It is indeed painful to come to terms with the fact that a wig will give you confidence, and at first it can be uncomfortable and itchy, but I soon got used to it ❤ I know this was from ages ago, so I hope you’re doing well 😊

I have just started to study wigs and bought my first two. No one would ever guess a perky, cheerful, talented woman like you ever came from a disfunctional family. I do also and I understand being so alone during childhood. The abuse has affected my hair too. Now with being over 65 and with illness and drugs, clippies just don't do it. Thank you so much for sharing. I have learned so much from all of your videos. Please take care of yourself. You have a beautiful soul.

Your hair loss problem is real...many women and teens go through what you are/have gone through. It's hair loss...period...the same as alopecia or any other type of hair loss! @@DawnStamper I'm not sure if you have any problems with keeping your wigs on because you have quite a bit of bio hair..but I have about as much as Patti from Patti's Pearls...almost twins in that area😡😱. I don't have a prominent occipital bone and my wigs creep up...a video about different ways to deal with these issues would be great. It stays was ok plastered all over my head in the winter... but this 1st summer wearing a wig was really challenging...thanks so much for answering and asking. Praying for you as always ❤💋

I love Godivas Secret Wigs and Pattis Pearls. I learned so much from them and my first GOOD wig came from GS. Starting to wear wigs was a process and not easy for me. But, after I got there I was addicted. I have worn them since Nov. 2016. I used Toppix too for several years. HARD! Thx for your story. I saw you take 10 years off your age, just now. You are so pretty! Please don’t cry or I will too. I relate.

Thank you for sharing your story. I relate so much to feeling like I have lost myself and not recognizing the person I've become. I have spent the last 15 years trying to hide and disguise my hair loss. I too could hear the catty whispered comments of my colleagues. My wig journey is just beginning. I too have spent days dying to get home in order to receive a delivery of new wigs. I'm still trying to find myself in them. So far I have only ventured out once in my new hair but eventually I hope to have the confidence to wear a wig out of the house every day. Hearing stories from people like you helps me feel less alone and ashamed. Thank you again for sharing your story. You are amazing.

Hi Rebecca, I completely know what you mean when you say you're trying to find your self in a wig - I STILL have to work to see me in some of them too... The root can be so dark, I can't see past it and my brain just won't let my eyes believe it could be real - it takes a bit of mental conditioning for me, if you will...

(Ayyy girl I’m watching this from the future hehehe) I’m so glad you have come around now (err at least I hope you have!) to the fact that ANY hair loss is “legitimate” hair loss! First of all, trichotillomania is just as REAL as any other illness, And secondly, even if you had no illness, no “hair LOSS” and simply had thin hair or a texture that was hard to manage and you decided you wanted to wig it, that is a legitimate reason to do so! You’re absolutely right to compare it to makeup (or clothes-- dressing for how you want to feel!). The only message I question from this video is the talk about ‘always working with a mirror in front of you to make sure the wig is perfect--‘ this sounds pretty unhealthy to me. Worrying about any part of your appearance that much can become compulsive - I hope you’ve long since given that up!! Xxo 💙 glad you are back to the world of the living (and to making video)

I can't see myself at all in the job I have now... OCD is in the same family as Trichotillomania so that is another thing I try to manage with positive self talk - I have many years under my belt now but have to put the work in daily... So good of you to watch my story and comment... I truly appreciate it 🥳

How refreshing to hear someone be so honest and forthcoming. I am 76 years old and wear wigs also. I have always had baby fine, thin hair and I know the loss of self esteem it brings. My lack of hair has always been how I defined myself and believe you me, it hasn't been a good self image! UNTIL, I started wearing wigs! It has changed my life forever! Everyone on Facebook knows I wear wigs, I have made no secret about it, because anyone who really knows me, knows that I have to be wearing a wig. The Facebook friends keep telling me how I never age, but it's the wigs that keep me young! So eternally grateful for the talented people that can create something that can be a beautiful extension of our own true self. I think your video is, by far, the best testimony of how you started wearing wigs. It is hard when you delve into an arena that is symbolic of something only people going thru chemo using. You just proved that there are many reasons for wanting or needing to wear a wig. Heck, it's just an accessory, so in my thinking, everyone should have at least one wig for those bad hair days, and that's something we ALL have in common! Love you, sweet child! So glad I found your Channel.

I am soooo sorry to hear not only about your fall and broken elbow but about what you had to have gone through losing your hair. That is so devastating for any women. My hair is very thin as I have gotten older, seems like the horror came over night as soon as I turned 68 yrs, old. So now I am having to wear wigs. You have a very beautiful and sweet face like Taz on Taz wigs she has the same illness as you and lost her hair too. You both look gorgeous in any wig you put on your head. Most of us are not blessed in looking so gorgeous in most wigs. Buying wigs is a very difficult on line and expensive for most of us. Thank you for sharing this and since you did this video in 2019 and its now 2022 I know your elbow has well healed. Stay safe and well.

