Oh, forgot to mention. "Play" was composed by Kanami for just an instrumental only song for their concerts but the members liked it so much Miku wrote lyrics for it. And now we have "Play." Yes, "Play" is MISA` epic show in a modest and somewhat shy "Hey, my name is MISA and I play bass" style:) Especially the whole concert at April 14, 2018 (sold as an additional DVD along with the single "Start Over") is her one big show. All the girls are great there, but it`s her who plays sensational for over two hours.

Thrill is a very good song but it was from their first album and they have really refined their sound and gotten much better since then. Every album they put out is better than the last. Their last two albums, Just Bring It and World Domination are fantastic from beginning to end. As much as I love everyone in this band I'd have to say Akane the drummer is my favorite. She is such a beast behind the kit. Their songs are usually simple in their structure, verse, pre chorus, chorus, verse, per chorus, chorus, bridge with solos then another chorus. However the songs themselves are very complicated in that the music is changed up in each verse. Throughout the song they perfectly place instrumental flourishes. Also, while they definitely have their unique sound all their songs have their own feel and are not repetitive sounding. They are very good musicians and songwriters. The whole contrast between the cute young ladies in cute maid outfits and the hard edged sound of their music was exactly what Miku, the rhythm guitarist and founding member was going for. It's very tongue in cheek and meant to be sort of jarring at first.

LOL... both your faces at the intro was priceless. Akane is the drummer, Misa is the bassist. They met each other while at music university. Both are top tier musicians and, IMHO, are 2 of the best in their disciplines playing currently. They are both EXTREMELY talented. The fact that Misa plays a 5 string bass is very impressive and the sounds that Akane gets out of her smallish kit is amazing. Her double kicks are insane. Now, all of that said is not to take away from the rest of the members; Saiki, lead singer, Kanami lead guitar, and Miku rhythm guitar as they are all just as talented but you called out the bass and drums in your commentary. :) Yes, Puzzle - Live would be a great one to watch as well.

BTW - IMO, if we can call the members in a male rock band "guys", we can say "girls" for a female rock band. It's Rock 'n Roll, right?! What makes Band Maid first class for me is if you see them without the flashy lights, pyrotechnics and post production audio mixing, they still sound this good. There is a fan can clip from one of their US shows, it looks like they were playing in a barn, but the stage presence and playing ability is all there. For me, I love the fact they do not conform to the standard 'rock chic' mould. No leather trousers, torn T-shirt tops, body piercings tattoos etc. They don't find it necessary to be the tired and incredibly boring, predictable 'bad girl' that seems to go with the standard rock girls image. When they first started playing they were good but not this good. You can see how they have improved from their earlier performances. Just my view but I prefer the earlier shows without all what you see here but that is from watching a DVD point of view. To be at a live show such as this would be excellent. You will get a lot of Band Maid reaction requests and they have many excellent songs. & Yeah Play is pretty bass heavy. Although really the big thing about this band is that you can very clearly hear the bass most the time even without it being the main focus. Which is actually rather rare. Very often the bass is just sort of there so having it have a clear distinct presence is a very welcome change

The trio of Akane ( drum), Misa (base), Kanami (lead guitar) are fabulous in this band...BTW - the drums started this number followed by Misa and than Kanami.....Akane was very impressive on the drums (like usual) and really kept the beat going all through the song. She is a drum beast! Thanks for the reaction video,....you can also do Puzzle, Moratorium, Daydreaming ( a rock ballad), or also their 2 videos under their April Fools band name...Band Maiko....thanks.

