Ji'Nae and Jalaya say they haven't seen their father in nearly 8 years. Their dad, Hayward, says part of that reason is because he's in and out of prison but also their mother, Jennifer, has created a divide between him with their kids. Now grown women, Ji'Nae and Jalaya, want to be reunited with their dad but he wants to know if he's really their biological father. Can Karamo help this family work through their division?

The father is emotionally immature. The only way he seems to know how to cope is by blaming his children's mother, which is unfair because she seems to have gone over and beyond to try to accommodate him. I don't agree with the children reading the arguments between the adults, but I understand how they would want answers. I wish them all healing.

That right there he don’t have the tools to be a father. Prison breaks people. And the government keep them broken!!! But emotion for people like that is a commodity. And an expensive one. Because they feel so low. Still not an excuse. If u want to u will. My mother was on drugs and in and out of jail. And when she got tired she stayed outta trouble. But it was hard for her to feel she had a right to her children because other people raised them. But she did the best she can and her biggest lesson to me is letting me know it’s not what u go through it’s how u get through it!!!!

To all that have a absent parent. I just want you to know, I had an absent mother and we were in the same house. I learned how to become a woman from a man. Same here. I had an absent mother as well; that I lived in the same house with. Everyone around us( my siblings and I) ; was more important to her than us. Never supportive , couldn't speak to her about serious things, important things that I needed to know ( how to be a wife, how to love, have a relationship with God, respect myself , etc) it was all the opposite . My dad was no help either. My own truth; he was never really there. When we did see him; he went in private with her for like an hour or two, play like he wanted to spend time with us for a few minutes then he was gone like the wind. My mother would tell us bad things about him; but she was no different. I think the both of them didn't want us; she just happened to have gotten stuck with us. She wasted no time each day, to show us; that she didn't care for us. Many times, she would say it. We have heard worse but that one always stuck with me; along with other hurtful things. I have love for the both of them, but I keep my distance. I pray for them every now and again. I always told myself to never be like neither one of them. Now I have God, My husband, my children and myself. I've been the happiest I've ever been in my life. God has given me , more than I've ever wanted or needed; and I am grateful for him.

My father has been in the grave since I was 6 years old; he was only 28. All these years later, the pain is still beyond words. I try to understand that we all go through things in life, but when males like Hayward make decisions to not be available for his children, I find it very difficult to show empathy. If I want to see my dad, I have to go to the cemetery and look at a headstone. I am glad that he's staying in contact with his daughters, but they'll need serious therapy to heal from his inconsistencies and lengthy absences. He looks and sounds sort of mentally challenged or on some kind of substance that has altered his ability to comprehend, in my opinion. I hope he and his daughters can have a consistent relationship, and that they'll be able to grow stronger as a family unit. Hopefully, he'll own up to his shortcomings and ask for forgiveness instead of blaming their mother. Big shout out and kudos to their mom.

Honestly the mom is amazing to even be doing some of the work he's suppose to be doing, keeping them in contact, traveling so they can see him, she shouldn't have to do any of that but she did. There's too many stories like this where the men think that not only should the moms be responsible for his communication with his children, but to paint him in a positive light when he isn't around and that's simply not fair to do especially when their actions prove otherwise. Some people need to really grow up

I've never been a "single parent" & with 2 people it's very expensive & time consuming to take care of children. I can't imagine doing all of it by myself. I say that because I don't like how the custodial parent has to be so accommodating to the person doing the bare minimum or NOTHING. Dad owes Mom 18 years of child support & him being in jail is no excuse. She was so desperate for him to see his kids, he got away paying NOTHING. And why would Mom be a bad person for talking about him. He was immature, wasn't a good father, & was constantly in jail. Mom had no obligation to make him look like a Saint to their kids. And hell yes I'm monitoring phone calls if Dad is calling from jail or prison. No child is gonna give out my personal info over a jail/prison line.

Dad is mentally and emotionally stunted clearly due to being in jail and whatever trauma he’s been through. You listen to the nonsense he spews about the mom who was not only there for her kids but his too and realise he’s just not ready to look in the mirror and call out the person he sees. He has to blame someone else because he doesn’t have the tools to be able to take accountability and still cope. Sad and disappointing.

I feel like I'm listening to my childhood. My father was incarcerated the majority of my life give or take a year up until I was 18. My bonding time with him was either at a halfway house or getting dressed up like I'm going to church to talk to him on a phone behind plexi glass. I reunited with him when I was 5 months pregnant at 18. And he picked me up and I stayed with him for a little while. When I got home within the next month. He expressed how disappointing it was to know his daughter was going to be a teen mom. I had snapped and I had a real coming to Jesus moment and gave all my pain and trauma to God and told him I will have what he wants me to have. He came when I had my daughter and we visited him and his new wife and step kids here and there and stayed with them from time to time since they lived about 4 hours away. My mom never discouraged me from having a bond with him, she knew how he was but she wanted me to have my own experience. I had to realize first hand that him and me will never be on the same page bc he was never given the tools to be a dad and he suffered his own trauma and also carried trauma from his mom and lack of father figure when he grew up. So it was repeating the toxic cycle of pain and hurt and trauma. I'm almost 30 and I still carry this and we haven't spoken in 5 years. Last year he sent me a request for gas money on cashapp. It hurt me and I got upset. Here again I thought I was over it I thought i released this pain. But truth is I don't think I will ever get over it bc he is my dad and I am apart of him and I carry that pain . The lack of his presence taught me a lot about people and I know people deserve 2nd ,3rd and 4th chances. Nobody is perfect. But what i struggle with is the little girl that was hurt and alone and afraid that didn't have that safety and security of her father. My mom could only do so much. She is my superhero. But like I would love to talk to Karamo about the steps to take to healing. Because this is almost 30 years in the making. This is my life and all I know. I'm sorry for this but I felt compelled to share this part of my story. I hope everyone is having a good evening and I hope everyone has a great week and stay safe. 🙏🏼❤

The truth for me, in as much as I blame the Dad, we cant just pretend like a man can focus on his kids squarely when he has bad relationship with their mom. He just mentioned DNA and every one is behaving like we all have not watched people train others kids in this show. I am not in anyway validating the father, but for you to get total healing it is beyond 15 minutes show. The accountability should not just be for show but from a genuine place. My 2-cents thought🙃

I think they saw these messages when they got older when they started asking questions. They mentioned before they got the moms side of the story but not the dads. When they asked for his side it didn't add up so I'm guessing the mom just showed them the messages to affirm her side. Which makes sense at this point with how the dad kept pushing the blame on the mom when she was the one trying for the kids and him to have a relationship.

I understand that Hayward wants to give us and especially back in the day everything. He said just time wasn’t enough. But honestly it is. It seems as though back then he was grinding and hustling for his kids, but he has a ton of mental issues that is not causing him to take accountability. Cause honestly 8 years is a long time.