@@DawnStamper I haven't worn long hair since I was 15, and I've always worn pixie styles....some longer versions, and some shorter versions. My husband of 50 yrs. has always preferred short hair. I've always kept it that way, and it's what suits me best anyway. My first PY was Geneva because it was most like my bio hair style before I lost so much. They say when you try your first wig you should find a style and colour similar to what you had, which is great advice. When I put my short little Geneva on it still seemed like SO much hair!! Got used to it fast though! Now I like the slightly longer Janine (my favorite so far of my PY's), Victoria and Lauren...but all still pixie's. I've seen some of the ladies on the facebook private groups wear some of the mid-length, and long ones, and they are lovely, and very affordable. Not all the styles they carry are shown in the sales catalogue. Jaclyn Smith has some very cute styles shown in the PY magazine too. ~~Mavis~~

Love your story and your attitude. When a wig looked better than my hair, it was time. Wish I would have done it sooner. I realized the first day I wore it to work no one cares about YOUR hair. Yes, they may ask a question and say it looks good, but that's it. They care about their own hair, not yours. When I'm complimented on my hair I usually say it"s a wig so she knows she can have nice hair too, it"s not a secret. The best part is the time and money I save wearing a wig. Always a good hair day!

Thank you for your honesty. I’ve been devastated lately with my hair loss. I’m depressed, sad, angry, feeling sorry for myself and pretty much stay by myself. I know my loss is only going to get worse and I need to come to terms with it but my hair sister’s on KZbin, are the only ones I feel know my pain. My loss is from a ton of auto-immune issues. I’m trying everything I thing I can to stop it, Rogaine and diet. I went on the AIP diet and writing this today, I found myself in the ER yesterday with Diverticulitis. Trying to get healthy and get my hair back is causing me a ton of other issues. The Rogaine makes my scalp itch and gives me headaches but I keep doing it. Your video gives me the courage to just stop all this madness and come to terms with just wearing wigs. I really wish the Kardashian’s would do a big promotion with wigs that would make it a huge popular thing to wear them, to help people like us. Again, thank you for your honesty and this really helped me today. ❤️

I finally started wearing wigs when I lost even more hair from my infusion treatments. People accepted it because they knew I was in oncology for 10hrs every month. @@Sssssssslf I understand the difference and that it might be important for others to understand the difference between a disease and a disorder, but, it makes it no less difficult to deal with. Mental disorders are some of the most difficult health problems to deal with, this is coming from someone with 4 autoimmune diseases - 1 neurological, Ehlers Danlos and Muscular Dystrophy type CMT2. I don't think we need to split hairs on disease or disorder. Dawn understood me just fine. Keep yourself healthy and safe from Coronavirus.

Taz was so helpful to me when I first started wearing wigs. I'm extremely grateful to her. I get compliments on my hair, now that I wear wigs. I smile and say Thank you. Now, I have two wig channels to watch. Iv watched other channels and when I asked a question & no answer after a month I unsubscribe. If woman want you to watch their channel and don't answer questions, I figure what's the point? I love wigs. If I have to run out & don't have time I put on a wig, sunglasses lipstick and a cute outfit and you look put together. I'm glad I found you're channel. Have an amazing day!

I could identify with you. I mourned when I lost my hair. I felt extremely uncomfortable when people started talking hair. It felt like I was lying when I was complimented on my hair and I said nothing about the wig. And then one day.... Everything shifted. There was an almost holy moment, when I realised that I am not defined by my hair. And besides, now I can wear which ever style I want. I can wear the hair that I always wanted. I started to feel grateful for the people who make wigs. And my life changed. I decided to make this an adventure, and enjoy the new colours and styles. I have never received so many compliments. Because now I wear my wigs. Before this my wigs were wearing me! I feared people might notice. But they never did. And now I am free. Because I don't care any longer. And I love my wigs. And with that I discovered a new self confidence. You are beautiful. Consider yourself hugged for sharing. Love from South Africa.

I can't believe I've found this. Finally, someone who's like me. I subscribed to your channel a couple of weeks ago, Dawn, when your Jamilla Plus video popped up on my recommended list. Honestly, I've watched a tonne of videos about wigs and hair loss, from multiple KZbinrs, (who I really enjoy) but that video of yours just struck me. Although I didn't know at the time you had Trich, I just felt you were different from everybody else .. so REAL (and a bit of a character too, just quietly lol). And, I thought it was rather fabulous! And, then I begin to watch this one today, only to find out you have Trichotillomania! Finally, I have found another real, live human being who understands. Yes, I can relate to so much of your experience. Although, in saying that, to be completely transparent, my hair loss is caused by a combination of a couple of physiological skin conditions, an auto immune condition and elements of Trich thrown in, for good measure lol . So, i guess I'm still a bit of an anomaly, but I'm now one step closer to feeling less like the odd man out, after this video. I've been dealing with my hair loss issue for three years now. Looking back, it all just started off as another relatively minor health problem, but rapidly snowballed into something I was not expecting. Ah, but that's life, isn't it, eh? Well, I'm just SO surprised at finding this video of yours, and feeling a bit flabbergasted too! But, in a good way. Haha! I most certainly will be keeping an eye out for your content, and watching more. Sending a HUGE hug, Dawn. Thank you for this video. You've helped me so much already xox

