x20, how did you install it??
@fairviewprecision
@fairviewprecision 11 ай бұрын
Hello and welcome to the channel! Thank you so much for asking your question! This should help… CZ threads the 457 barrels with a 1/2x28 pattern and not 1/2x20. (Refer to your instruction manual for clarification or download it from CZ USA.) Installation is super simple but with the EC2 tuner you will also need to purchase a 1/2x28 thread adapter. Eric Cortina has an installation video. For your application the installation starts at 9:20 but the entire video is well worth watching. Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6jTn3qaYtdjiLssi=RNWvF-7M6uPzmTeE Funny you ask the question because at the time of this reply I am working on a video to try and explain how it works. Happy shooting and please don’t be a stranger, I’d love to hear about your 457! Happy shooting! Cheers!

@stiehl8455 check out the rules at the NRL22 website. Section 5b. Hope this helps!! Base division is intended to be budget oriented. Any rifle system that comes in under or at a combined MSRP of $1300, as listed on the manufacturer’s website, shall be eligible to compete in Base division. This combined MSRP price is for the rifle and scope only. It excludes scope rings and bases, bipods, suppressors, data card holders, magazines, spare magazine holders, auto bolt releases, aftermarket triggers, extended magazine releases, weight kits, hand grips, bolt knobs, and barrel tuners - these examples are considered accessories to the rifle.
