Understandable assessment. If the reform was genuine, it doesn't mean King Cold is going to suddenly become a loving flower child, however. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if his turn around to good was genuine, but because of the whole cunning and ruthless emperor bit, he'd simply using his existing skillset to different ends. A bit of both, really. Cell's made up of both a lot of monsters and a lot of heroes, and outside of ruthlessly pursuing his goals, his final form was fairly chill in general. He was even okay with being killed by Goku if it meant it'd be a massively climactic ending to his life. I wouldn't say that he genuinely wants to reform, but that he's simply letting his softer side come out for a while because he's not THAT bothered by having to shelve his petty side if that's what it takes to get out.

Basically Dodoria is responsizle for the death of Bardoc’s squad, so Bardoc is naturally pissed about It (or at least about Towa’s death) and we know that Bardoc in TFS was a horrible Father, who often forgot that he even had a son, in fact TWO of them. So Raditz dating Dodoria might be a middle finger towards Bardoc for being a horrible Father. PS. I know that movies and specials aren’t canon, but still.

I don't even think he is there for rehabilitation purposes. I think the point of HFIL is to push buttons until anger turns someone into a powerful beast of an ego. Why else would Raditz still be there (save for Dodoria) Out of the lot he is the most pragmatic, humble, and chill.

But Cold may also just keep people he deems as threats/not useful in the HFILs. Freeza hasn't changed while in HFIL while Cell was quick to adapt and is a proven problem solver. IDK what Cold has in mind (other than the stated goal), but if theres someone so powerful even Cold obeys, I want to know who.

I actually have no idea what his goal is here. He oversees "the other HFILs" (I assume movie villains??) and seems to follow the rules unlike Frieza. I like the idea of him being more calm and collected than Frieza and not throwing tantrums. (Side note, makes me genuinely sad we never got to see much of him in DBZ.) He sounded genuine towards the end, but also forboding. He's as much reformed as post-Super Frieza is, anime-wise. Still villainous, but calmer and methodical about it, rather than throwing his weight around and openly antagonizing people. Enough modicum of "good" that he begrudgingly respects the Saiyans, does not press his luck, and is more content to play the long game. Honestly, I personally find Frieza circa Broly is a good example of a villain undergoing character development without changing the fact that he's unrepentantly evil. He's set his sights on more practical goals and forgoes needless puppy kicking.

That's something that I feel gets missed a lot in discussions about power in the dbz franchise. Even if a person is weaker than another fighter, they can be much more of a threat depending on how smart they are. If they're really clever like king cold, they can destroy much stronger enemies without even lifting a finger. And then on the other side you have kid buu who is weaker than the other forms of buu but is absolutely feral and unpredictable, so he ends up being even worse of a threat than the other forms because he's just batshit.

I absolutely love the details they put in Raditz's room! The symbol of the Saiyan Kingdom on the wall, the cubby with his busted armor, the BOARD! I laughed out loud when I saw that he had no idea where Nappa was. Also, look at Dodoria's photo on the board. It looks like she's blowing a kiss to the camera. More hints to a secret relationship? So much love in this series, and I can't get enough!

Rewatching this twice and I feel like King Cold’s speech of “Getting everyone out” sounds more malicious than noble. I can understand that he’s more strategic with his view of Hell (unlike frieza) and is probably “playing along” since he knows it’s his best bet to escape. Not only by himself but his son, crew, and extremely strong potential Allies.

Why stop for one when you can also note he layed his other goal out with clever misdirection. He set Frieza up to gun for Cell in the long game, a strategy he notoriously lacks at this point in his impulsive attempt to achieve supremacy and stand alone st the top. An easy target. King Cold is giving Frieza a test by either ensuring he learns a valuable lesson or he gains a more valuable ally in Cell.