I just have fine thinning hair that I believe is genetics because my mom is that way. However, I felt so connected hearing you share your story. Especially when you patted your chest and you said "you're not fine". I can so relate! I wore wigs for a short period of time in 2000, then I stopped. Then I started again in 2015 and stopped shortly afterwards. In December 2020 I decided I've had enough. So much going on in my life, and my heart, I decided I was sick of it! I still struggle internally with other things but I know I'm happy with my hair, and that helps. Anyway, if you happen to read this, I really wish you would consider coming back on you tube. Oh my, Dawn. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. What a precious, beautiful woman you are and so very much like me. I’m so glad I found you. While I do not have trichotillomania, I have never had good hair except for when I was a teenager and had long, straight lovely blonde hair. Why didn’t we appreciate these things when we had them. I was so insecure. I was able to grow it down past my nipples 🤫 LOL but it was still very thin and once I got into my 20s I desperately wanted different hair. Full, thick and wavy. I won’t go into the whole story, but it is VERY similar to yours trying to introduce a new persona into the public. My first wig was also from Godiva 🤣🤣🤣 Now I could care less. It’s SO MUCH FUN! And it’s especially fun watching wig reviews and discovering precious and courageous women, like yourself, who get it and who are so like minded. Thank you for your transparency, beautiful sister. 🥰

Dawn your heartfelt Journey is very very touching! Your story has probably touched so many people in your situation or just the thought of even losing hair I'm sure is so helpful and comforting to know that there are many people out there that are going through similar situations! And I'm sorry to hear about your accident with your elbow. Hope and pray for a quick recovery.😀

Dawn, I just now ran across your videos and I absolutely love your first wig. I can' believe how good the condition looks still. Not to mention it looks beautiful on you. I'm just now experiencing hair loss and I'm absolutely devastated at how old it makes me look. I'm encouraged! I'm 72 but I still love beauty and took a lot of pride in making myself look good. Wigs DO take age off me. Thank you! God Bless!

@@DawnStamper yes it is. I have white hair and I had dark brown chunky lowlights put in the top/bang and sides. Expensive! Can't do it now due to the hairloss. Don't know if I'm going o get all my hair back or not...some has come back.. I haven't found a wig yet to match that coloring but I'm going to try to get brave with some other colors. Again, thank you so much for sharing your story. I just ordered one you reviewed for us, Make Waves in the F8/60 ... hope I like it. 🥰

I so admire your courage to share your history with us! You look beautiful in your very first wig!! You came up on my feed yesterday - the video you made in the doggy park 💖. Your wee 🐕 is so stinkin' cute! Anyhow, I so enjoyed you! Now I'm a new subbie catching up on your channel. Presently in my late sixties, my hair has thinned enough in the past 24 years to spur me to learn everything I can about wigs🧓. While it's always been baby fine, my hair was thick enough to even require thinning in my young years! Hard to believe now!! Thanks so much for inspiring and encouraging me! Be blessed this day, -Susan💖

Godiva's Secret Wigs packages their wig that way because they buy Noriko wigs, rename them and call them their own and shipping them in the Noriko box would be a dead giveaway. It's cheaper to buy them from other outlets as GSW jacks up the prices. It's called white labeling. I wish they were honest and up front about their practices. I've stored some of my pieces in plastic bags and they develop a funky odor. Now I store them in the boxes. xoxo Joan

You are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your story. I am going to be 74 in August And started wearing wigs A few months ago. I feel more attractive then I did my entire life. No more bad hair days. If I have one I just try a different wig. I have COPD and use oxygen 24/7. But I do not want to look like I feel so wigs and makeup are a daily must. I even keep one packed in my hospital “to go” tote. Lol. Looking forward to seeing you more. PS. I do have Paula Young wigs. 😉

I too have suffered from trickitilloma since the age of 12. My mom took me to the doctor and he said it was because I was ugly and fat. He advised I needed to get a new haircut and lose 20#. I was 12 and had boobs and the other girls made fun of me. I was bullied. I was ashamed of my 38/28/38 figure. This was in 1963 and then the style was thin body and beautiful hair. So I begin my friendship with trick. I could hide it with hair pieces and chignons until I was 28 and had to buy a wig at Kmart and Sears. Then I found Paula Young Wigs and contrary to belief all her wigs aren't for old ladies. I have bought wigs from her for 38 years!!!. It is nice to find another person with trickitilloma but I am so sorry you too suffer from it. I am glad you are getting better. God Bless.

What an inspiring story of not only survival but one of achievement! I just started wearing wigs this year. I clicked on one of your videos about a wig from the Wig Company. It was really cute and so affordable! So, when I saw this video I thought you might have more affordable tips. Wow, I learned so much more. BTW, you still look beautiful in your first wig. - - and I did learn about an affordable tip. I had never heard of the white labels. God bless you for sharing your wig journey.
