If you get your cabin to 49C sometimes and burn through 4 pellet logs I'm convinced you're over-using them. Cut them in half or even thirds and burn them more evenly instead of chucking in one entire log each time. Will make for way less fluctuation and wasted heat!

It’s just because it’s not a “hardwood” log. They burn quicker being they are only comprised of wood chips. Ideally he would of had an actual log to burn over night to supplement it.

Your video's are so awesome. You seem very centered whilst realizing the valuable basics of life. Personally, I'm all over the place, being a chaotic scatterbrain 24/7. Your video's actually really help to calm me down and being a little more hunble. Everything in life is being taking for granded on a great scale. Whether it's about a washingmachine or something basic as food. The fact you can be genuinely happy about getting something sweet and something like a loaf of bread really goes to show we should be very happy with how rich most of us actually are. From a couple of your other videos it was made very clear to me it's not as easy to actually make money on growing your own food. There are many things to say about big companies who rule the food market, but lets just be honest; it's not all bad when taking everything in consideration. Like many others have said before me: thank you for your videos, the positive vibes and just being humle. In case you ever want to visit The Netherlands (specifically the east (somewhat rural) side) and looking for a place; you are a person i would definitely trust with a spare key. Stay awesome, you're pretty much on top of the world in my humble opinion.

Oh and by the way, if you put all the pots on the stove filled with water, they will heat up and radiate the heat back out slowly. That'll help regulate the temperature and you'll use less fuel too 👍

Such a beautiful place! I find it super interesting that they have pressed sawdust logs for you to burn, rather than wood logs. here in Canada we can buy those as "Presto Logs'. But here at the cabin, we just burn wood...and our garbage. lol! We have our woodsheds full of nice dry firewood for the winter. Our woodstove is not nearly as pretty as yours. Ours is one my husband built out an old oil barrel. You can purchase a kit that has a cast iron door, legs and chimney flue with a damper in it to build them. You cut the hole in the top of the barrel to put the door in (which then becomes the front of the stove) A hole for the flue, screw on the legs, add your chimney, install it in your cabin and you have a stove! We have had a few different ones, but these barrel stoves are wonderful because you can use very long wood. You can stock it up with 2 or 3 pieces of 2 1/2 foot long logs and it will burn all night. Very nice waking up to -30 C and it still being warm in the cabin. I am really loving your experiences at this little hut! I love the animals in the little barn next door too. I started watching your channel as you tried out car camping, as it is something I also tried this past summer. Now I'm hooked just 'cause you do such wonderful videos on interesting topics! I'm looking forward to seeing how you make your spruce syrup! -Sue

Hi Alex, if you don’t have a coffee press you can make the coffee in a pot and filter it by cracking an egg into it. The egg will act as a filter and collect all the coffee grinds. It works and is a fun backwoods trick. I’m pretty sure it’s called a Norwegian or Scandinavian coffee depending on who you ask. Hope it helps you not just now but in the future too ☕️😊

I just love your videos! Found your channel this last weekend and have binged quite a few. Spending time in nature by yourself is very healing. We live in the USA and live in a small city but also have some acreage in New Mexico off the beaten track ( or actual roads! ) with a little cabin. We love to spend time there but I find that 6 weeks is my limit.

I relate so mutch to you Alex. I have a Cabin in Norway in the middel of nowhere , i always love the times I can just spend the days tending the fire, painting, and observing the view. It’s sometimes a necessary break from reality, but I do bring the family dog.

Alex we call that "cowboy coffee" here in the west USA. Made it many times camping. Here is the trick. You can add your coffee grounds to either the pot and boil it or pour boiling water over the grounds like you are doing. If you spritz cold water on the top of whatever container you use that has the ground coffee and hot water it will cause the grounds to immediately sink to the bottom and you can pour off the clear coffee or sip as you are doing. I just dunk my fingers into some cold water and flick it on top of the hot coffee until all of the grounds are at the bottom. Works great.

That's why you use heatstoring fireplace(stone or brick) where is winter, our cabin(it has a 3 room+kitchen) needs only heating every 1 or 3 day at , depends how low the temp go.. at -30c it needs to get heated every day, -5c every 3 days is more than enough.

Hi Alex, I love watching your everyday life in these magical places. I wonder how you find such wonderful accommodations. Recently, a chimney sweep told me that a very practical way to light a fire in the chimney is to start by installing the big wood, then finish with the small wood and the fire lighter.... upside down somehow. I admit that it works very well. But my fireplace is bigger than this wood stove in your cottage. Magical also to see that there is a dense animal life during the night....

thats how life should be! i have a mate on kangaroo island who lives a similar life,pot of water on the fire,lots of reading and walks,enjoying the local produce, he lived with out electricty from 1984 till 2004 then he got a girlfriend and she wanted tv and a fridge :D

Lovely.........if you want to filter your coffee then you can try using two sheets of kitchen towel if you have any and form them into a small cone, they are strong and should not fall apart. The only downside is that you use a lot of them.

Man, I feel you when you hit your head in the barn. I'm 6'2" and a amateur strongman who trains in a garage gym 4 days a week. There's 2 wooden beams that run across the garage and I'm taller than the door frame, so I hit my head multiple times during training and then always when I leave. If I had £1 for every time I've hit my head I could own my own commercial gym lol. Really enjoyed this series, beautiful scenery and a quaint little cabin, must be good for the soul.
