Nice Video, and having friends (ret'd military buddies) who's kids (and some grand kids now ) are currently serving, i have to say it is a totally different army from when I served. Sports afternoon is unchanged, and arguably neither is the training or duties every day. However Friday afternoons and Monday mornings (WTF)? 08:30 every Monday was either the OC's or CO's working parade. Every other Friday was CO' s PT session (regimental run), and the other Fridays were the OC's (x country, or Battle run / Combat fitness test / Battle fitness test). Even if you were going on leave for a couple of weeks don't bank on getting away prior to 16:30 hours. That said the drinking was a lot more relaxed then (we were likely the best functioning alcoholics in the world), with Troop / Platoon bars, Sqn / Company Bars plus the Naffi and every bar down town, (and a great deal more). It wasn't a job, nor a career, it was a way of life, and I loved every minute (although maybe not always at the time) You have never been cold, wet, tired, hungry and Pissed off, until you have been British Army cold, wet, tired, hungry and pissed off!) Very best years of my life!

Me: "I don't mind so long as I am on base all the time", RAF: "Well you could be asked to pick up a gun and back up an army patrol", Me: "Well I don't think I'll be doing that", whole thing has changed now, so good to see young ROI in the army and not have to worry about stuff any more.................Good vid......................Blessings..................Slan.................

Every morning in the Scots guards when in barracks we had a roll call or muster parade usually taken by the sergeant in waiting or corporal in waiting, just checking who was on parade, who was away on courses etc and sometimes the CSM would make an announcement about upcoming events. Very rarely would an officer be on parade. After muster we split off in platoons where we did our own PT first thing then a shower and go onto platoon training or vehicle maintenance. Wednesday afternoons were always for sports. The platoon commander sometimes devised a training programme if we were going on exercise, first aid, map reading, gunnery training on a desk top trainer etc. You never got bored in battalion because there was always something going on. After work hours it was up to you what you did, some lads did extra phys some went drinking it was up to you as long as you turned up on parade the next day. It was up to you to read company orders outside the company office after tea, things like courses, barrack guards, promotions etc. Sometimes on a Friday afternoon after duties you could go home for the weekend. 😊
