Just had this video pop up in my feed and it is so refreshing to see such fine execution and finishing placement by a shooter using standard run of the mill equipment that regular blue collar family men can actually go to a normal retailer and even afford to buy!

Thanks B20! They are both great rifles but I think there are going to be more options with the CZ. Also, you don’t see near as many people shooting the Tikka for rimfire as much as the CZ’s. Be aware, there are no 10 round CZ mags to be had at the moment. L3I is working on some and should be out this year sometime. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼

Hello Ray I just want to say thank you for somehow making me open up my wallet. After watching you and Josh up here in Northern Ontario I decide to order the MDT CZ 457 .22. I will be topping it with a BURRIS RT-25 SCOPE 5-25X56MM - SCR2 MIL RETICLE. I am looking forward to enjoying shooting this rig during the summer. It’ll be much more cost effective than using my 7mm-08 or .308 when it comes to ammo pricing. I started my hunting career using a Cooey bolt action .22 hunting for grouse this CZ should be a little more accurate🤣 I really enjoy your KZbin feed and am happy to see you including rimfire. I’d have to say you are a great presenter and an unbelievable shooter! I have duct taped my wallet shut when I watch your videos😆

This video is really informative. I have been getting some gear together with the intention to get started in PRS rimfire or NRL competitions. I'm completely new to the sport and don't know anybody who competes. I've just recently joined a sportsmans club that has long range shooting. I know they host a PRS match there. Once I actually start shooting there, I'm hoping to find a Shooting/PRS mentor of such. Does that sound like a reasonable expectation. There is another PRS comp close to where I live, but the range is private. I'm hoping to spectate that I can learn and meet some people. Thanks for the content.

Mr. Ray, Excellent video and information, and I like you channel. I would like to suggest you try NRA Silhouette small bore, which I did for years. 22lr, shooting standing offhand from 40 to 100 meters at fairly small steel targets. (Large bore is out to 500 meters, which I also did) I liked PRS shooting about a decade ago, but it has gotten so.... Gucci I guess I'll say. SO MANY accessories, shooting cards, pillows, etc. It has moved too far away from practical to me, never mind the astronomical cost. I would love to see a PRS 22lr Hunter division- rifle and scope weight limits, standard stocks (no chassis), and a bipod at max, no Arca, weights or pillows. The theory being, you can only shoot with what you'd be willing to hike all day with, as in a hunting situation. In fact, start the hunter division with a 5 mile hike where you have to carry all the gear you're going to use for the day, including food and water. I understand the PRS you do is fun, but I like the theory of 3 position, using body mechanics to shoot, with minimal or zero accessories. There is quite the learning curve there. I do know there are NPR hunter matches (large bore), but in the videos I've seen there are tons of accessories, bags and fancy tripods. The payoff of all this being when it's time to hunt in the field, the shooter feels much more prepared and used to shooting with minimal accessories. This theory leads me to suggest the NRA Silhouette shooting to you. After shooting off hand like that, hunting for a large target like deer seems easy.
@XRING
@XRING Жыл бұрын
Great comment Johnny. However, I did do a lot of videos in the past covering exactly what you spoke of. I started in NRA High Power back in the day 30 years ago before they allowed scopes. Took that all the way to High master with across the course shooting at 200,300 and 600. I then did some of the silhouette matches and won a few pins for cleaning racks etc. ( just a little too slow paced for me). I also have been competing in the CD matches which is the same as the hunter matches for the most part for the last 5 years. I am definitely familiar and accomplished with all of the disciplines you suggested. I like to jump around. 😁