This is my very first Band-Maid experience and I have to say that I’m very impressed by their musicianship and their stage presence. I’m going to check out more of their songs because I liked this song so much!!!😃. On another note, I know you have a very long list of requested songs to react to, but I strongly recommend going back to reacting to Metal Church. In my opinion, they’re a very underrated band and I love a lot of their songs, especially with their singer, Mike Howe. I recommend songs from their albums, Blessing in Disguise, The Human Factor, Hanging in the Balance , XI and they recently released a new album called Damned if you Do! Songs I recommend the most are: Fake Healer, Rest in Pieces (April 15, 1912), Badlands, The Spell can’t be Broken, The Human Factor, Date with Poverty, In Mourning, In Harm’s way, Agent Green, Gods of Second Chance, Losers in the Game, Waiting For a Savior and Down to the River. I don’t have their new album yet, but I’ll be getting it soon! Have a great week! 😊

Many others have noted the skill and importance of Akane's drumming. And she does it with a rather small kit. Some have given her the nickname "The Beast". A recurring Band-Maid gag is how much Akane likes to eat, especially noodles. They make reference to it in their two April Fool's Band-Maiko videos. Which you should look at as well. Great Band, Great song and great reaction. This is a great LIVE band you need to try Take Me Higher LIVE (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHfcipyGeb-tmtk) and really see how good they really are especially the rhythm section (bass/drums/guitar). These ladies really are a great Rock band with some Metal, Punk and Pop elements mixed in. Take Me Higher has several riffs with Misa/bass and Kanami/guitar really going at it. Hey another great all female band from Japan with a real 80's metal sound with some Pop vocals that work great is Mary's Blood, try Marionette if you want to see shredding on a guitar then Saki is your woman, the band is great but she is wicked good (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g32wY6iki5Werbc) get ready to support you jaw before it drops (LOL)!!!!

@Via Verde "Because I did not notice that the Band Maid fans are doing the same in the case of the Babymetal videos." Sadly some do. More often on BABYMETAL reactions than in the official video comments. I'm a big fan of both, but the genres are not the same, and the entire presentation is quite different. Very much an apples and oranges kind of thing. BTW, in a couple of months both "cute little girls" will be in their twenties.

You haven't done many band-maid yet. Oh God... I'm telling you now. I'm a pretty fickle kinda person who usually get bored with bands pretty quickly as soon as they start playing commercial, mainstreamy songs. All great bands have about 2-3 golden albums that have about 5 great songs each. But that's about it. Half the time I only have up to 5 favorite songs from any great bands. But when it comes to band-maid, I have too many songs I like. I have band-maid only playlist that has 80+ songs. That's like a guiness book record for me. That's how good they are. You asked if dice was their best song, of course there are heaps! It's all subjective though, because it's more like which one is your favorite, instead of which one is the best. Their skills have progressed beyond your imagination. Their new album 'unseen world' offers many songs with metal and prog edge. Some have grungy feel, but no matter how fast/slow, or technical/simple the songs are, you can tell it's them, because they have their signature sound. They write and produce their own music now with some help from sound engineers and directors of the videos, etc.

Kay & Jay, you two Do realize that posting Band Maid, Baby Metal, etc (any recent Japanese band) will get you a copyright strike here on youtube. Getting 3 strikes and youtube takes your channel down permanently. It won't happen the day you post them, but it will happen eventually. You guys have posted much more than 3 videos by these bands. @@sopwithsnoopy8779 Let's hope for the better. Not all videos get noticed and blocked, actually. I think if it gets published initially, it means it has passed a robotic filter. After this, it may be blocked only by a direct request from their recording label. Some videos are under stricter control, like Order, for example. But even in this case, Shadow John, for example, still managed to escape the scrutiny, and his reaction video for Order is still up and running. I once published the whole Shinkiba Studio Coast live concert, and it gathered something like 60k views, before it was noticed by the label, and was removed. So, this is not inevitable, the blockage...

@@KayandJay Must be time for another Babymetal :) The performances from the 2013 Legend 1997 from Su's 16th birthday don't seem to get blocked as much (with care). I would suggest Headbanger or Babymetal Death (the closer for this show) for some theater.

Besides Lovebites and BandMaid, you should try another group of female musicians. I never know where to start with these ladies, they even have multiple bands and both the big ones have some variety within their songs. I like Band maid as well, however my favorite band from Japan is Versailles because they did there own unique twist on symphonic metal. So my suggestion would be Versailles - History from the other side.