CRPS 🇨🇦 is talking about harmonizing their rules with PRSRS 🇺🇸 this year, but so far this gun is NOT in the CRPS production division up here 🇨🇦 (we have a $700USD MSRP cap on the production rifles). And you know what, I think that's ok: I'm in the camp that the CZ457 is an entry level open rifle, the Mark II in my mind is a production gun and I think bumping the 457 down to production would disproportionately hurt the Savage/Rem/Rugar guys. The fact that CZ 457 guys keep doing so well in open tells me that's the right cut off. P.S. That's not to say I don't appreciate the work you put in: congrats on the double win!
@XRING
@XRING Жыл бұрын
Interesting and thanks for the comments. I disagree with it being an entry level open rifle since you could still purchase the CZ 457 Varmint for 649.00 msrp.
@wilfdarr
@wilfdarr Жыл бұрын
@@XRING But that's exactly why I like the Canadian cutoff where it is: the most basic 457 costs more than all but the most expensive Mark II (BSEV): the savages, Remingtons, and Rugers really aren't in the same class, and the fact that the 457s constant are on the podium in overall standings tells me that's the right place for them. If someone podiumed with a Mark II you'd be impressed, a lot more than if someone podiumed with a 457, right? I think the gents running the CRPS got that one right.

@XRING
@XRING Жыл бұрын
Thanks Advdave and thanks for following the channel. If you can’t make it to the range you could always setup a ladder 5’ or something like that and use a thumbtack or small sticker on the wall for an aiming point. Try to work on dry fire if your rifle is ok for that or use a snap cap. The biggest thing is time management, I would try to give yourself 90 seconds and move from position to position making sure you’re breaking clean shots on your aiming point. 5 positions, two shots each. It’s easy to cheat yourself and shoot faster than you actually will so make sure that you are breaking really good shots.

Same CZ and similar scope. I guess I didn't know that I needed so much extra. Hey Anthony. It’s pretty simple. You just need a cordless drill, 3/4 paddle bit and drill bit…but don’t remember the size. The sizes are listed in the 419 literature. Just take the action out and decide where you want it on the stock. The ranger is a smaller stock so don’t order too long of a rail. The total time to install is about 30 mins.

I am eagerly awaiting your upcoming spotting scope comparison video! (I have a Burris XTR Signature, which has the optional mil eyepiece reticle, but dang it is heavy. Superb glass.). By the way, Are you still suggesting no need for bluetooth capability in rangefinding bino's with AB? You and Rick once liked that feature but I believe you subsequently remarked during a chat that you now recommended buying only laser ranging bino's w/o worrying about data transfer to your Kestrel or phone. Right?

Hey Outlaw and thank you. Yes, you are correct. I really don’t link the binos to anything anymore. It’s nice to have for maybe hunting applications but not necessary for PRS. It can save time when doing your data card but it also eats batteries.

I know what you mean. I don’t normally shoot production and this was just a project for me. I really didn’t want to drill into the back end of the stock. There are all kind of kydex riser options for someone that’s wants something more aesthetically pleasing.

I have a Victor Company cheek riser in OD green to match my Manners stock on my CZ VPT. It is rock solid and looks more aesthetically pleasing than other options out there.

Great info, but I have some questions, what height Vortex Precision Matched Rings did you us? Is that a 12" or 14" Area 419 Universal rail?

My MTR has shot a .154 group (5 shot) with Lapua Midas+ match ammo, and it's average group size with that ammo is .214... this gun can shoot on par with $4k custom rifles.

Great video making this comparison to promote this sport ! 👍 Especially for those who think they can’t afford or compete in 22LR competition !

BTW Ray, would you recommend the 16" or 20" barrel for long range accuracy? Thinking of getting the 457 MTR over here...Thanks

Hello Jeff. I would probably look at the Arken EP5, Bushnell match pro, or the Vortex strike eagle. I have zero experience with Athlon but I do hear good things. I actually own and use the first 3 I listed with no issues. I’m actually going to do a review on the Bushnell in the next week or so. This gives you 3 options for well under 1k.

If you're competing with a semi auto, do you still have to go to bolt lock to move positions? I've never done a sanctioned competition, but I like to train on comp style stages at home.

Stagged before the buzer with the bolt locked in the rear. BEFORE moving positions, RO's require you to engage the safety and state a verbal audiable confirmation the word "Safe". I personally plan on competing in some local NRL22 matches with a semi

What was the ring height ? Those Vortex match come in 1.00” and 1.26” so I’m thinking the 1.26”
